Can't comment on balance, I'm the type of rear end in a top hat who bought the grinding DLCs and more or less broke the game in half. That said there's some really neat challenge DLCs that expect you to be super high level with a hand crafted demon team, which is neat.

The endings largely come down to making specific choices at specific moments that are super obvious, like in P5. There is a sort of morality mechanic, but it only comes into play if you pick a side that goes against how you've played your character up to that point. Vague endgame spoilers: If you act like a prick all game and pick the "power of friendship" ending, then all your demons get deleted (you keep your compendium though). If you act like a power of friendship shonen action hero all game, and then pick the "gently caress EVERYTHING" ending you lose all your items, which is way harsher.

Also forgot to reply to this but this sounds really good. I'm not opposed to new takes on demons (Loki's Persona 4 look is by far his best) but a lot of demons in IV were just straight UGLY, for instance the archangels, which I get are supposed to have an otherworldly look but they just didn't jive with the other designs as a whole.

Endings being really obvious is extremely my poo poo.

In my first playthrough I got Haru and wrote off her SL because it was already so late in the game and I needed to start focusing on what I could actually complete. I think I got like rank 1 with her.

Does finishing her SL flesh her out any besides retreading stuff about her dad or fiance? She really had no presence in the game for me whatsoever besides being the insider during Operation: Burgerman.

Her S-Link is good. It also has a really refreshing development in which the new company president, who she thinks is trying to screw her over, turns out to be a really good guy and the issue was that they just didn't understand each other. It's nice that he didn't turn out to be an rear end in a top hat whose heart you have to change or something. He even helps her get out of her engagement with her horrible fiance.

Haru's link is also really easy to level up. Every hangout event has a lot of dialog options, more than most links, and almost every option gives 3 notes' worth of points. I'm pretty sure they knew she'd need to rank up every time given how late she unlocked.

Just that I'd read for so long that there's a lot of pressure for women to get married young, especially, and Kawakami talking about how she's getting too old for the agency to want to work with her (and that SIU scene you mentioned) just made me wonder what it's actually like in Japan right now.

Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

There's a specific way of grinding levels that you can do for 5ish days between November and December, but I dunno if anyone's actually getting up to 99. Pretty much every party member learns their last move at 75, so that's basically max level for all intents and purposes, and the highest level persona you can fuse starts at 95, so you don't even need to get Joker up to 99 to circumvent Strength's final reward.

Harrow
Jun 30, 2012

I've seen videos of people who leveled to 99 and they very likely did so using the special EXP method ChaosArgate mentioned. Although once you're strong enough you probably don't need that special method anymore.

There's no reason to really care about levels beyond 74/75, though, depending on the party member. Once you max out Strength, you can pay money to fuse Personas above your level, and every party member learns their ultimate skill at 74 or 75. Anything beyond that is just gravy.

I ended up finishing my first playthrough around level 76 or so, just because of how much EXP you can get in the final dungeon. Of course, I also spent millions of yen and had a few awesome level 85-90 Personas anyway :v:

Got Orthos'd to death trying to complete the 3rd code in the vault. If you were like me and trying to complete the entire palace the day it opens, you probably know exactly which room I'm talking about, too. That's a bad scene when you're running low on SP. Although the thought occurs to me: if you can already figure out the code, do you actually need the journal pages? Because unless I'm missing something the answer is 2319. 'HUGS' is such an unexpectedly sweet code for that guy, too. Maybe he's not so bad after all! :v:

Yes if you want to bypass the journals you can just look online and enter the code.

That was probably the hardest dungeon for me. I didn't buy the SP patch yet and had really limited SP refills so I pretty much had to play it like metal gear solid for the last quarter.

I was also curious about this, so I did some digging. Social pressure is obviously different from the data on how people actually behave. That said, here's some data on how people actually behave.

The most recent numbers I found are from a UN report from the 2000s. They say that on average, Japanese women have their first marriage significantly older than ones in the US and UK; about the same as Australian ones; and significantly younger than western European ones, for example. There's more detail in there if you want to look.

More than that, some slightly sketchy historical data from gapminder.org says that Japanese women have been getting married older than American ones at every point since the 1930s(!).

As someone who was all 'Mishima is the worst' halfway through his SL, he actually does get better about it and ends it being pretty good.

Honestly all SLs are solid, and the few that aren't are party members (Ann, Makoto to an extent) so they still get development outside the link.

I like the part of the chain where he (the creator of the poo poo game) refers people to Yanderedev to aid in his defense. Yanderedev of "I don't understand why Twitch banned my murder porn game where everything you need to purchase is attained by collecting panty shots of every single female school student in the game" fame.

I think if you're falling on his side of an argument, you concede the loss and move on using the argument he made as an inviolable guideline in how to fix things by doing the exact opposite.

I think you need to quote the paragraph, because good lord the stones on this guy.

quote:

As for the characters, as I’ve stated before, I’ve chosen the influence of Shigenori Soejima, who is distinguished for his works on the Persona games. Most notably, his most recent product is Persona 5, which released in the west just a month ago to universal acclaim. Many have drawn comparisons between Persona 5‘s art style, and the art style of my game; I would be a fool to not admit that I was very inspired by it when I was designing both the characters and the interface. I however have seen some accusations that the characters I am making are nothing more than ‘ripoffs’ or ‘bargain bin Persona’ characters, which deeply sadden for a number of reasons. However, I won’t dwell on this comparison much, and will simply refer anyone who seeks to accuse me of ‘stealing’ ideas or designs from Persona to Yandere Dev’s excellent post about the exact same subject.

Note at no point does he actually refute that his characters and art style are ripping off Persona 5.

So, did they actually steal Sae's heart, or did she come around just from talking to Joker? The treasure they show is the ringer to fool Akechi, but they could have also grabbed the real one. I'm guessing they didn't and Joker's story and commitment to Justice is enough to sway her back because she's not as forgone as the other rulers.
