Plot rundown:

Background

Once upon a time there was an artifact, a Thing of Power. It was used by an alliance of three kings. The Thing of Power made these three basically immortal superbeings, along with other benefits. They had an alliance to share the Thing. This alliance was called "Kataru". (Kataru literally means "alliance" in ancient Sumerian, to give you an idea of how old these guys are). Kataru ruled the world-basically they were the illuminati on steroids.

Karatu had, squires, or officers of the court or something, which were called "Watchers". It's not clear if they had a bunch running around, or if there was one official Watcher appointed at a time. One of the Watchers, a guy named Baldwin may have tried to steal the Thing in about 1814. Baldwin failed to seize the Thing, and "came to grief," at the hands of a giant, shadowy monster (we now know these monsters as "Nephilim". You might remember 1814 as the the White House was burned down- yeah, that was the monster destroying things. This mess set off a power stuggle that caused Kataru to collapse- the kings sealed the Thing away, split up their alliance, and promptly started stealing and hiding each other's junk. One of the Kings came out mostly on top of this struggle, and he was still immortal, but he didn't have access to the Thing, and some of the other powerful artifacts used to access the Thing. This guy effectively took over Kataru and used it to seek out the other artifacts and engage in an extended, secret conflict with the other group members.

(Since this time, it appears the Thing, or at least the key to accessing the Thing, has been referred to as "Baldwin's Lament". This appears to refer to the whole shadow monsters curse. That name is dumb, so I'll keep calling it the Thing.)

Kataru Figures

King 1: "Healer King", aka the Dentist. Associated with that box with the eye of providence/pyramid on it, and The Diamond, which is also called the Demon Star.

The king who took over Kataru? We think that's the Dentist. Basically every antagonist group in the game, starting with Murkywater and including Gensec and the Garnet Group, seem to be working for him. He's apparently all-powerful, especially since we retrieved his box for him from the golden grin casino. He's also got the feds working for him at this point. We know that independent of any artifacts, he has otherworldly powers such as shapeshifting and mind control, and has been alive for centuries.

Oh, yeah, and we're pretty sure he's Benjamin Franklin.

King 2: "Elephant King", no prizes for guessing his identity. Associated with a box with a bird's flight trail on it (but the bird is tiny, the whole thing looks like an abstract snake), and the Police Star.

It looks like the Elephant was trying to coach Bain to be a sort of new generation of Watcher, maybe. Whatever his plan was, it's largely fallen apart with Bain gone and with McKendrick having turned on him. It looks likely that he was the reason that the Diamond was in a museum, and he might be why the Dentist's Loot was in the Golden Grin. It appears that the Elephant has deep ties to the actual American government, and it also appears possible that the Big Bank and Golden Grin were both under his direct or indirect control (since the Dentist sent us to attack them). The FBI briefly arrested him to seize his box, and since then he's been trying to get us to collect the other parts of the artifact- but he hasn't told us why, so he can't really be trusted either.

King 3: "Scribe King", identity unknown. Associated with a box with a double triangle thing on it, and the "Fate Star". Might have gotten killed in the civil war, might be hidden, might be Bain. No one's sure. It would be odd, but is theoretically possible that Nathan Garnet, the secretive head of the Garnet Group, is this king.

Watchers: Basically pages, probably functionaries meant to keep the kings from abusing their power and keep the pact going, safeguarding the Lament. It's ambiguous as to whether there was a single watcher at a time, or if there were many of them. Baldwin was definitely a watcher, Cagliostro was probably one. It's indicated that by 1905, all of the Watchers are "gone", due to the collapse of the old alliance. Some lines indicate Bain is also a Watcher- it's unclear who made him one, but it's implied that he's associated with the Scribe King.

Lindenhurst: Referred to as a "regent", which is someone who fills in when a king is unavailable. He was filling in for the Scribe King. Lindenhurst possessed an item, the "Amulet of the Perseids," which he passed on to Duke's grandfather, Desmond, because he thought a member of Kataru was attempting to steal all of the boxes and access the Thing. The Amulet turned out to be a key for the three boxes. When we opened them, two contained strange pieces of a mechanism, the Scribe King's box was empty. This was because, before he gave the key to Desmond, Lindenhurst used it to remove a piece from the Scribe King's box and bought passage on a ship heading to explore Antarctica. The Nephilim apparently tracked down and destroyed the ship and all aboard, including Lindenhurst, who tried to flee. They appear to have done this by ripping out his heart. Pleasant way to go! There are some lines from Duke saying he might have been murdered by "another regent", which further confuses things.

(There's some possibility here that Lindenhurst actually was the Scribe King, and Overkill are being really awkward with their use of the word "regent". This would close a bunch of weird gaps in the plot, but they haven't clarified that yet.)

Nephilim: These things are giant shadow monsters, and are also apparently the huge alien corpses we've seen in a couple other heists. It's not clear if the Watchers controlled them, if they are some sort of curse on the mechanism we're hunting, if they're controlled by the Diamond, or by the Thing, or if they're some sort of separate apocalyptic threat. It appears that the Nephilim have been depicted as gods since ancient times, and that past explorers have found their bodies in various ancient ruins. It's ambiguous how many of them there are, and what exactly they do. Some of the iconography we've got suggests that they are controlled by a Watcher wielding the Diamond, but it's not really clear. If that's the case, it's a problem for us, because it seems like the Dentist has the Diamond. Annoyingly, a bunch of stuff ingame also refers to the Nephilim as watchers. Who knows what's up with that.

Garnet Senior: We know nothing about Garnet Senior, except that he has ties to Murkywater a reputation for being secretive, and a bunch of items in his buildings that are related to the whole Secret thing. Given that we've been stealing his stuff, he's probably not our friend.

Bain: Bain's supposedly dead, but we saw a remote video feed of the Dentist and someone being tortured that we think was him. A bunch of the coded, hidden material implies that Bain is going to be resurrected as a new Watcher. Who knows?

Right Now

We're still going for the Thing, even though it seems like the Thing may or may not trigger the apocalypse. We have all three of the Kings' boxes, and the Amulet, and after the Shacklethorn auction, we have all the mechanical pieces that were in the boxes. It seems like the Dentist has at least one of the three "stars", and, well, Bain. And the FBI. And Gensec. And the Garnet Group. And Kento. Did I mention Kento appears to be running Murkywater for the Dentist? well, he is.

Oh, and we translated five sets of coordinates on the mechanism pieces. Three are the locations of well-known ancient pyramids.

One is the Lovecraftian city of Rly'eh, deep under the Pacific ocean.

and one, the "ark of the watcher", is the white house.

Anyone unfortunate enough to have played Raid will be familiar with how this works. The new game mode has built in new game mechanics, one of which is an ever increasing game difficulty through health and damage increases as time passes. This has leaked into the vanilla game, but only for clients.

Waiter, this band keeps shooting pearls at me.
If you haven't played since before shadow raid was released there have been a handful of missions that stealth is actually fun for now and designed around. You'll see a blue ghost in the job menu to indicate it is stealthable.

Some jobs are stealth only and a timer kicks in if alerted.

Some missions replace usual assets with a pre planning screen and points to spend on unique assets.

If you dominate a guard in stealth you will now need to answer their pager. Same deal with 4 max pagers until stealth is over. The "smooth talker" skill to add a fourth pager to the crew is included in your build at no cost now.

I still think it's funny that they got John Wick in the game, but they also got Bodhi from the Point Break reboot.

I'd like to think (if they had the option, and if he were still alive) that they would have gotten Patrick Swayze as one of the heisters.

No seriously, tt does look like there's been some major changes. There are some new heists, new heisters, it looks like you can finally have multiple load-out profiles, and the map screen looks like it's got some new stuff. I also see One Down has become Death Sentence. I got a whole bunch of achievements on start up.

I'm curious about what you need to shoot for when picking a loadout. Back when One Down hit, a lot of people found use with the Chivalry set and the Ninja pack because of how much damage the bows and whatnot did, along with the poison effects from the shuriken and kunai. I'm still carrying those around, but they might be useless now.

On the old One Down, enemies had significantly more HP and that was why high damage weapons were required. When they made One Down a mutator and brought in Death Sentence, enemy health was reduced to be the same as on Deathwish, with some exceptions.

Generally any fast-firing and concealable (to get critical hits) weapon - eg the Izhma shotgun and Union rifle for primary and the Mark 10 and Micro Uzi for secondary - works very well against all enemies, including specials and bulldozers. Grenade launchers are effective for clearing groups of enemies, but are rubbish against dozers and generally require more than one shot to kill any special units aside from shields.

I'm still not sure what stability determines, but I'm glad you still get some major benefits from it.

Something I ran across today was a mod some player was using called Silent Assassin, which apparently tweaks it so that if you take out a guard before they detect you, there won't be a pager. Someone said that the devs consider that cheating (don't know if that's true), but it seems like it balances stealth a bit better (we still had a ton of restarts and didn't finish the mission).

Silent Assassin is pretty much the only mod in existence that the devs have ruled is a cheat mod. The whole stealth system is structured around four pagers.

New post for big info:

:siren: Auction Cry can be ECM chained :siren:

So long as you wait to start the chain until the first pair of security boxes is hacked, your group of four can pretty easily ECM chain the rest of the objectives. Bear in mind:

1. You can pre-spawn and set up the zipline if you pick up an artifact somewhere
2. Someone will still have to turn the power off and on again in order for the person with the keycard to enter the auctioneer's office

Once the ECM chain starts, I recommend having one person just massacre the auction and grab the keycard, running for and camping the office. Whomever gets the blowtorch should similarly camp the vault.

maswastaken

They're throwables so that's two that last 6 seconds and get a reuse within 100 seconds* and you can bring two real ones that last 30 in addition.

* This refreshes one of them; you need another 100 seconds to get the other. You can reduce this by 6 seconds each time you kill an enemy.

You can get 72 seconds extra since you can have 3 solid chains of throwable ECMs if I did my math right.

Player 1-4 - Throwable - 6 seconds ea (24 seconds)
Player 1-4 - ECM Ea. (30 seconds ea = 120 seconds)
Player 1-4 - Throwable - 6 seconds ea (24 seconds)
Player 1-4 - ECM Ea. (30 seconds ea = 120 seconds)
Player 1-4 - Throwable - 6 seconds ea (24 seconds)

So roughly 312 seconds = 5 minutes 12 seconds

I think that's correct.. of course this assumes everyone gets the exact tail end (which never happens, so I'd say 4 to 5 minutes is the realistic expectation)

EDIT: Wait hold on... 2 get of the throwables? I misread that. If that's the case then I need to redo my math.

Player 1-4 - Throwable - 6 seconds ea x 2 (48 seconds)
Player 1 - ECM Ea. (30 seconds ea = 60 seconds) (player 1 will have 108 seconds passed so will rejuvinate 1 throable and cascade down)
Player 1-4 - Throwable - 6 seconds ea (24 seconds)
Player 2 - ECM Ea. (30 seconds ea = 60 seconds) (player 1 will have 108 seconds passed so will rejuvinate 1 throable and cascade down)
... Repeat 4 times going for Player 3 ECMs and Player 4 ECMs... (cept with 1 throwable each in a full rotation)

This is being super generous but if that's the case, it'll be 240 (full ECMs) + 48 (2 x throwables) + 72 ( 1 ea throwable)
So... 360. 6 Minutes (assuming full end of each so really 5 minutes to partial 5)

vvvv: Correct.

There's a spawn point in there.
