SHAVE ME FROM MY SHELF

Operation DREAD KING was my first taste of properly massive swarms of enemies. The map had 11 troopers and 2 sectoids; I was able to get ALMOST within sprinting distance of the target workstation before an attempt to position for an ambush sloshed things. Nonetheless, we managed to slog our way through. Corporal Kelly was dropped and miraculously clung to life, fortunately after she'd fired off all her grenades; Corporal Han was able to extract her while Manana and McIntosh cleared the remainder of the enemy. Manana took a hit and got dropped to 1 HP, but pinned down the last surviving enemy soldier in a shooting match from full cover to full cover while McIntosh sprinted for the workstation and sudo'wned it without a turn to spare.

At this rate, I'm going to run out of soldiers who can walk. We also missed the loot drop on this mission, as the soldier who would have been in the best position to take it was on the ground spitting blood.

This is why you only stay in concealment for 2-3 turns, once you can ambush one or two pods that's it. Trying to slip past enemies when you have to kill them all anyway is a recipe for disaster.

Yeah, concealment isn't for you to ghost a mission, it's for you to ambush enemies. Rangers who can reconceal themselves are useful on certain missions where you want them to sneak around enemies to unlock an objective, though (like planting X4 in a base, or opening up a van guarded by attacking aliens).

No argument. I was in the process of ambushing when I accidentally triggered, is the stupid bit.

This one started badly and ended badly. As soon as we hit the ground, they started swarming us. They were fighting from atop and inside a building, and we were not. We managed to hang on momentarily and might have squeaked through if not for our sniper getting caught in a spreading fire and burning to death. In the end, the VIP was within sprinting distance of exfil with one hitpoint left, but they lost their nerve and begged for mercy. For their trouble they were beaten to death by a psychically reanimated corpse.

We'll see how this ends. Here's how we stand now:

Its pretty handy, it lets you select all, save profiles and so forth.

Additionally, I did a complete reinstall :negative: and I'm still getting crashes.

So what happens when the objective that you have to hack or retrieve is destroyed by a loving gatekeeper that exploded after being killed and was close to it? I had to kill it, otherwise the army of zombies it created would have decimated my squad. But I still had to painfully watch as none of my operatives were able to retrieve the package after standing next to it's remains for 3 turns and Central reminding you that you are a moron and should hurry up.

I failed the mission, but I think that the game could avoid me this pain by just ending it. Or do you at least something in return by "securing the AO"?

So let me tell you about a man named Sokolov.

When the call came down to engage an Advent reprisal team, Sokolov was the first to stand. Not because he was hungry to kill, but because he wanted to help people.

He ran forward in to enemy fire to extract civilians before they could be attacked, but he was also the first to discover a Faceless. He thought that moving in to good cover would be enough to protect him, but he was wrong. The faceless killed him, but fortunately, in so doing, it detonated the fuel cells in the vehicle he was using for cover.

The remnants of that cover served us well in the ensuing firefight and allowed us to win the day despite outrageous odds.

Goodbye, Sokolov. You were the warhound today.

The patch seems to have been maybe a bit overly optimistic with its "oh you just need to load once before playing with mods and everything will just work after" given the variety of mods out there. Firaxis probably aren't testing the ones that ignore missing content/remove it as much, since they want to make their own version of that feature. I just gave up and conceded that my pre-patch saves would be relegated to providing some troops for the character pool. At least those campaigns were either done or not very far along.

Nope! Killzone and Guardian don't overlap.

Guardian sounds good for an Overwatch Sniper, for a chance at extra shots when you're trying to ambush but KZ is unavailable. But the two won't ever trigger together.

Did they change this? Run and Gun absolutely works with sniper rifles as long as you keep in mind that the rifle still needs 2 actions to fire and ends your turn. Pop run and gun, make one move, fire. Or just reload, pop RnG, fire. Because Run and Gun gives you an extra action that can be used for literally anything as long as your turn doesn't end.

I did this all through my first campaign; Run n' gun is basically a free self-applied Inspire. With a free Grapple move, you basically get to move full speed and shoot.
