It was originally banned from almost every platform because someone found out there was a placeholder texture that made fun of Xi Jinping and China got extremely mad about it and started a campaign back in June of 2019 to get it delisted The studio went dark for over a year and came back with this and I guess GOG was given a call by the state and cancelled the release

Also appears to be the case in this instance I have no idea what cdprojekt was expecting, the most cursory research on the game would have predicted this

Sales have cratered now that people, especially Xbone and PS4 owners, are seeing how poorly it's running. https://www.gameinformer.com/2020/12/15/cdpr-conference-call-reveals-last-gen-cyberpunk-2077-neglect-no-refund-agreement-in quote:Investors on the call were then able to ask questions, asking what happened to make sales decrease so much in a span of just four days, especially so for last-gen consoles. Nielubowwicz said that despite doing "good initial sales," the fact that last-gen versions were seemingly left in the dust caused that dramatic pivot. Nowakowski added that "throwing more [developers] at it" would not have made the quality of the last-gen version any better, and the the team is still "collecting data" regarding all of the reasons behind the decline.

Why do game publishers keep having to learn about the Streisand Effect? Did they really think a tweet like that would go unnoticed?

So I was watching somebody play Cyberpunk and a character made an anti capitalist rant Keanu Reevs lol. Is the writer for real or this is a dumb Fight Club Anarchist thing? Also the game has full blown Chinese dialogue dub, I need to watch a Chinese playthrough when I get around to it and see of they cut out the sex scenes. This game is so horny. stephenthinkpad has issued a correction as of 00:11 on Dec 17, 2020 |

Cyberpunk as a genre is basically rooted in the idea that while capitalism sucks, there is no alternative. So as a political statement, cyberpunk works aren't all that threatening to capitalism.

I think these 3 news are related and can be discussed together. 1. PWS Anderson and his wife's awful video game movie Monster Hunter include a very unfunny joke about knees and chinese in a dialogue spoken by an Asian actor. The "movie" was even funded by Tencent, why was this not cut out I will never know. The CCP got wind of the this and promptly cancel its theatrical showing. 2. A Taiwanese game Devotion included a Xi Jinping easter egg joke? Got taken down from Steam 1 years ago. It was put on GOG for like 4 hours and quickly taken down after Chinese gamer unleashed the internet fury. I don't want to sound like an apologizer but they should have changed the name of the studio and the game and regroup. 3. Asus partnered with hololive to promote a ROG related gear yesterday, since Hololive got out of China due to a vtuber anti-Chinese comments? (I refuse to get to the bottom of this because its about vtubers), Chinese vbuter fans engaged and Asus cancelled the promote after a few hours. stephenthinkpad has issued a correction as of 15:04 on Dec 17, 2020 |

Chinese netizens flipped out about it. According to some chinese vtuber fans, the whole platform has been doing "passive aggressive apologies" over various incidents. I ain't going to watch some vtube video to verify it. I do think a platform (a business with actual office space and payroll) letting one of its talent/performers use "gently caress u never come back" as a way to end the relationship with an entire market is very strange. I mean you are not a solo uploader. People are going to hold this grudge against you for many years. Dspgaming's haters still gently caress with him online after so many years.

The antis are horrible poo poo and most of the hate they get is specifically from china, some of the more popular girls have straight up said "You make me do a direct apology to these fuckers and I'll quit". Like one of the girls had the gal to show a video from the chinese equivalent of youtube one time and they started flaming her and sending her pictures of dead rabbits (the vtuber is a rabbit girl) The company basically decided to sever most of their reach in china because they weren't growing fast enough there and couldn't leverage the main strength of the company, which is doing collaborations with the rest of their talent. Instead the expanded to the west and they are doing significantly better.
