Some revocation songs hit really hard and have catchy riffs, some are really boring and tedious. So it's hard for me to get stoked on them all the time.

My Children of Bodom station on Pandora played a Linkin Park song today between old-skool In Flames and Amon Amarth. The hell?

And apparently metalheads are mindless drones who return to the same old known artists but we knew that just reading this thread. :btroll: http://mashable.com/2015/05/31/spotify-mixed-blessing-metal/

So there was a last minute venue change for Deicide that also led to the start time being way later, and as a result everybody except for Deicide had abbreviated sets. The first three acts got only 15 minutes (although the shorter the better for Lorna Shore)! Still a good show though. Really glad I got see old-rear end L-G Petrov and some randos from late-career Entombed playing Left Hand Path and Revel in Flesh.

This is the first time I've ever listened to this band... uh, it's okay? I dunno. Not sure why it's such a big deal. Also, I was kinda expecting growls for some reason.

It sounds like the interlude of a BTBAM song stretched out to 6 minutes.

This thread has a total hate-boner for Ghost for some reason.

The new song is kinda catchy and I'll probably listen to the new album a few times and enjoy it, just like Opus Eponymous and Infestissumam.

quote:

Mastodon band members Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher, and Brent Hinds portrayed "wildlings" on tonight's episode of "Game of Thrones", which was filmed in Belfast in Northern Ireland. As previously reported, the band's original song "White Walker" is featured on the "Game of Thrones" mixtape Catch the Throne Vol. 2, but in the instance of their physical appearance, a press release from Reprise Records reports that the band was personally invited to participate in the show by "Game of Thrones" executive producer Dan Weiss, who is a fan of the band.

Brann Dailor said of the experience:

It was such an incredible experience to be on set as extras for our collective favorite show Game Of Thrones and to be wildlings murdered and then brought back to life by White Walkers was beyond amazing. I watched my best friends Brent and Bill, murdered right in front of me as I myself was stabbed in the stomach and had my throat slit multiple times, and I didn't mind at all. It made me love being in Mastodon even more. We are more than privileged and honored to have been a part of one of the greatest stories ever told on film, and the catering wasn't bad either.

It's because they really aren't metal but get posted a lot, and are also pretty popular outside of the more hardcore metal fandom which leads to dislike because it brings "fake" fans to metal threads.

I like em though, they write catchy stuff

Can't tell if this is avant garde or just terrible

A human heart
Oct 10, 2012

It's good but not avant garde, because there's no metal that's avant garde. Old Italian doom is pretty cool, a lot of it seems very much influenced by prog rock to me, it's particular noticeable with a band like Black Hole, who were basically Goblin crossed with trad doom, but I think it's present in the Paul Chain material as well(although I haven't listened to that much of his stuff). Italy had a massive prog rock scene in the 70s and many of the bands are still going, so it's not surprising that it showed up as an influence on their metal.

Just finished seeing Blind Guardian in Helsinki. As if the crowd wasn't amped enough from the start, after like the second or third song Hansi announced they were recording the show and that we're gonna be on their next live album. I'm pretty sure pieces of the venue's roof are still raining down somewhere.
