It didn't just stop. There's surely people still alive today that had to use separate bathrooms, go to different schools, not be allowed service in the same restaurants, and got hit with fire hoses and had dogs sicced on them when they dared to protest. They were hanged and dragged behind trucks in our grandparents time and still shot by our own law enforcement with little to no repercussions to this day. Hope that helps op. There were slaves of every color in America back then (and all around the world since it was a system that had been used forever) more white slaves than black slaves too. And the treatment of the black slaves in the USA was a thousand times better than what slaves experienced in South America or the Caribbean Islands. The current standard of living for an African American is far far higher than anything our "people" back in Africa or even other previous slave nations could ever dream of. Yeah we get unfairly treated a lot and that is bad but hey guess what, life isn't fair and there is always someone getting the raw end of the deal.
