The Raid 2 is a more complex ensemble gangster movie with several different factions betraying each other and a lot of characters to juggle at once. It's definitely not the perfectly streamlined experience that The Raid is but in it's own way it's an even better film. But to get the most out of it you really do have to stay focused on it in a way that The Raid doesn't require.

Also, by turning it off at the halfway point you missed out on at least 2 or 3 extremely good fight scenes.

Yeah I can't imagine turning Raid 2 off halfway through because then you miss that loving sick karambit fight

Outlaw King was pretty good, but I did not get the dick that the internet promised me. Also it felt like the story was too big for a 2 hour movie, maybe it should have been a 3 or 4 part mini series.

In the age of franchises and peak tv, it's almost refreshing having something just be a movie and that's it.

Outlaw King ended up being pretty decent. Didn't overstay its welcome but I couldn't help notice the editing was somewhat jarring. Note there sure is a lot of gory horse murder in that too if that's something you're not cool with. The ending battle scene really was fantastic.

That scene is insane, I love the timing of how Evans cuts away as Ruhian just goes to town on that dude's neck.

When he got mad he still got Mad though. I love that the big bad knows well enough to not even enter the club until the dude has chewed up like 20 guys, then once Sad Dog is basically bleeding to death already he steps in to finish it.

Maybe that's my biggest criticism of the movie though, it doesn't do enough to build up one central overwhelming villain the way The Raid does with Mad Dog. When Rama and The Assassin(he doesn't even get a name) finally have their showdown there's really not a whole lot to make me believe this guy has any shot against Rama.

Badlands is up for streaming on Prime. If you haven't seen it, it's one of my favorite movies and probably the best entry point into Terrence Malick's filmography, and is about as beautifully shot and transcendent as you can imagine a movie about a pair of spree killers could possibly be.

Count me as another that really liked Outlaw King. I appreciated the way they tried to emphasize Robert the Bruce as a thoughtful tactician in most cases as opposed to a William Wallace shouty "Freedom!" type.

Finally started watching Sabrina, and I kind of like it. Some of the subplots with the friends are just bad (I’m only 4 episodes in), and the video quality might be the worst I have seen on Netflix. Shame because the imagery of the show is A+. I have to give them credit for embracing so much evil, while balancing Sabrina as a good person too. To be honest I am not sure if I would be watching it wasn’t evil. Also I might be giving it bonus points due to how much I respected Kiernan Shipka’s performance as Sally Draper. That said I am not the target audience for this (I think Riverdale went from just ok to garbage in season 2), but I’m enjoying it.

I think it's still a little bit too self-conscious. That said at the end of season 1 they tease familiars talking so the audience can understand them and that's a big (if symbolic) step in the right direction if they follow through, so I'm still on board for more.

do you mean the resolution or the way they purposefully made the outside edges of the frame blurry sometimes? both are bad imo. like were they trying to give certain scenes a dreamlike quality? it was very distracting.

Both. It was so bad resolution wise that at times I thought my internet was lagging or something, and my AppleTV was downgrading the quality to keep it from buffering. After doing a test on other shows I realized it was just Sabrina. It was like someone just discovered their first photo editing app, and went out of control with the filters, like in the early days of Instagram.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!
I didn't like the Sabrina show at all, despite every intention of enjoying it going in. I strongly dislike the lead and the episodes are way too loving long. The writing feels really inorganic and cute and I loving loathe the "witch trials killed real, actual witches" cliche of modern witch TV shows.

I think I would have been better served watching later-era Supernatural and that's just sad.

Just got into The Great British Baking Show and have been burning through it with the wife; it’s great.

Are there any other shows on streaming similar to this that are low stakes and basically good natured in the competition? Doesn’t have to be baking-related (I didn’t really even care about baking before watching tbh), I just enjoy how basically everyone gets along, there’s very little drama, and the prize is just doing the thing well.

We liked Nailed It on Netflix. Pretty simple but fun.

We really liked Making It on NBC (Hulu too?) It has a similar format to British Baking applied to arts/crafts/interior design/etc. Amy Pohler and Nick Offerman host.
