Just curious what town is he from in Western NC? I was born in that area. To be honest a lot of Western NC is cool. Tons of outdoor poo poo to do and Asheville is a great liberal haven. Also places like Boone and Blowing Rock are cool mountain towns. Still there are certain places in those mountains and foothills I stay far away from.

Waynesville, which is surprisingly built up now. It was a big deal when the McDonalds got built when he was in high school. Most of his family lives in Maggie Valley now though. A lot of them work/worked at Cherokee.

Brigsby Bear was great, thanks for the recommendation.

Can't believe I've never heard of Kyle Mooney before. Apparently most of his SNL sketches get cut for time but they're also great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6I9u3wjn-A

finished and no you shouldn't. I don't know who it's for, the average viewer watching for Jared Leto is going to be loving bored and if you like yakuza movies there's nothing there, just watch a real 50's yakuza movie instead. Leto is a blank white sheet with next to no character development or dialogue. his exposition through 2 hours is "he was in prison, and he was in the army". Asano's character is whatever as well besides that he speaks some english and I watched for the merit of him being in it. There is nothing interesting to look at, there is almost no musical score.
it's not entertainingly bad it's just boring and at it's best pedestrian. of course anyone could predict this without having to watch it.

the most impressive thing about it I guess is that a Danish director was able to shoot a Japanese film in Japan even if it's textbook and unimaginative and uninteresting. I don't know if that's worth congratulating. the first better example I can think of like that is The Raid where a Welsh director was able to make an Indonesian martial arts movie that had something stylistically going for it.

not sure how I typed this many words about it, even though it's not many but it merits less. I just read Takashi Miike was supposed to direct this originally, which would have made it worth my time probably.

anyone wondering if they should watch watch do not bother, watch this instead it's practically the truncated version

I bought a box set of 100 sci fi movies at Best Buy for 8 bucks and this movie is one of like 3 hidden gems on it. Another good one was the Brandon Lee vehicle LASER MISSION.

If you are a fan of cooking shows Nailed It is amazing. It's a bunch of bad amateur bakers who have to bake some artistically challenging baked goods in a short period of time. The results are pretty often disastrous and hilarious. I don't think I've cried watching a cooking show before, but both the 2nd and last episodes had me in tears.

Most of the production is done in Texas so it takes a ton longer than if it was done in Asia, since American animators don't work 120 hours a week for $3 a frame.

Because Warren Ellis doesn't really like him, mostly. Partly because Ellis is unaware that his name is actually supposed to be "Grant Danesti" and thinks "DaNasty" is the dumbest name ever.

Circle (2015) (the minimalist sci-fi horror about people trapped in a dark room) is actually quite good, by the way. I went into it expecting horrible tripe and was genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

I watched it a while ago and enjoyed it as well for what it was. Pretty minimalist, not mind blowing and low budget, but it kept moving. One of those indie films that reminds you of a stage play.

Just have him go ‘yeah I found this weird treasure map...’ I know the cast would be kind of bloated with all four, considering it was only four eps, but I always played as Grant when I was a kid, so I’m just kind of disappointed.

The thing that bummed me out about Nailed It was that Sylvia Weinstock (guest judge in episode one) wasn’t in every episode. She was absolutely darling!

The more I watched of Nailed It, the less I liked it.

To me, a goal of something like Weinstock's cake is more down to earth than the sushi or Trump cakes (although the final entry to that last one was a-loving-mazing). That first challenge seemed like it could go either way between success or failure and that's more interesting for me to watch than guaranteed failure.

And of course, the contestants being publicity whores. I know, it's reality TV, it should be expected, but it seemed more brazen/obvious with the later shows.

(The chick in episode 5 looked familiar; I'm almost positive that I've seen her in porn.)

Yeah, the biggest flaw in his reasoning is that the Danube flows right through Romania and was a large source of piracy and Varangian raids throughout the country.
