Just finished the first real mow of the year and I have to say if you have a suburban sized yard (we're on a little over a 1/4 acre) battery electric lawn tools are the way to go. No worries about winterizing, no anxiety on if it's gonna start in the spring. Just make sure the batteries are charged and off you go.

I had a few areas where the cool season grass has already come in really tall and think and I was mulching and the mower didn't miss a beat.

Its pretty easy to draw a line between deboss and the zipties bias plys guys.

Personally I quit watching almost all of these channels. Welker Farms too, giant American Flags, joining parler, yeah they seem like cool folks but meh.

There is this whole victim culture that surrounds rural white males. I drive through rural indiana every day, grew up in rural upstate NY, been to a poo poo ton of nowhere towns. Its all in a state of massive decay. For the erik o, ivans and a lot of these guys its easy to point the finger at the government or whoever and say “they left us behind, tax dollars on welfare, we are slaves to taxes, <insert dog whistle here>”. Then they surround themselves with the same propaganda on FB, TV, radio, and everyone of their friends has the same opinion and its just inescapable. Unfortunately they are only making the problem worse and are rapidly becoming radicalized. The gun culture/blue lives matter is particularly toxic, more and more of them are literally preparing to fight whatever religious or culture war fox tells them to. Its become ok to put facist bumperstickers on your car, talk openly about shooting “liberals”, and wear clothing that brags about shooting anyone “who comes for my gunzzz”. Its brainwashing man, and even here when we talk about them we are doing some “othering” as well.

Absolutely. I used my new Ego today mostly just to mulch down some leaves and even it up. I expected it to be louder than it was, I'm very impressed how quiet it is. Really just a much nicer mower than I used to have all over. Deck height is easy to change, speed control, comfortable height.

I put the battery on the charger when I was done and the charger said no thx not yet. So that's awesome.

The trimmer is great too. Not much more to say, it was comfortable and powerful.

Also had a great chat with my barber today about cars, his project, my project, I showed off the Binder after. I saw a lot of great cars out and about too. Just a great day for seratonin.

There are good content shows though like build and battle, kucklebusters, anything Dan, Suppy or Jamo works on, stuff like that. I mean, that is the exact reason. Maybe if we could trust people we wouldn't have to extend mask mandates.

I got a super nice MTD mower with a stainless deck and bigass Honda motor today, it cuts grass so hood, this time of year parts of my lawn grow like 4" a week, and this is the first mower I've had that can mulch the big clumps, even the big Honda engined Husqvarna would stall out. I am not interested in bagging an acre of grass clippings.

I have a riding mower, but it's a PoS, and needs constant care and attention to keep running, and I'm gonna have a couple kids housitting for awhile, and they need something they can pull the cord on and go.

Boss contacted me and said I can come to work so long as I'm symptom free and without a fever. So I went in (I do have a test for tomorrow just to be safe, and they did a temp check when I got there).

Glad I did... plugged a forklift in to charge, and once the charger contactor clunked on, heard a whole bunch of crackling. Cord from the charger to the wall was sparking a fair bit at the wall plug, charger shut down after a few seconds, but still sparked occasionally (I guess from the charger trying to power back up?) Glad the night lead trusts me enough that when I say "hey I need the key to the electrical room NOW", he knows I'm not loving around. Most people just walk away as soon as they plug in the forklifts or pallet jacks to charge - there's a 5 second delay before the chargers kick in.

Yup, dem be crispy. Found the breaker and shut it off, taped a big DO NOT USE note on the charger, reported to manglement. I give it 3 months before it gets fixed....

Rented a 26' UHaul and did the majority of the move. Glad I got a truck that big but holy gently caress it was awful to drive. Brakes, throttle, and steering were all only vague suggestions on a 77k mile F650 with the V10.

Driving a 10' U-Haul back from MS, I passed 2 of these following each other. Seems they were governed a little lower - the 4.8 in the 10 footer would do 75 so long as it wasn't going uphill, but was very much governed there. The F650s looked like they were limited to 70.

Whoever thought putting a gas V10 in a F650 can go shoot themselves in the dick. I know U-Haul was trying to get rid of diesels, but that engine is seriously NOT the right power plant for a truck that big. Though the 16 ft Penske I rented with the V10 a few years ago was able to hold 95 with a flatbed car hauler + Saturn on hauler + fairly full box. I was shocked it was governed that high (and unlike the Chevy 10 footer, it didn't slam down 3 gears every time it came off of the limiter if I still had it floored).

Yeah I went to college in upstate ny and living up there the last two years (I lived there for a year out of college) really radicalized me for real.

I moved to NYC and shortly after to Atlanta and made friends with some black software developers and I talked to them about some of this stuff and they managed to de-radicalize me.

It's pretty wild how isolation and living in a weird echo chamber like that can really detach you from reality. I would have voted for Trump but fortunately I was literally too hosed up on drugs and booze to make it to the polls lol. I went on a bender and at the time and completely forgot about voting... So yeah I guess I filtered myself out to the equation which is good because I would feel pretty guilty about it now otherwise...

It's sad tbh people that live in towns like that really just need to cut the cope and move to a place where things are going on. Half of the problem is that a lot of these people are simply unwilling to change with the times. That is far from a unique observation but at the end of the day that is really what's going on.

Yeah people here are split down the racetrack vs quicktrip line. I personally like both of them. Racetrack coffee is unironically cool and good and I enjoy it from time to time.

Back when I was a smoker I used to prefer quicktrip because the one by my house would not card me bc they recognized me as a regular (I think it's racetrack policy to check everytime no matter what).

I think Buc-ees is still my favorite though tbh. They pay way better than both of those places. They are Trump supporters but they treat their employees so well from what I understand that I don't even care.

The only time I did anything other than gingerly touch the throttle was with the truck unloaded and heading back to the UHaul center to return it, where I used WOT turning onto the main road.

It felt and sounded exactly like it did when I had been babying the throttle, and was still absurdly slow.

Plus side overall is that the truck was marked off as only having half a tank on the contract when I picked it up, but was just below 3/4 - so I didn't have to try and maneuver that monstrosity into a gas station.

The 10 footer wasn't bad to get into a gas station - except for my wallet. I think I spent right at $100 for ~650 miles, and it got turned in pretty much with the gas dead on 3/8 (what it had at pickup). The DIC showed right at 12.2 MPG, though it was packed to the gills. It showed 13.9 MPG when I picked it up, but I had it pinned once I got on open highway.

The 16 foot V10 Penske, pulling a flatbed car hauler, with a car? 13 MPG as measured by fillups. How a 4.8 LS in a much lighter truck does worse than a Ford V10..... :saddowns:

I’d kill to have a place like that when I was your kids’ age!

So my work truck, a 2009 Chevy express, started grinding from the rear brakes. I jacked up to do rear pads and rotors and the passenger side that was grinding was also covered in rear end fluid, so add new axle seals to the list. Got to the drivers side and there were still factory clips on the rotor. This truck has 250,000 miles on it! I don’t remember doing the passenger side but I must have at some point, or it was done within the first 25,000, before I got it.

Took a nap after work, whipped up an easy Easter dinner (half of a spiral sliced ham, oven roasted baby potatoes with garlic and rosemary, brown n serve rolls brushed with butter, mac & cheese, frozen mixed veggies tossed with some salt and pepper, half a gallon of ice cream). Had a (fully vaccinated) friend over, the 3 of us enjoyed pigging out. Then I promptly fell into a food coma. Just woke up; I'm off tonight since the store was closed all day (and no truck tonight), but can't have my hours drift too much.

Work always comes up with crazy combo coupons for holidays - in this case, you buy the ham, and everything else I mentioned was free (~$17 savings for buying one of the smallest hams - only $24). Have about half of the ham still left and most of the mac & cheese.

My GF brought her GM's potato salad, which is a compromise between the best dressing ever (German style mayo+mustard with added pickle juice) and worst disgusting undercooked and crunchy potatoes ever.

Pretty good time overall.

Check out my 'Vette, bro

Reminds me of the time I was living in Eindhoven, wanted to make an Apple Pie. Found these wonderful pre-cut bagged apples at the market. Pie looked wonderful, cut me a slice, bit in and found they weren't apples. They were potatoes.

Potatoes do not taste good with nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, and cloves.
