Avenging_Mikon posted:The enforcement of a toxx is "do thing or eat a ban." I was under the impression that these gamers were just eating the ban? That's literally the enforcement already going on. True, the bans are being enforced, but in most cases a Toxx is "do I keep my account no problem or eat :tenbux: if I lose" and in this case it's "do I get $60 of games if I win or do I have to give away $60 of games if I lose" so it's pretty lovely that people have the option to replace "$60 of Steam games" with "a $10 re-reg," which is why I was suggesting a perma for people who don't pony up. The guy who actually won is being pretty cool about the whole thing (including being the first to be "hey my Toxx was Trump-based but please let's not derail the Steam Games thread with Trump talk") and I don't doubt that he would have paid up if he had lost. e: a good idea (already mentioned) would be to ban the welchers 6 times each. A better idea would be to permaban them unless they donated $60 to a human/civil rights organization like that one guy in D&D Snow Cone Capone has a new favorite as of 19:39 on Nov 10, 2016 |

I remember there was some thread a few years ago where some goon was selling some kind of "technically" legal drugs called Juice or Sauce or something. Turns out the drug makes you black out for several days, at which point people would wake to find them having lost their job, their car, their girlfriend, all manner of crazy stuff that none of them remembered. That was a great thread in the "moments of goon stupidity" category. Edit: Joose, thanks saclopedia. Fish Of Doom has a new favorite as of 19:52 on Nov 10, 2016 |

Solice Kirsk posted:Is that the same drug that one goon described as, "A teleporter that beams you to the emergency room?" I think it might have been. Some of the stories were just "I bought weird stuff on ebay", but I remember one person waking in a hospital, getting released, finding their totaled car, and then taking the drug again, waking up in the hospital again. I can't find the exact quote, but he said it was the Ocarina of Time where it just teleports you into a hospital.

Wintermutant posted:Since that Toxx thread is extremely long, what's the deal? I get the Steam Toxx drama, but were they just not going to enforce Hillary Toxxes or what? Toxxed for Bernie: get banned the night before the official results of the DNC are announced Toxxed for Trump: get your toxx retroactively upgraded by mod to a permaban unless you renounce Trump and all his works, in which case the toxx goes away and you get a 30 day probation instead Toxxed for Hillary (in TFR): get your toxx applied immediately Toxxed for Hillary (in D&D): have your regular toxx vanish completely, or your permatoxx reduced to a regular ban, if you give money to a charity. Also apparently it is less work to go through the toxx thread and the donation thread crosschecking who toxxed and then later donated in order to avoid a ban, than it is to just go through the toxx thread to apply the bans. Also also, it is good and cool that the reregistration money that would have gone to Lowtax for forum upgrades is now arbitrarily going to a charity chosen by the mod instead, because reasons, and if you disagree with that you are an evil rape apologist and should be ashamed of yourself

It's not easy trying to find a silver lining in these clouds, but it smokes out some people who'll refuse to honor their bets just because they lost. Trump threatened to do the same thing, and that isn't bad just because Trump is a shithead, Trump is shithead for threatening to do things like that. "This is bad except when I do it because I'm a good guy" is extremely loving and is the sort of mindset that got him elected. Don't allow them to disgrace Clinton and Sanders by becoming the LIARS 4 HILLARY or COWARDS 4 BERNIE in a goddamn ben garrison cartoon This may turn out to be a disastrous event in US history, but its really pretty tame as far as forum election sagas go: aahahaha paradol ex

For context of the mod's decision, at that moment suicide hotlines were being posted across the debate forums and people were freaking out enough as it was, so maybe it was in the community's best interests to give in to the Hillary Toxxers' need for a few moments to step back, take stock, and accept their public ban-hammering at the town square's ban-anvil. Lowtax, the ever-elected POTSAF, has held true to his vow to make great again.

Syd Midnight posted:aahahaha paradol ex paradol ex was such a weird poster, and it was always an amazing mental roller coaster when i would read his posts and try to follow his thought process. the first couple threads i came across where he was arguing with someone, it was crazy because he would sometimes go for many posts where it seemed like he was rhetorically building up to a very obvious conclusion, and then he would lurch in a completely different direction that he hadn't hinted at at all. like he'd go on and on about how obama was a terrible candidate who nobody should support, and would crash and burn to clinton/giuliani/mccain, because all of these reasons that sounded like a succession of typical right-wing talking points, and then the conclusion would be like AND IM A SOCIALIST AND IM NOT VOTING or some other off the wall thing that only had a tiny semblance of internally-consistent logic. then he got banned and bought a parachute account. iirc how it happened, he stopped posting his usual talking points, so it wasn't immediately obvious it was him, but he still had kind of the same writing style. so eventually some goon quoted him in a thread saying like "wow this could almost be a pex post lol" to which he angrily responded that it indeed was him and from then on went back to posting about his favorite topics from before. he also made this huge post about trying to come to grips with that one pro wrestler who did the murder-suicide to his family (the wrestler's). probably my favorite thing of his was his pet insult name for barack obama, who he called "baquack obamailure". for a long time goons would use this "-ailure" construction to jokingly insult people, which i enjoyed. for example, to make fun of a long-suffering duke nukem fan, you might go "lol look at this dukeailure still waiting for their childrens toy". the dumber-sounding and less-pronounceable you could make the word by your placement of the -ailure, the better

# ? Nov 12, 2016 02:42 |

Yeah the -ailure suffix really had legs. Mostly ironic, but also sincere. It's just catchy as hell to say. I can't believe I didn't see anybody say Trumpailures or Hillailures Hillaryail Hillaylu. I guess that's why

One thing with fishing - if you're up against one of the ones that like to jerk around really violently, when they're having a chill moment don't put the middle of the bar over them. If they're high, put them at the top of the catch zone and if they're low put them at the bottom of it. That way when they move again they have to move through the bar and it gives you a little more time to react. Also Trap Bobber is the only tackle worth using imo. e: wrong thread I Said No has a new favorite as of 09:41 on Nov 12, 2016 |
