Also, watching the Pacific has led me into the rabbit hole of reading Robert Leckie's histories of WWII in the pacific. FYI, Robert Leckie is one of the people the camera follows through the war (Lucky Leckie) and his histories were a large part of the basis for The Pacific.

Really, if you haven't read "Helmet for My Pillow" you really should. It's a very well told, privates eye view of the Guadalcanal campaign.

Didn't they tone down his exploits during Guadalcanal in the show since nobody would believe it otherwise? Both are great shows and I assume everyone in this thread has seen them but if not, highly recommended.

I loved AoE III too, it did some cool things (like the pre 18th centry English accent that sadly didn't change with the times and got a bit weird for me) so I do hope they are going to be just as experimental with the formula.
