Radio Paranoia posted:Biblical names have always been pretty popular within certain circles. I ran into a Naphthali the other day, cut from the same cloth if I"m not mistaken. I mean, they're pretty common among Israeli Jews, even non-religious ones. Although there it's more common to have ones that have literal natural meanings. Lots of Erez (Cedar), Alon (Oak), Dvorah (Bee), Shunit (Reef), Almog (Coral), Guy (Valley), etc.

Dorca is Tabitha in Spanish, iirc. In an English speaking context, Osnat or Dikla are quite bad imo. E: In before AA says it's spelled Asenath or something in English.

The former is Anglicized as Asenath, which gives it a strange air in English that is absent in Hebrew, probably making The Thing on the Doorstep very different, although I haven't read it in translation.

Splicer posted:I cannot not read that state to your left as anything other than ArKansas. I'm terrible and I suck so I'm not gonna google up the details but Arkansas is a word of the Native Tribe that lived in this area, and Kansas comes from a different language root. Looks similar, very much different. As an aside, if the Native tribes that lived in the South of Arkansas, into the Mississippi and such, the "Mound Builders", had built with stone, there would be a poo poo ton of ruins similar to the Mayan structures. They built with wood, so by the time European's came around, the earth had reclaimed it all.

I also initially thought they were just putting it there in the office waiting for someone to shoot it, and it only struck me as a little strange. 'Heh, Americans '
