The funny thing is that the first specials that made up the first two segments of the Digimon Movie are both pretty well animated and look great. It's a shame that they couldn't just adapt all three specials and release them on DVD/VHS as a special thing like what would have been smarter (and probably much easier also) instead of all the effort of trying to cut three separate projects into one Frankenstein's monster film.

I might be misremembering though. For what it's worth, however, the Digimon Tri movies have been pretty drat good so far, primarily because they're being made for the original fanbase who are now in their mid 20s to early 30s and they're consciously taking 15 years worth of accumulated fandom into account in the process.. Just don't go into the ADTRW Digimon thread, it's a garbage fire.

Every anime director that breaks out to the west always gets hailed as the "next Miyazaki", it's kinda funny and also somehow implies that the only thing that defines these directors is their objective traits. Apparently the only thing notable about Miyazaki is that he's Japanese and makes animated movies

Thread move fast. Bakeneko posted:The problem with this idea is that it relies on the presence of an AI that can accurately judge what the player is thinking. A real teammate could do all of that because they have a real human brain; a more linear game could fake it using scripted events, but a sandbox like MGSV has to rely on some amount of direct player control because video game AI just isn't that good yet. quote:On that same sort of thought, characters who just critique you and then go "No I'm gonna do this instead" tend to get really grating, really quickly, no matter what or who they are. These are both correct rebuttals. It's a good job I'm not a game designer! :P Honestly, I can't think of a good way to handle the fact that Quiet can literally be swapped out for a horse. Perhaps removing that limitation could help. If there's one game mechanic that I can't get my head around it's that the deserts of Afghanistan appears to be a dimension in which a dog and a horse allied to the Diamond Dogs cannot exist at the same time. quote:And what exactly have I gotten “target-locked” on? I made a comment about one little part of the video, someone responded to my comment, and the discussion progressed from there. Most of the stuff in the video I didn't comment on because I thought it was fine. You're right. It's me who got target-locked. I maintain that Quiet belongs alongside Alyx, Yorda & co as she is still a female character used as a tool. Even moreso due to her deliberate silencing, sexualised design and utter lack of in-game independent action. The fact that she is not part of an escort mission does not invalidate her inclusion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqnF5fnxQ5w I want people to watch this just so more people can appreciate Sages use of "Lawnmower-mon".

It is but it will only go away if more anime movies show up in America that are both A) good and B) scratch a different itch than the sort of mix of visual wonder and re-enforcement of romantic ideals that good mainstream anime movies tend to focus on.

Gets brainwashed into cult. (Except it's a good thing!) Good Hook: God's Country - Part 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ0-hBJZjms Good Hook: Pieces of Easter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f27zjBZ3AK4 Uptight business exec woman must rely on loner country guy to drive her across country to get home for Good Hook: The Lion of Judah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyWr1BZF3r0 Insane CGI talking-animals perspective of the crucifixion. FOR KIDS! ... So, all the time my wife and I watch his videos, we're always like "it's really hard to tell what his actual personal religious background and beliefs are". He never really goes into it, and never really comes down "ANGRY MOVIE REVIEWER" hard on pro-or-anti religion (which is one of the endearing things about his videos). And then about halfway through the Pieces of Easter video... well, we got our question answered... He's ex LDS who either fled or was excommunicated for daring to recognize that it's a brainwashing cult who uses fear and punishment to keep people scared and in line and obeying THE ELDERS, to the point of suppressing basic human desires and needs like love, want or freedom of choice. There's a solid, ad-libbed rant about his personal experiences in the middle, including mentioned that he's lost people he loved back to the clutches of the church, that effectively spend a year torturing, brainwashing, and disappearing people who "want to return".

Not sure if its been discussed, but RLM's commentary for Rogue One is a great listen, if partially ironically. Things Mike Stoklasa can't understand about movies: the main character being upset that the "save your dad" mission was actually a "kill your dad" mission, and why the bad guys would shoot all the Death Star's creators after one of them confessed to being a mole.

I skipped the other 2 times they took a poo poo on it. I really like the movie. I'm not sure what new insights I'll get from them at this point.
