Well when a dude has so much money he will literally die before he can spend it all, that's the sort of thing that's going to happen. You got nothing to do but build expensive collections.

I'd like to say I'd be content with enough money to buy ~5 of my all time favorite cars, but I think we all know that's not how it works. Once you get enough money for something like that, you always want just a little bit more.

The difference between the guy living in a trailer and driving a 20-year old Dodge and the guy who splits his time between his yacht in the Med and his homes in Switzerland, Spain, and Italy; and drives one of the 20+ >1 Million dollars cars he owns (depending on his mood) is the amount of motivation and success they've had during their quest to have it all.

The only people who don't want more than they have are the people who have embraced their situations rather than trying to improve their positions. And you generally don't find those sorts of people until you get to the 2nd or 3rd generation rich, or first-generation surprise-rich folks.

EDIT: In other words, people will expand their tastes and lifestyles to fit what their budget allows. Some people don't even limit themselves to what their budget allows (hello, credit!). 10K/yr or 10M/yr, that money is going somewhere.

Yes, motivation and success is the only thing separating the weak from the amazing glorious rich people. That's how the world works and it is quite fair and just. Just look at me I came from the mud and am rich now, everyone should be able to do that!

I think my ideal would be having the money for the cars, but having some kind of rental system. Let someone else worry about the care and maintenance piece, I just rent a classic or a muscle car for a day and cruise around without the concern for extra expense like special insurance coverage or having to buy/construct a building to store a collection.

This is a thing. Just Google "exotic car share membership" or something similar. There are loads (well, several at least) of them around.

Seriously. It's too bad too, F1 cars are AMAZING, but when the only sense of speed you have is within a +/-7% window of performance- the leaders over the backmarkers-, something gets lost in translation.

If only every race could capture the same 'holy poo poo, those things are *THAT* fast?!?!' factor as this video.

DARKEST SKETCH

From the article linked in the comments:

quote:

Since these cars came from a time before the rules came into play, what left the factory with a 1.5-liter V-Twin could end up with a 8.2-liter Curtiss V8 for racing, while something with a bigger chassis had no problem hauling a 10, 16.5 or 24.5 liter aero-engine up front either.

Except that the overlay shows the vidoes are shot by different cameras and lenses from a similar spot and dont show it well enough.

Don't get me wrong, i was in Melbourne for the F1 last weekend and the speed difference is amazing. The carrera cup cars were doing a 2 minute lap in the race and the F1 was about 30 seconds a lap faster.

Also for consideration, the F1 would be seconds faster with hot tires.
