Supremo Comandante CSAD
General del Aire Carlos - FAP

Mission accomplished, camaradas. Scratch one BSA and one Scud launcher.
Now it's time to give the PLAAF some attention.

Next mission on the 14th, Wednesday.
The PLAAF airbase at Ushuaia is the main objective. Hit it hard. Put those J-11s out of action.

If conditions are favorable, do also engage the ground forces at the city's outskirts and/or their airbase Puerto Williams.

Seabees deployed to Puerto Santa Cruz. They're now in the AO. However, the USMC F-18s have left the airport already to Rio Gallegos. If ground commander wants to repair Punta Arenas Airbase, these seabees will accelerate the process.

Task: a flight to move Seabees from Puerto Santa Cruz to Punta Arenas, and that will open up one of the runways fully upon completion.

Update for CSAD:

Intel:

1. Special Reconaissance update on S-300 and DSA:
---UPDATE: The S-300 site at Porvenir Airfield has not emitted from Porvenir since your attack. Equipment has relocated with indications of radar checkout or repair activity IVO Tolhuin.
---UPDATE: 1x CSS-7 launcher was destroyed by good fortune during the attack on the DSA. It has temporarily arrived for repair and was caught in the attack. The remaining Smerch, Uragan, and CSS-7 units remain unlocated, or when they are located, they are spotted in temporary hide sights, on the move, etc. PLA Rocket Forces are maintaining their passive defense discipline and are a difficult target to identify.

2. No Change: The Liaoning carrier battle group is located. Flight schedule seems to favor daytime operations. Like our carriers, they can only support about 12 hours of flying per day, likely less. They are currently on a daylight fly rotation, with a portion of their air wing operating from Stanley to allow them to take full fuel and heavy ordnance while the carrier-craft remain on fleet defense. It has significant escorts, to include big-wing ASW, ISR, and some AEW&C from Port Stanley.

Ops:
1. The SF team conducting special reconnaissance will attempt to relocate; the PLA DSA is relocating or dispersing into a less centralized location. More to follow after they relocate and assume new tasking.

2. On the night prior to the planned CSAD aerial attack on Ushaia, USSTRATCOM and USSOUTHCOM will execute an operation to strike targets the night prior to flight:

--Destruction of an EWR and any associated SAM coverage on the island of Islote Tres Mogotes. This small rocky island has a small EWR site and radio support established by the PLA and has a commanding view along the waterway between itself and Isla Wickham and Dawson. (on the google map)
--Destruction of an EWR 55 km northwest of Rio Grande, providing early warning over the water and northern TdF (not on google maps). This is to degrade early warning as well as a distraction from the primary mission to destroy the EWR on Islote Tres Mogotes.
--Temporarily disable commercial power distribution to Rio Grande
--Disable 1x Type 54A in the Beagle channel vicinity of Ushuaia. The U.S. has had a lot of time to develop the target and is confident that it can mission-kill (not sink) a Type 54A that has been providing air defense and maritime patrol around Ushuaia. Once complete, the Type 54A will have no air defense capability until repaired, save deck-based guns, potentially CIWS, and potentially deck-based MANPADS.

This should help blind and redirect PLA efforts away from the air avenues of approach toward Ushuaia. There has been sporadic SIGINT of SA-8s and radio comms from small units along the flight route, but otherwise no significant SAMs covering the route at low altitude. Cannot vouch for items such as MANPADS, cannon, MG, etc.

Good afternoon, gentlegoons. This is your recently promoted flight lead, R. Dario Banderas C., son of acclaimed and blooded FAE pilot Raúl Banderas D., who also flew the Mirage F1.

The Plan
Waypoints subject to whims of mission maker. Remember to reconfirm on the cockpit before takeoff or during cruise.

Fly to PLATE to avoid going to near enemy positions. Form up with other flights at EVITA. Descend and cross over SCDW. Maintain 2~3nm from shore on ingress to CSS: PLAGF BSA, and no greater than 150ft altitude. Use your navigation computer, increase altitude if needed for drop parameters shortly after making landfall. Right hand turn to egress nap-o-the-earth to SCDW. After SCDW increase altitude as desired. Avoid nearing enemy lines as you RTB.

If a sudden delay is required, pull back and orbit SCDW on the deck, or EVITA at altitude.

Do not proceed to stretch goal of 16th CSS BN 7th BDE unless approved.

Admiral Ileana Maria Sampaio
South American Combined Armada

Naval Fleet & Aviation Orders: Operation Bushwack, 14 APR 2010

Our recent operations have picked up the pace and delivered a rapid series of blows against the PLA. While we have suffered numerous casualties during this offensive, it has also put significant pressure on the enemy forces as they attempt to hold Tierra del Fuego and the Islas Malvinas. Having knocked out Porvenir Airfield and its significant aerial defenses, as well as a central supply area near Cruce Onaissin, we are now moving on to striking against the heart of the Chinese air forces in Ushuaia. While our fighter aircraft duel it out with the PLAAF near WP Mary, the rest of our strike forces will divert around and attack the major airbase (Ushuaia International Airport - SAWH). Simultaneously, our naval forces will begin applying further pressure against the PLA with a series of land bombardments and submarine actions. Together we will push back the invaders, and retake our home.

AO Cartridge (Tierra del Fuego):

The Air Force has assembled a carefully-considered lightning strike against Ushuaia Airport and its major facilities and defenses. Devil and Dodge will depart Punta Arenas Airport and perform CAP duties south of WP Mary. Your role will be to distract the PLAAF while the strike package sneaks in, as well as destroy any CAP forces that they can scramble. Meanwhile, an Air Force group led by Rattler will make their way down to the assembly point and lead the way through the fjords. They will be joined by Ford's A-4 Skyhawks (which will have air tanking support in this operation) as well as Enfield's Harriers (which have finally been ordered to leave their FARP and rebase to the recently retaken Almirante Schroeder Airport, on Isla Dawson. Their jump jet capabilities will be quite useful for an airfield that is still regaining its capabilities after occupation by the Chinese forces. The combined group of aircraft will follow a path through the fjords and then attack Ushuaia.

The city is home to a variety of important targets and defenses. The American military is committing a strike package to this operation that will be timed to disable several of their defenses, including several Early Warning Radars, a power generation facility, and a Type 054A frigate in the harbor area. However, it will take decisive action on our part to ensure that the runway is disabled before the J-11 fighters can be scrambled, and to contend with any other air defenses in the area. Splitting up the target area and establishing priorities will be crucial to our success. Once the airport has been disabled, our aircraft can then return home to our airbases.

AO Bolt (Patagonian Fjords):

While Operation Bushwack is underway, our surface naval forces will begin engaging with the remains of the PLA forces near Porvenir Airfield and Caleta Rosario. While we don't have the modern precision-fire capabilities of Tomahawk cruise missiles, these older vessels retain the larger cannons of yesteryear. The American SAG of Oliver Hazard Perry's, as well as the Chilean fleet of Condell and Leander frigates, have a significant shore bombardment capability with their 76 mm and 113 mm rapid-fire medium-calibre naval guns. With an effective range of approximately 8 km, and a maximum range of 16-20 km, this combined fleet can devastate coastal forces and force the survivors to flee.

AO Stone (Argentine Sea):

The arrival of the Ecuadorian submarine BAE Shyri, under the commander of her new captain codenamed Magisterium, heralds a new offensive here in the shallow Argentine Sea. The Argentine special forces aboard the Shyri transfer to the ARA San Juan, having completed their classified mission during the transit. They are surely glad to be back aboard one of their vessels. Now each of the submarines in AO Stone have their targets: The Brazilian Tupi will sail to the 3rd PLAN Fleet and target the frigates that have been escorting Chinese shipping. These forces previously sunk one of our vessels, and it's time to get our revenge. The Argentine ARA San Juan will attack the DDG Hangzhou, which is the large flagship of the 1st PLAN Fleet. This cruiser-sized vessel has terrorized the citizens of Rio Gallegos with an indiscriminate bombardment, and it's time to put this monster down. Finally, the BAE Shyri will seek out the Ropucha landing ships that previously delivered the PLA invasion force. Several of them have been operating in two groups, each escorted by a pair of Type 054A frigates. Recon these SAGs and find an opportunity to sink some of these ships to limit their transport capability.

Fly nap-of-the-earth along the fjords to the target at 350~355kias for best fuel economy. UZI Brief.

Currently 2-ship, conducting strike at Ushuaia Airport.
Priority targets: Rockets and guns vs aircraft on ground. Bomb runway, buildings, etc to taste. Primary runway destroyers are Mirage 2000s and Mirage F1s, so this should be handled, but sling bombs wherever you see valid military targets on the airfield. If in doubt, add more holes in runways/tarmacs.

Loadout: 2x big bags, 2x rocket pods, bombs to taste, heaters and guns.

Take off, climb to alt to Mary (10-15k), don't burn beyond takeoff. Descend into fjords and follow leader, aim for 300 knots to match A-4 speed (and this is all you got loaded this heavy without burner).

Limit yourself to 1-2 passes on objective, and GTFO. Expect enemy to scramble to man MGs, MANPADS, and other things that could either shoot you down outright or putt a hole in your fuel tank. Ditching pylons and center racks authorized, which should make return flight at Mach .9 work fine without burner. Upon RTB, climb at Isla Dawson tot make better time/fuel to Punta Arenas.

So, todays mission promises to be an interesting one, bombing Ushuaia airports runways by sneaking to them trough fjords.

Loadout
2x MAGIC II, 16x BAP-100, Wing external tanks

Waypoints
WP1: SCCI
WP2: MARY
WP3: CUTTR 15mi NWN offset
WP4: Ushuaia runway 34 (BRAVO)
WP5: CUTTR
WP6 :MARY
WP7: SCCI

Flightplan
Take off from SCCI, proceed to WP2, no need to climb high.
From WP2 proceed to WP3 at sea level, max 1000ft, just follow the leader.
At WP3 turn into fjord ont the right, and imediately turn left into a valley, whic leads directly to western side of Ushuaia, approach WP4 directly from south to best approach to bomb the runway.
Dump BAP-100s into runway 34 (BRAVO).
Continue over Ushuaia into a valley straigth ahead, turn left into an NWN directional valley, stay in there as long as it goes, proceed to WP5.
From there continue at sea level to WP6.
From there return to WP7 and land, altitude free.

Camaradas comandantes, we're about to start the first major step towards entering Tierra del Fuego.
In the coming hours, we're about to deal a major blow to the PLAAF so we can start a major amphibious landing on the island.
We can't afford to waste any time, so start drawing plans for an amphibious operation ASAP. We are not to sit still while our pilots are risking their lives so start immediately and get those plans on my table until (IRL: Monday May 20th 0000 GMT).

Some 30 minutes later...

First let me start off with some great news.
Brazilian Air Force's Bradador Project has been successful. We're going to have some Phantoms supporting us in the coming weeks.

Negostrike posted:

We accept this invitation and the Brazilian Air Force is willing to send personnel to the US to get familiar with the Phantoms. The FAB is creating a new squadron based in Canoas, the 2nd Squadron/14th Group. They're going to name it the Bradador Squadron, named after some screaming ghost from their folklore.

FAB volunteers from all over the country will depart from SBGL on a chartered flight to MPTO then to Holloman AFB for training. So expect some of those big boys assisting us in the coming days.

Camaradas, this is our riskiest operation so far. The stakes are incredibly high, so is the payoff when we put their Ushuaia airbase out of action.
Best of luck to you, brave pilots. Exercise extreme caution.

Initiated patrol by moving at creep into position in deeper waters, to permit intercept of hostile shipping while reducing chances of detection by hostile ASW assets.

Rose to periscope depth to raise ESM mast and detect emissions. Two Airborne signatures identified using Surface-Search Radar “Teardrop”, classified as KA-28 Helicopters. Expected in line with intelligence briefs on presence of hostile Escort forces.

Continued on course, intermittently raising ESM mast. Presence of hostile Escort vessel detected, intelligence and detected emissions indicate Type 054 Class.

Sub-surface contact, classified GOBLIN #11 detected on Passive Sonar. Initially classified as potential hostile, further analysis of velocity and acoustic emissions lead to decision that contact is likely Biologic.

ESM mast raised. Emissions from two type 054 class vessels confirmed, decision made to approach to locate target vessels.

Distance reduced to approximately 6.5nm with southernmost Type 054, designated Hotel 1. Periscope and ESM mast raiser, confirm presence of Type 054, and Ropucha I Transport/LST vessels. ASW assets non-present, given known endurance and current time, return to Type 054 Escorts for refuel and rearmament considered probable. Second Type 054 located far north of transports, approx. 30nm, designated Hotel 2. Decision made to close and engage Hotel 1 to reduce ASW capabilities of local PLAN Escort assets, while placing Shyri into advantageous position for strike on PLAN Transports.

Closed to approximately 3nm with Hotel 1, engaging with single-volley of two SUT Mod 0 Torpedoes. Hotel 1 appears to have detected launch, and began closing with launch position at flank speeds. Shyri ordered to dive below layer, and move away from launch position at flank speeds.

Launch of ASROC Depth Charges detected from Hotel 1. Evasive manoeuvres initiated, and partially successful. Minor damage sustained to bow, no loss of critical systems. Damage control teams dispatched. Launch of torpedoes detected from Hotel 1 along bearing to initial launch position of torpedoes.

Wires cut as Shyri reaches flank speeds. Torpedoes begin active homing, impact detected shortly following. Hotel 1 identified as sunk following acoustic analysis. Lightweight torpedo launched by Hotel 1 detected, but fails to acquire Shyri.

Damage control teams report in, loss of single torpedo tube confirmed, with no further significant damage. Decision made to continue mission, Shyri moves to intercept PLAN Transports.

Distance closed with PLAN Transports. Identified as 4x Ropucha 1 Class LSTs, and 2x Tugboats. Volley of torpedoes launched at two Ropucha class vessels.

Emissions from KA-28 Helicopter, presumed launched from Hotel 2 detected. Decision made to continue to prosecute assault against remaining PLAN Transports.

Impact of first volley of Torpedoes detected, two Ropucha Class LSTs confirmed sunk. KA-28 maintaining position by Hotel 2. Preparations made for strike against remaining LSTs.

Torpedoes fired, maintaining wire guidance to avoid accidental targeting of lower-value tugboat targets. Remaining PLAN Transports begin evasive manoeuvres, minimal impact on accuracy expected.

All LSTs confirmed sunk. Remaining stores consist of 2x SUT Mod 0 Torpedoes, 24x Acoustic decoys. Decision made to return to deeper waters to evade any inbound ASW assets, as engagement of Hotel 2 judged inadvisable at current time.

Successfully disengaged, moving to deeper waters and monitoring situation. Request submitted for return to port for repair and rearmament.

Unrelated: The Death of Ferdinand Magellan, 1521

Magellan was a little bit of a kook. He thought he was invincible against the people who lived on the lands he visited. This hubris drove him to meet his death, outnumbered, at the hand of native peoples' stone weapons.

Again, this is completely unrelated to the game events in and around the Strait of Magellan presently.

I'm gonna say having the Type 54 offline and no SA-11s at Ushuaia was a big help. But otherwise, the mass of that many aircraft in one place to spread out AA fire among the whole group and cover one another plus (mostly) GTFO before the MANPADS spawn plus targeting pretty big, obvious targets that you can hit just a mile or two after breaking cover all worked well vs targeting dispersed and camouflaged groups on flat land under SA-11 coverage.

Also a huge help that now their CAP capability has been attritted to the point where they just aren't able to maintain 4-6 aircraft up in the air ready to meet us.

:siren: Critical Update :siren:

For CSAD awareness:
Indicators and Warnings indicate high likelihood of imminent cruise missile and drone attack. Targets are unknown, but it is likely that PLAN and PLAAF forces will strike back at air bases used recently to strike Ushuaia and Puerto Williams; it is also possible that they could strike ports that rearm and repair diesel submarines.

Surface Combatants have sortied out of Rio Grande and the Falklands, keeping a high rate of speed in a likely attempt to outrun submarines, since they have not been able to effectively find and sink subs. These DDGs are capable of collectively launching dozens of cruise missiles. These missiles will not be dynamically retargeted, so expect imminent attack on pre-planned targets, launched from 150+ NM off the east coast of Argentina.

H-6 bombers at the Falklands have been observed conducting ordnance handling. It is likely that any attack out of the Falklands from H-6s will be out of range of CSAD interceptors prior to weapons release. H-6s are likely to then leave the immediate theater and land elsewhere for survivability.

Merchant ships are observed loading PRC drones and conducting ground control station checkout. It is unclear if these drones are one-way attack or armed individually.

Intent may be to degrade CSAD sortie generation sufficiently to enable a graceful withdrawal or could signify that the PLA may dig in on TdF in an attempt to keep the Strait of Magellan contested and closed to civil and military traffic. Our assessment is that even with significant supply challenges, PLA forces could sit in place on TdF in prepared defenses for quite a long time, given limited options to flow major combat forces onto TdF and ongoing world-wide commitments for CSAD's partners.

The ODA which has been conducting clandestine reconnaissance in TdF is compromised and actively on the run, seeking urgent extract. After the strike on the DSA vic HWY 257 and Y-71, PLA forces began stopping civilian trucking and seizing vehicles to help move equipment and make up for lost military trucking. During such a stop, the ODA engaged the traffic control point troops, blowing their cover, and have been fleeing on a mix petroleum field roads and cross country toward an extract point. SUBJ/SITREP 17 MAY 2010

RMKS/1. BLUF: Begin patrol 170000Z May 10 E of Puerto Deseado. Transit to hold box N Islas Malvinas in preparation for PLA(N) Fleet engagement.

2. 0620Z Lost contact with Merchant.

3. 2000Z Due North of Islas Malvinas Western islands. Radio reports Splash Drop RADAR to SE, no risk of counterdetection

4. 0000Z Due North of Islas Malvinas interstitial waterway, Splash Drop RADAR still outside conterdetection range, genning SITREP prior to engagement.

5. It's a hard transit, and hard on our battery, but my crew remain vigilant and hungry. Sá sends.

Mission start, immediately reslot anti-surface Tigershark torpedoes to tubes 1, 2, 3, 4, and dual purpose SEEAL torpedoes to tubes 7,8, for emergency/ASW use only. Immediately surface, change course ESE, and all ahead Flank.

Pass a Merchant, lose contact. Won't be the last, but it's not exciting enough to report follow on Merchants. Shortly after this point, Battery is nearly depleted. Not only is Flank not meant for the surface, but it draws much more power than the Diesel can put out. Down to Cruise, and let the battery charge some.

Getting relatively close, tons of Splash Drop radar, but we're well outside their effective range.

24h after beginning mission, we've finished. The Transit, at any rate. After nearly 300 nmi of transit, we're technically within the Splash Drop RADAR effective range, but it'll be a cold day in a hot place before these unalerted Helos recognize a surfaced submarine so far away, assuming they're even looking this far yet.

Will post results of engagement forthwith, following completion.

Good afternoon, gentlegoons. This is your flight lead, R. Dario Banderas C., son of acclaimed FAE pilot Raúl Banderas D., who also flew the Mirage F1.

The Plan
Waypoints subject to whims of mission maker. Remember to reconfirm waypoints in the cockpit before takeoff.

Fly nap-of-the-earth along the fjords to the target at 350~355kias for best fuel economy. Upon nearing the ALPHA the 2nd element will accelerate to MIL and drop durandals across the length of the runway, being mindful of the NNW winds that will push our bombs forward and to the right. Be mindful of aircraft spacing to prevent fragging a buddy. First element will proceed to CHARLIE, striking similarly.

Upon GUINEA PIG:

AAR

Springfield flight succeeded in our mission.

Aviation - Meets Expectations
Navigation - Meets Expectations
Communication - Meets Expectations
Coordination - Close call with ordnance splash intra-flight; be more mindful of your own position when following someone else's attack
Ordnance Employment - We will never be able to plan for Vaha Weather, but we all did not compensate nearly enough for the wind and most durandals impacted on the leeward edge of the runways. Given that the craters are 2m deep, 5m wide, and shift concrete blocks up to 50cm vertically over a 15m diameter, we still got close enough.

Pilot Notes:
Springfield 1-1 scored a melee kill against a J-7, sustaining damage to at least the starboard stabilator. Returned to base, but had a hard landing and came to a stop against a 40ft container some rear end in a top hat put next to the flight line.
Springfield 1-2 destroyed significant airport support infrastructure and consumables. Returned to base without incident.
Springfield 1-3 made the run without functioning navigation system. Taunted the damaged Type 054A frigate. Returned to base without incident.
Springfield 1-4 suppressed enemy air defenses. Returned to base without incident.

Losses: 0
Unserviceable Airframes: 1 - starboard stabilator cut, radome cracked, landing gear inspection/repair required.

Mission start, Maintain WSW course to close to assessed patrol areas.

Gain Square Tie surface search RADAR. Carried aboard... PLA warships. Closing to investigate, eventually VID'd to a patrol craft. Not worth our time.

Detect LF SONAR to SSE. Turn to investigate, intend to VID if unable to confirm classification by acoustic means.

Peeked over the water to VID FFG 525, broad opening aspect. Before we get too far into this stern chase, we'll come about to ESE to close range and maintain aspect.

On my order, release two SEEAAL ASuW torpedoes, coded Davin and EdEdd&Eddy (EEE for brevity). Maintain speed and course to keep wire intact.

SONAR reports explosion, Fire Control reports loss of connection to Davin, and reports EEE has lost contact. I overhear murmurs from the crew, Davin getting the hit was not a surprise. Will attempt steers of EEE to see if weapon acquires target.

No target acquired on EEE. Turning away before end of run. Confirm end of run. Intend to come to PD for contact picture and attempt observation on FFG.

No visual on FFG. Assess good kill for Davin. "As expected," my XO tells me. Detect HF SONAR from Ka-28 Helix A to W. Go deep and attempt to make way to S.

Brief return to PD to check contact picture. Several contacts between approx 220 and 160. Unable to maintain at PD based on continued contact with Helix. Helix henceforth reported by code Jin. Assess Jin likely embarked Helo aboard struck FFG, based on continued contact for next few hours, but no engagement. Assess Jin was scrambled off-deck without time to load weapons. Slowly open range to Jin, though he maintains in ships baffles. Begin creeping to NE to open range to fleet for snorkel operations.

End NE of Islas Malvinas and Port Stanley, intend to creep two more hours before coming to PD to run diesel and charge battery.

Expenditures:
2x SST-4 Mod 0 SEEAAL ASuW torpedoes.

No Damage to TUPI, once batteries are in good order we are ready to return to the area and reengage.

:siren: SIGINT indicates that rather than being left out during the upcoming cruise missile and drone strikes, the PLA ground forces in vicinity of Porvenir are planning some sort of action with support from higher HQs. :siren:

It is unclear what the threat is, but the PLA possesses both anti-ship missiles as well as artillery that could range across the Strait of Magellan and have not been employed in weeks, offering them a chance to refit. Recommend immediate scramble of available strike aircraft to be ready to react to attack from vicinity of Porvenir.

Whether the threat is small craft, anti-ship missiles, or rocket artillery, be prepared to retaliate or silence the enemy weapon systems rapidly. Given the darkness, finding the enemy before they take first action is unlikely, but once they fire, there should be a window to strike them as they reveal themselves but before they can all escape.

Threats: Heavy MG, AAA, degraded by darkness, though Fire Can emissions have been detected over the past few days. MANPADS unlikely due to low visibility. SA-8 or FB-6A (Avenger surrogate) is possible and the most dangerous possible SAM threat, though there is no SA-8 emission currently detected.

South American Combined Armada

Naval Fleet & Aviation Orders: "Operation Touchback", 15 APR 2010

The effects of our latest operation have been significant and caused a shift in the Chinese posture. They are retreating their forces from the western coast of Tierra del Fuego, and concentrating their remaining continental aircraft in Rio Grande. However, in the aftermath of our attack the PLA have organized a series of reprisal attacks throughout the campaign theater. Intel indicates a variety of cruise missiles, rocket launches, and aerial strikes are incoming. We have only a few short hours to organize a defense of our airfields, and expect a night-time assault. All pilots and crews should prepare for combat.

AO Bolt (Punta Arenas) / AO Arrow (Rio Gallegos):

The Air Force has concentrated a great number of their forces within the recently established airport of Punta Arenas, and will be mounting a defense from there. After bombarding PLA forces near Caleta Rosario and Porvenir, the US Navy Surface Action Group has sailed an hour north to the port of Punta Arenas, and will assist in the protection of the city. Similarly, the ARA Veinticinco de Mayo and the Chilean Fleet has moved closer to Port Harris and the damaged Almirante Schroeders airfield. Meanwhile, SACA has accepted responsibility for the defense of Rio Gallegos and Rio Chico airfields in AO Arrow. Dodge and Devil squadrons will perform standing Combat Action Patrols, and attempt to secure the city from enemy attacks. While the airport has some NASAMS defenses, in addition to a USMC EWR company, the base remains vulnerable to cruise missiles and aerial bombs.

Separately, signal intelligence indicates that some PLA rearguard forces have survived the naval bombardment and are assembling near Porvenir. Ford's mission will be to scramble their alert fighters and eliminate the threat before they can do too much damage to Punta Arenas or the nearby fleets. The details are very vague, but anything from patrol boats, to rocket artillery, to anti-ship missiles may be in the area and are massing an attack. The PLA forces are believed to be defended by, "Heavy MG, AAA, degraded by darkness, though Fire Can emissions have been detected over the past few days. MANPADS unlikely due to low visibility. SA-8 or FB-6A (Avenger surrogate) is possible and the most dangerous possible SAM threat, though there is no SA-8 emission currently detected."

AO Stone (Argentine Sea) / AO Rocket (Islas Malvinas):

The submarine forces on the eastern coast of South America have been engaged in heavy action recently, and have had success in sinking a number of PLAN frigates and transport ships. The BAE Shyri struck first, and destroyed a Type 054A frigate as well as a large portion of the Chinese amphibious transport forces that had been responsible for the attempted Rio Gallegos invasion. However, in the course of her attack the Shyri sustained damage to one of her four torpedo tubes and used up much of her weapon inventory. The Shyri will now set out for the Mar de Plata Naval Base (heart of the Argentine submarine fleet) for repairs and resupply - a journey of a few days followed by at least a week in refit. Meanwhile, the Brazilian submarine Tupi attacked the 3rd PLAN Fleet and sunk one of the Type 054A frigates that had been responsible for the destruction of her sister the Tikuna early in the war. The Tupi remains engaged with the fleet, and has reported sighting of the Liaoning carrier group, which was previously seen south of Isla Malvinas headed towards the Drake Passage and AO Bolt. This carrier and her escorts represent a significant threat to the British, Argentine, and Brazilian fleets that have been massing near Comodoro Rivadavia for the eventual invasion of the Falkland Islands.

Meanwhile the ARA San Juan is maneuvering for her own attack on the 1st PLAN forces - focusing her attention on the flagship destroyer DDG Hangzhou and her escorts. These forces previously have rained down destruction with indiscriminate attacks on Rio Gallegos, and they are believed to be intending to resume their assaults - unless we sink them first. Similarly, the CNS Carrera and CNS O'Higgins have been ordered back into the fray after resupplying in Puerto Montt. They are targeting the remains of the 2nd PLAN fleet, which has largely responsible for the occupation of Punta Arenas. Sink those transports and their escorts, and drive them from AO Bolt.

3. ELINT and SIGINT indicates heightened PLAN activity from approx 1730Z 18 April to approx 0500Z 19 April, including at least one missile launch.

4. Based on last SITREP from TUPI, we feel confident in making the assessment that ASW Helos likely initiated depth charging of TUPI, likely driving her to the surface where the FFG engaged with an ASCM. Given the PLA returning to normal readiness and no word from TUPI, we assess TUPI joins the brave souls of TIKUNA on Eternal Patrol in our South Atlantic. May they rest easy knowing they went down reminding the PRC that they are not welcome, and they are not safe in our waters.

5. Please send our sincerest condolences to the families broken by this tragedy, surviving spouses and children will be listed SEPCOR. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten, nor will it have been in vain.

I put myself in a bad position, strictly speaking. Overall, I should have spent more time getting familiar with the laydown of PRC naval units before engaging, and I should have conducted the lions share of my transit submerged which would likely have facilitated doing so somewhat on my first day. Towards the end of the second day, I should not have humored the Helix as much as I had, as soon as I shot the Jiangkai I should have turned North and made my way out of their bubble so I could have set myself up to be at PD for the beginning of this day, charging my batteries, rather than allowing the pressure of needing to know what was around me drive me unnecessarily shallow and permit the helos to find me again. Then, while I had some x15 speed going, I looked away from my screen and immediately got plenty of word that something was quite wrong, as I'd likely been depth charged and driven to the surface following the damage to my electric motors, and from there the Type 054 wasted no time and took no chances.

Truth is, the game was rigged from the start.

Capitão de Fragata Maurício Conceição Sá will be missed, as will his capable and eager crew.

UPDATE:

Big Picture:

Apaches are to interdict any mechanized reinforcements traveling south on HWY 3 from their lookout point on the northeast peninsula of TdF. The highway is about 5 km inland from the water. Expected composition includes IFVs and possible SHORAD units.

Harriers and/or Devil are to interdict or provide CAS as required to keep PLA security forces from taking the compound and threatening the LZ. Composition of these troops is primarily APCs, dismounted riflemen, and gun-trucks. These are internal convoy security forces and not well armed, but they have called for reinforcement.

Transports and/or gunships are to reach the ODA and extract them from the hotel. Be prepared to extract 12x personnel.

File photo of the LZ and objective:

Image below of hotel compound. The hotel compound is a series of generally WHITE and light colored buildings surrounding a courtyard area that is an open field. Primary LZ is inside that field; it is illuminated. Secondary LZ is the beach south of the hotel if the courtyard is a challenge (~50x50 meters). Friendlies fully control the hotel compound itself. There are sporadic gunfights through the rest of the town, so check fire inside the built up area without clear confirmation from the JTAC. While the petroleum facility is largely a ghost town, there are still a few civilian caretakers in the area, plus friendly forces have captured a few trucks enemy secfor vehicles that were minimally guarded at the petro plant. Do not fire on a target just because it's an MT-LB, for example, if it's inside the town.

Plan amongst yourselves! Sign up on the sheet!

Ideal RW participants would be Apaches, Hueys/Hips, Possibly Hinds if they want the night flying challenge. Rotors will fly from Monte Dinero (~65 km trip one way).
Ideal FW participants would be Harriers and/or Hornets.
