Meanwhile, in the 'call the cops' files:

Up until June of this year I was working with my now ex-employer (was supposed to be partner) at a body shop. The agreement was I provide the labor and he provides the capitol. profits split 50/50. I held up my end and worked 14 hours a day sometimes. saved a failing business and acquired contracts that provided steady income. He in turn compensated me by skimming the accounts and claiming we never made any money which lead to a disagreement and I left. The only problem is He never gave me my w-2(or 1099 whichever he claims I have) and now that I am trying to do taxes they are claiming I was paid much more than I actually was. I found out he was writing checks in my name. Cashing those checks and using the money to pay the other employees. ( through a check cashing place that knows us very well which is how I am assuming he was able to cash the checks)

I will greatly appreciate any and all help anyone can give me on this situation. I am fairly young and still learning which is why I was so ignorant to all this. Thank you again.

New college grad, wanting to buy a ~100k car - but I'm in a very weird financial situation.

To preface this, I came into a significant amount of money from a lawsuit in 2014. I'm trying to comprehend what exactly someone in my position should spend on something like a car.

Once I got the money I paid off all student loans I had, all of my debts, bought a home (bought for 305k, now worth 415k), and met with a financial advisor to put me on a correct path. I currently have a little over $300k in the bank, and I'm making a bit over 20k a year from my investments (around 7%).

My bills:
HOA dues total $360 a month
Property tax is nearing 2500 yearly
Phone bill is $70/month
Car insurance is $120/month
Utilities total $400 a month which is pretty high from what I can tell, but mostly because of some luxuries I like to have.

I just recently graduated college and yesterday received a job offer at 85k to start (software engineering) including a signing bonus. One thing I've always wanted in life was a nice, fast car. I know that's probably a terrible financial decision with how awful depreciation is and whatnot, but I've been severely eyeballing a used P100D for 108k, and after test driving one not too long ago, my mind is telling me to buy it.

So here's my question. How exactly do I distinguish how much money I should spend on a big ticket item when I own outright the other major big ticket item, my house?

For example, the 28% rule on housing and the 15% rule on transportation. Because I own the house outright, is spending up to 43% on transportation a terrible thing? I'd probably just pay in cash instead of financing (even though I'd be well under the 43%) considering I have the means, but is that even an advisable decision barring the whole depreciation thing for someone in my financial situation?

I appreciate any insight, thank you very much.

Yes he has the money to buy it, but it's still real dumb and that's the best kind of BWM because you're making fun of an idiot, not someone about to become homeless.

Lady runs out of gas and gets helped by a homeless vet, she sets up a GoFundMe for him that nets 400k, and now he's suing her and her boyfriend for the rest of the money they were 'holding' for him in a not sketchy personal account in their own names. It appears about $250k has been spent so far, but the vet spent two bouts in rehab so it's tough to tell if they're stealing from him or if he was sent off to really expensive rehab. They did give him $25k in cash that he spent in 13 days on a lot of drugs. So cool results all around that will probably end with a murder suicide.

Of note, the homeless guy wanted to buy his dream car, a 1999 Ford F150 - and they wouldn't even get that for him. Also if that's his dream car then there's a 100% chance lost his virginity in a 1999 Ford F150.

Murder-suicide is a bit much; the homeless guy will probably just overdose and die. I’m more impressed with raising that much in a GoFundMe effort for a random stranger doing a nice thing.

I think there may be some pretty serious tax implications from all this. GoFundMe will send you out a 1099-K and it's possible to transfer that (and it's liability) to another party, but that might be tough to do if you've spent any of the money.

Need help budgeting my life
https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/9c5ryt/need_help_budgeting_my_life/

Hello all,

I’m in desperate need of budgeting help - first I’ll start with background info on my situation. I’m in my early twenties, and am currently making about 66k a year in FL. I live in a house where bass rent without conservice fees is $1350, with utilities being around $200 a month. I have a basic phone plan of $80/mo, and have cut down on my spending on food, making it close to $150 a month.

I’m currently living with my boyfriend who is unable to contribute as much as originally planned due to frequent unemployment. Additionally, I owe about $40,000 in student loans which are entering repayment, as well as a $400 car note monthly.

I’m struggling to balance out everything and be able to live comfortably - the last thing I want to do is feel like I’m slaving away at work, with virtually no take home. Is this lifestyle even possible for me to sustain? Honestly I feel extremely overwhelmed by the entire situation, and with little financial support from my boyfriend, all the burden weighs on me.

If anyone has a plan or even simple suggestions for me I’d be extremely grateful. The stress of everything is definitely taking its toll.
Sounds like she identified the issue!

If they had just done a little overtime, maybe they could have made up for that, but nooooo that would put them in a higher tax bracket.

Florida woman could actually be okay on those numbers even with an unemployed boyfriend, assuming she doesn’t have a candle habit or lots of medical expenses. I really wonder what kind of place has a rent Ike that in FL unless she’s in a nice part of Miami or something. That’s like a pretty nice house in a lot of FL.

Totally. Especially if her boyfriend mustered the courage to make ~1k a month take home that would easily take the edge off.

Orlando rental rates for a one bedroom in safe part of town can reach $1350. You would be extremely lucky to get a 2bedroom for that price. Houses are way more than that. Miami is high as well and I don’t know about Tampa. Orlando home prices and rental rates have soared in the last 5 years or so. We had a friend that lived in a studio downtown that was paying $1750/mo a couple years ago and it’s only gone up from there.

There are professional sports bettors that make money, but it is mostly exploiting differences between betting houses and oversights (that are quickly corrected) like out of contention teams in the NBA not playing defense so players can pad their stats in contract years.

In that case it probably depends on with whom you’re betting and if they’re able to operate in the US. Just guessing here, but unless those sites are both going to be competitive with sites like Pinnacle in terms of vig and will actually let winners play, then the bettor still would still need to live abroad.
