Re: trans women in sports, muscle mass, distribution and density in trans women has the same variation and range as in cis women after a year of HRT. All the scaremongering and complaining about trans women out-competing cis women is simply transphobia, or at the very least fear borne of ignorance. Like taitale said, bone structure (so height basically) is about all that differs. There aren't many sports where height gives you an advantage - basketball and volleyball are about all I can think of, and even then it's not like the tallest players are necessarily the best.

The structure of the pelvis is an obvious counter example.

Not to mention for a huge amount of effort you would still be left with largely male only and female only brackets/events because the gap between the strongest/fastest woman and the bottom of the field in men is still sizeable. Yeah, but there's also the fact that in a bunch of sports where raw muscle mass is less important- like shooting, for example- women are absolutely able to mop the floor with men. In every single one of these sports the women's events have been deliberately changed so that the scores are no longer comparable with men's scores; usually this happens almost immediately after a woman starts to dominate a gender-mixed division. Don't get me wrong, men tend to dominate the sports that men dominate at, but there are a lot of less muscle-dependent sports where women are equally capable of wrecking poo poo.

I've seen some men with some pretty wide hips and some women with some pretty slim hips.

re: the earlier education conversationRNZ posted:...more than half the cases involved children with recognised behaviour problems. Twenty-three of the reports came from secondary schools, 79 from special schools, and 321 from primary schools. I know a bit about the Special Needs side of schools. As much as I love to hate the guy, I can't put the blame on Key it was well before his time, if you want to you could perhaps blame Ruth Richardson or even Roger Douglas. I suspect though that it was just a continuation of New Zealand's deinstitutionalisation from the 70's onwards. In as much as I recall, special needs classes started integrating the late eighties or early nineties which definitely involved some schools shutting down. The whole situation is complex and involves more time and money than the system has available or is willing to allocate. Given the existing structure or lack thereof, there are huge benefits for people who are on the high end of the spectrum if they can get educated alongside those who don't have special needs. Government support starts to disappear as soon as they leave the school system, many will end up joining the workforce in some capacity through groups like IHC. In the 90's the class sizes were about ten to fifteen students with a teacher who was experienced and to some degree had specialised in that area of education. Teachers in general also had access to a lot more teacher aid. Given the condition of our schools, social services and mental health system I would guess the situation will probably get worse before it gets better. Or it will just get worse as we continue our current trend of attempting to emulate the worst parts of the US system. Sadly there just isn't a lot of political capital involved especially when other issues are a lot more visible. The consequences of current policy will be something for a future government to deal with, just as we are dealing with issues stemming from policies that were put in place twenty to thirty years ago.

I guess a corollary of National being in power (and the culture that JK set within the party, to be fair to him) is that these racists kept their poo poo to themselves, but now the corks out of the bottle and they've got nine years of pent up bigotry to vent. The media def need to be asking themselves why they're publishing this hateful poo poo though. It's almost nostalgic for me, thinking back to my early political memories of National/Nat supporters bashing Maori. National are also saying beneficiaries will sign up for university courses just to get more money as students, which is really reminiscent of the line they ran when WFF was brought in of "people will have babies just for the cash".

They are just going to keep hammering the election results because they want the narrative of the stolen election no matter how blatantly false it is to both undermine the governments current work, drive the base for the next election for another run at FPTP in a MMP system. They have killed all their "Friends". The lies become reality within their minds if it goes on for long enough and reality for us if we engage such absurdity in good faith. It's American right wing politics horror show. The response must be cutting them off with "gently caress of you lying dumb shits", not to engage them in polite conversation. The government is half way there by just ignoring them and just doing their job which is just fine, less energy wasted on them the better. Anybody get the mobile test civil defence signal? Been a heck of a long time since the last test and it made quite the racket.
