I would say a good part of what the Tories and DUP are discussing is to prevent these kind of budgetary shenanigans tbh

There's a lot of people who spend their days being being made miserable by the Job Centre, humiliated, made to feel worthless and then justify it all by watching "Scrounging Scum Vs the Bailiffs" on Channel 5 and decide the reason they're being treated like poo poo is because there are so many people out there taking the piss and they've been accidentally lumped in with them.

Much like how there are people on State Pensions and a winter fuel allowance who refuse to believe they're taking handouts and people who get DLA who refuse to believe that the majority getting it aren't faking scroungers. Because all of that is easier to accept than the idea that the people in power are talking about you when they're talking about scroungers. Because you are not a scrounger. So it must all be a mistake. A mistake that the scroungers are to blame for. Because if they weren't scrounging there wouldn't be a need to get the scroungers and you wouldn't have been caught in the crossfire.

Likely dozens of dead children all for the sake of the council or a developer saving a relatively paltry amount of money. It's a scandal, and the relative silence of a lot of Tory politicians speaks volumes.

Steve2911 posted:That just seems insane to me. Days? Very possible. Think of all the combustible materials inside those flats. To add, most if not all of the windows are now out, providing a constant supply of oxygen from the outside world into the building. In addition to this its a high rise, the wind blowing through those blown out windows will lap up any smouldering embers and potentially stir up further fires within the building, another problem LFB face after getting the main beast of the fire under control are further small pocket fires starting up again. The chap posting earlier and designated UKMT Fire Commissioner can explain it much better than me. Note: I am not a fire expert, this information is from knowledge I've picked up over time from sharing the odd smoke break with KFRS crew and general Major Incident guidance. The WTC towers were five times as tall as this, and they burned for months even after collapsing. Buildings are full of poo poo that burns, and fighting fires higher than ten stories up is extremely difficult for a myriad of reasons. Ladders can only be so long before they become impossible to move or stabilize, water is _very_ heavy, and as mentioned wind increases once you get out from the shelter of surrounding buildings. I wouldn't be surprised if the upper floors were still burning on and off this time next week.

Also remember that even after the fires stop, firefighters might need to assess whether its safe to ever go inside, as the fires could weaken it to the point of collapse (if it hasn't already by then).
