DUP: You're our bitch. Give us a special 12.5% tax status, but only for NI. That can only end well. quote:Among the issues the DUP were raising that were Northern Ireland-specific was a special corporation tax status for the region, possibly at a 12.5% rate. This is similar to the Irish Republic’s tax regime which has successfully attracted foreign direct investment to Ireland.

I pay less than half of that for my place which, although only a studio, is on ground floor with massive windows, a garden and a 15-min commute away from centre, so that rent is ridiculous. Beautiful.

Let's not abandon the UKMT's hope is a lie ethos until Jez has been elected and instituted an islamocommunist caliphate.

Incidentally, because I'm a naive idiot, I looked at it and thought "£455 a month for two people, in London? Christ, that's a bargain even if it has burnt down now, when I was living in Glasgow we were paying £550/month for a 2 bedroom!". Then I looked again and laughed. communism bitch posted:Private Eye does fantastic upper-class muckraking and exposes of corruption. Apart from that it's chaff, but it's well worth the subscription. The state of the housing situation in Britian right now is an absolute social catastrophe. It's one of the most pressing problems in the entire country. The cost of buying and renting are significant contributing factors to in-work poverty and to rising levels of homlessness. I can't think of many things more important to talk about than the disgusting cost associated with securing even the most sub-standard and wretched shelter in this shithole country.

Employed people can claim housing benefits. The biggest scam of the housing bubble is that the Tories have purposefully set it up with the dual intent of demonising the poor while simultaneously feeding taxpayers money into the pockets of landlords. (NB: the majority of Tory MPs are landlords.)

Borrovan posted:The housing crisis is severe enough that, without the green belt, entire communities and ecosystems could be devoured overnight. The real problem is inefficient use of land (unused buildings etc.). I don't know London very well but try having a gander at the price of flats in Bristol, then take a walk around Clifton and look at the size of the houses. I'm wondering if this problem might best be solved by eating some socio-economic demographic or another, but I can't quite put my finger in it. From that article about Kensington's new architect MP: Emma Dent Coad MP posted:""I strolled from Warwick Road down Kensington High Street and I photographed all the buildings to see if the lights are on," she said. "There is an entire block, bought by one family, and they are never there and it is completely empty.
