Son of Rodney posted:Gonna watch this movie, cyberpunk is cool as gently caress and there's too little of it recently. season 1 of psychopass is really, really good. season 2 is okay. patlabor the movie 1 is good, patlabor 2 is really good, a very smart political thriller (with occasional giant robots). unfortunately some new company got the rights for english distribution a few years ago and redid the original dubs, which were loving perfect. vampire hunter d bloodlust is a good fantasy film. it was written in english so the dialogue isn't quite as awkward as many animes.

theres a very specific artefact of bad writing when the writer knows that they need to get from point A to B to C but really don't have it thought out so they shoehorn in a usually incredibly specific throwaway mcguffin to bridge from A > B. then later when they've done that a few times they need to move the plot from B to C but realize theres all these bad explanations for why things are happening and it's becoming too convoluted - so to fix it they just take a previously used mcguffin and shoehorn it into the plot again. efficiency! some people call this 'world building' but if you're not a self-proclaimed bioware or anime fan you might call this 'bad writing'
