Yeah I don't get it. It's nearly universal here that you have a fence separating your property from neighbours (unless you live in a unit/townhouse, in which case you usually don't have much of a yard anyway). You might not always have a front fence, but I've never seen a property here that doesn't have a fence separating properties along their boundaries on sides and back. But in the US there seems to be a lot of places where there's nothing stopping you wandering onto your neighbours property or getting into disputes over mowing lawns etc.

The OP has a 3 acre property. It's not common to fence in small/intermediate sized properties that aren't being used for livestock in the US.

(and I know that the terms I used for size are a land mine: I'm talking about rural or exurban properties)

He never moved out and is very close with his mother. I stop being a sugar baby for him and I’m getting fed up. He wants me to cook for him .... which I don’t mind but since it’s 4 other people living in the house he’s saying I have to cook for everybody if I do cook. I feel like I shouldn’t! I’m not buying food to cook for a family I’m buying food to cook for us. Cooking for all his little brothers and his mom the food won’t even last one night for leftovers!!! He don’t even deserve my cooking. Same with wanting me to clean but his house is FILTHY. His family is so dirty and they’ve been that way for since I met him when he was 15 (roaches, mice, mouse chatter from eating the styrofoam of days old food, dirty clothes everywhere, old food/dishes in the bedroom etc) I come from a CLEAN HOME AND BACKGROUND! NEVER HAD MICE OR ROACH PROBLEM!!! I don’t feel like I should clean WHEN HE DOESNT EVEN CLEAN UP AFTER HIMSELF! WHY SHOULD I CLEAN AFTER A GROWN MAN WHO DOESNT CLEAN AFTER HIMSELF!!???? If I clean he won’t even keep it up because he’s dirty! I’m not the type to cook or clean for men. I feel like I am the prize and men should cater to me (thus me being a sugar baby for so long) it’s not even like he’s doing anything extravagant for me to be cooking and cleaning. Last week he said I spent $400 this week on us, it’s like I didn’t get any of that. It’s not like we’re going to expensive restaurants like Ruth Chris, STK, R2L .... it’s Chile’s and super overpriced drinks, and little hood bars. If he gave me $400 to go towards the tuition that I am now paying myself since I’m stopped sugaring, I wouldn’t mind bc money is actually being use to something useful. (He knows this & knows I stopped sugaring for the sake of our relationship) I’m a girlfriend not a wife. When talking to my mom idk how the conversation came about but she said “he still live with his mom?!😕🤨” she sounded really disappointed because she know I can do better. He’s a great guy and I love him dearly but idk what to do. Am I wrong for feeling this way? Over the years I’ve been exposed to different people and life situations that caused me to level up and he’s still in the same space, so I guess you can say I’ve changed. He’s sensitive and gets defensive easily. Idk what to do. Of course I should leave but that’s easier said then done!! I don’t want to sound ungrateful I’m thankful for everything he does for me. Am I wrong for feeling this type of way?

Never met anyone who got a DUI that didn't have an excuse for why it's not 100% their fault.

Stop drinking at work seems like it would solve a lot of problems in this person's life.

Sounds to me like she’s really Going Through It, and is probably an alcoholic who hasn’t admitted it yet/ has other brain problems she’s not dealing with. DUIs are obviously inexcusable, but I find it totally believable that a predatory boss (bar manager) would drug someone who is obviously near their rock bottom and therefore vulnerable.

AITA for lying to my wife (then GF) about my politics to get her and her family to like me?

This started years ago when I first started dating my wife. We had mutual friends, so I knew that we had different beliefs in a lot of areas. It wasn't an issue for me but I was afraid that it would be for my wife, so I pretended to share her same beliefs when they were brought up for discussion. I didn't feel good about lying to her and wanted to tell her the truth (always planned to at some point), but it seemed like there was never a good time. Then I met her family and they also had the same strong convictions. I wanted them to like me for the sake of my wife whom by that point I saw as a long term partner/potential spouse, so I kept lying.

I thought at some point maybe I could gradually open up, but the time never came. We eventually married and now have three (soon to be four) kids.

A friend of mine is running for a state office and asked me to assist with his campaign recently. I told my wife I was planning to help and she could not understand why I would want to be associated with his positions when he is the polar opposite to "us." I tried to explain it in many different ways, but she would not let it go so finally I came clean and admitted I was fine with helping him because I shared his views.

It's out now and everyone has taken it surprisingly well other than my wife. She has been the least understanding.

I can understand the shock, but after 15 years of marriage and three (soon to be four) kids, she knows that I love her and our family. To me that is what is really important. I also think that what I did was understandable since I was still a young kid at the time and was scared/didn't know how to handle the situation. Her family can be intimidating, and I knew how much it would mean to her if they liked me. I don't think I am TA - just someone that made a few bad decisions in a misguided attempt to impress my wife and her family. I have tried framing it that way for my wife but she sees what I did as an almost malicious act. Am I TA?

AITA for getting mad at my husband for financially shaming me in public?

Backstory - my husband and I make a relatively good combined income (six figures) we both work full time, and he makes about 25% more than I do (if it matters, we made the same amount until recently) we share our money and all of the expenses are paid out of our joint account.

When we are out and my husband takes out his debit card to pay, he likes to make jokes that imply that I am a gold digger like “I guess I’ll treat you again” or “I didn’t realize we were made of money.” Last weekend it was when we were out with some friends and he made one of his sarcastic remarks and I said “don’t do that, I don’t like it.” He said it’s obviously just a joke but I said that random people in public do not know that it’s a joke, I don’t appreciate it.

Yesterday we went out for dinner with friends and I ordered a pitcher of Stella to share with my husband, and he again said “I didn’t realize we were made of money” in front of our friends and the server. Today I’m mad at him because he ignored my request for him to not do that anymore. He says it’s just a harmless joke, and he doesn’t realize when he is doing it since it’s not a big deal.

It feels like a big deal to me, I’m not trying to come across as insecure here, and I realize he isn’t saying it with malicious intent. So, AITA here?

WIBTA if I outted my sister’s lie to my parents and made them aware that she failed her first semester of college?

My parents have been harping on my for my grades for the past few days. My previous semester average was a 3.75 but due to personal and mental health reasons, I ended this semester with a 2.9.

Meanwhile my sister just had her first semester. She was adamant that she was gonna fail ALL year. In fact (relevant later), my boyfriend tutored her for her final exam and later told me that “there is absolutely no way she will be able to pass. She doesn’t even know the basic fundamental concepts of the class”. So when my sister showed my mom her 3.4 this semester, needless to say I was very suspicious.

Well after 3 days of my parents making GBS threads on my because of my mediocre grades and praising my sister on how well she did, I decided to actually seek it out for myself. I logged into her student portal (she uses the same password for everything so it wasn’t that hard to guess) and like I guessed, her grades was NOT what she’s been bragging about. She actually ended up passing the class my boyfriend tutored her in (with a C-), outright failing another class, and with the rest of her mediocre grades, she ended up with a 1.5. With such low scores, she will undoubtably be on academic probation, which can affect her financial aid (we currently have a family contribution of $0 due to being low income, but that can change if she doesn’t bring her grades up). I asked my sister to show me her transcript and she sent me the same transcript she sent to our mom (in other words, it was photoshopped).

I’m wondering if I’d be TA for ratting her out? I’m pissed that I’m being talked down to all weekend while my sister is receiving praise. Not to mention I think photoshopping your grades is just outright wrong. At the same time, idk if it would be petty of me, or justified. And if I would be TA, WIBTA if I gave her an ultimatum to tell the truth or I will?

AITA for 'ruining' my mums favourite movie?

My mum watches the king and I every christmas and I was sick today so sat and watched it with her and I pointed out that the Asian protagonists are not asian and in fact a russian guy and an american guy (whom I noticed first) with asian makeup and accents and she got very annoyed and said I have ruined the movie for her and that I look into everything too much? It genuinely wasnt said in a lovely, looking down upon way

Should I apologise?

EDIT: I only said it because I was thinking that the guy didnt look asian and there was a particular scene when I recognised the actual actor whom it was without make-up and that would be problematic if it was done in a movie nowadays, I didnt really think and said it.

Double Edit: Considering its her favourite movie she got distracted by something else and when my dad mentioned the king dying at the end she was like WHAT HE DIES? And rewinded it back?

Even within the Midwest there are reasonably priced homes that are... I dont want to say a good place because the Midwest isn't good. But there are better and worse places in the region. It's not five million acres of nothing but corn and rust.

In fact, they’ve probably been doing that to her her whole life, while you’ve been the “good” one. Your beef isn’t with your sister, and you would definitely be the rear end in a top hat.

I think anyone can see how that might make a person feel bad. AITA for not letting my husband drive my car after leaving it running and unlocked while we were eating breakfast at Denny’s?

This morning my husband, sister, and niece all went to Dennys for breakfast and my husband drove us there. While we were getting out of the car he went to the trunk to get something and then I asked him to grab me some shoes to change into from the trunk as well. We had just come back from a hike and we were all pretty tired and sore. Then we all went to breakfast and as we were walking out he asks me where the keys are. I told him, “I don’t have them, you drove”. He goes back into the restaurant to check if he left them on the table we ate at and I checked my purse just to be sure I didn’t have them. When he came back out sans keys, we go to the car parked in the parking lot. The keys are not only in the ignition, the car is running and unlocked. We had been at breakfast for at least an hour. He laughed and said he was sorry, saying it was “an honest mistake.”

This car is a pretty much a brand new 2018 Toyota Camry that I just got a few months ago in my name. I drove us home and then told him that I didn’t feel comfortable with him driving it because he didn’t seem to take it seriously that he jeopardized the most expensive thing I own and my only mode of transportation. Now he’s upset with me. AITA for not wanting him to drive it for awhile?

AITA for finding out that my dad's new marriage started as an affair and for meeting my stepsister and telling her?

My mom died from her 2-year fight with cancer 3 years ago (Jan 2016). Our family was heartbroken. After she died, my dad quickly got rid of all of her things (before my brother and I had a chance to keep memorabilia), sold the house, and GTFO soon after. He moved in with a "roommate".

It was obvious he was living with his new GF - we always met at the restaurant and he never even gave us the exact address of where he lived. Instead he would meet us as a SBUX (!!) to pick up gifts, etc. I mean, it was OBVIOUS he was dating someone new, but whatever he'll tell us when he's ready.

FF 1.5 yrs (~June 2018). My bro's family, my dad, and I were having family dinner as usual. My dad tells us he married a woman around a year ago (~June 2017). My mom died Jan 2016. So I was surprised they got married (vs just living together), but I figure, he's in his 60s, maybe he fell in love quickly, YOLO'ed and got married. I was surprised but was happy for him and met his new wife. Over our dinner she told me that her daughter was my age and worked near my office.

I talked to a friend of mine after, who worked at the same company as new stepsister. My friend said, "Oh I'll find out who she is! What's her name?" I told her, "Actually I don't know her first name. Her last name is [Smith] and her mom lives in [Hometown]". My friend jokingly said, "Oh my friend Jane Smith's mom is from Hometown, maybe it's her, LOL - JK" and then send me Jane's IG post of her mom's city hall wedding with... MY DAD.

I WAS FLOORED. I told my friend that WAS my dad. My friend was SHOCKED and immediately reached out to Jane to tell her about this. Jane's post was from June of 2016, NOT 2017 like my dad said. This means that he got remarried 6 months after my mom died.

Jane reached out to me to meet for coffee, so I did. I asked her how long my dad was he family's lives and she said about 10 YEARS! She said her mom told her and her brother that my mom died 10 years ago and my brother and I were still not ready to accept her as my dad's new girlfriend. I told her that I just found out about her/her brother ~1 week ago and that my mother passed away 6 months before they got married. She was surprised to hear this as well.

Jane confronted her mom about this, and her mom admitted that she and my dad lied to Jane and her brother about my dad's martial status and my mother's death.

Long story short, Jane is no longer speaking to her mom, I am not speaking to my dad, and my brother and dad blame me for basically ruining the family. My brother who, initially was VERY ANGRY about the situation, has now done a 180 and does bible study with them.

Dad/New Wife never apologized or talked to us about the situation. Instead, I'm TA for finding out about their affair, then meeting Jane, correcting her about the timeline, and telling my brother what happened. I'm being blamed for surfacing up the drama and the reason why Jane is no longer speaking to her mother.

AITA?

Here, have a story about the gigantic piece of poo poo cheating on his dying wife, and the absolute doormat/jackass of a son who has the guts to defend him after being lied to in the face wrt dad's new gf and having all the keepsakes of his dead mother + family home sold under his nose. Here, have a story about the gigantic piece of poo poo cheating on his dying wife, and the absolute doormat/jackass of a son who has the guts to defend him after being lied to in the face wrt dad's new gf and having all the keepsakes of his dead mother + family home sold under his nose. Holy gently caress, I don't think severing is enough here. :killing:

And yeah, if someone drove off with it, insurance wouldn't cover it.

I (18 F) and I found out (8) yr old brother was searching something on my phone

Hey, some of you might find this stupid but hear me out. I don’t really like confrontation, however, today I found my brother searching up something in my phone and I wanted my phone back. He refused to give it to me but I took it forcefully anyways. I looked at what he was searching up and yes, I can see why he didn’t want to give it back.

Now a brief context, my brother plays roblox. LIKE A LOT. I suspect he was influenced by the people in it but this is what he was searching; “gay sex roblox”, I was kinda shocked and I found it really funny at first but later realised that it’s alarming.

Should I be really worried? Should I do something about it? What should I do then?

I can’t really tell my parents as they’re both religious and my dad teases my brother of being gay. Look, I love my brother a lot and I don’t know what’s happening to him.

Should I stop him from playing roblox?
