shadow puppet of a posted:I'm done with California pizza for now, but want to leave you all with this perfectly emblematic California style pizza from Frankie's in Mendocino called the "Virgin Creek". Its got it all. The absence of cheese, the hammered thin crust, the leaves, the copious black olives, the "carmelized" onions, the insulating bulwark of mushrooms. Its probably $38 too. Wonderful stuff. That looks amazing and lol at the "hammered thin crust", that's how pizza is supposed to be.

WeaklyInteracting posted:what if your burger could be a pizza I've had this, it was terrible despite Oetker usually cranking out a pretty passable frozen pizza. The pizza-bearing and bare bun half of it just go into the oven at the same time with the predictable result of either a soggy, still half frozen pizza or a rock-hard sawdust dry bun. Might be better if you disregard instructions and carefully tweak the oven times for each but if you're that prepared to put in actual effort why are you eating a frozen novelty pizza?

I had two conversations about this at the store register. Cashier: Oh, I saw this and I want to try it, let me know what it's like? Me: Will do. (one week later) Cashier: Did you try that pizza burger? Me: It's not very good. Cashier: Yeah, we hated it too.

I worked at a place that made really delicious pizza. We would often get orders that precluded us making a good pie. The "four seasons" Pizza that usually included prosciutto, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, olives, fresh tomatoes, with red sauce and mozz, finished with fresh basil, fresh parm, and olive oil. Youd get a ticket like this: FOUR SEASONS: VEGAN GF BASE NO OLIVES NO RED SAUCE SUB GARLIC WELL DONE CRUST so you end up making a burnt cheeseless garlic monstrosity.

I don’t know if it’s the worst pizza ever, but the most memorable bad pizza I ever had was cone shaped. Here’s someone else’s pic of a pizza cone and I believe some form of dessert monstrosity.

I'm guessing the 'dessert' is churros with chocolate sauce, which actually eating out of a hand held cone that acts as a dipping cup is a pretty good idea assuming the churros are decent. I'd be down for that.

Putting cold, raw ingredients on a pizza can absolutely work. It can create interesting contrasts and textures. I used to work at a place and we made a BLT pizza that just had bacon and cheese (no sauce) baked on. Hit it with mayo, lettuce and tomatoes after baking. It wasn't on the menu but we made it for us all the time.

Yeah, people should chill, it’s just a flatbread, put whatever you like on it. Personally I like the classic Neapolitan marinara - just tomato sauce and garlic on good dough.

Sweaty IT Nerd posted:Putting cold, raw ingredients on a pizza can absolutely work. It can create interesting contrasts and textures. There was a place here that did ALMOST the same thing except it was a cheese pizza w/light sauce and then rather than mayo, a thin spread of possibly cream cheese (it wasn't mayo, but it wasn't quite cream cheese. I'd say creme fresche almost but uh..not this place's style) and then topped with lettuce, tomato and chopped bacon. It was awesome. They did the same thing with a taco version except replaced the tomato sauce with taco sauce on the pizza, used mexi-blend cheese, and the bacon with 'american taco' style meat. Also better than you'd expect. Good with jalepenos.
