I recall Christopher Duntsch being mentioned briefly in this thread and wanted to circle back to him a bit. In case you don't remember he's the neurosurgeon who botched almost every one of the 30+ surgeries he performed, in two cases straight up causing the death of his patient, and stayed bouncing around Texas hospitals doing hella drugs and crippling people for years until he was finally caught. Anyway, I recently listened to a podcast about him and how/why exactly he was allowed to do what he did and I hope it counts for this thread. It was super upsetting for me to listen to, especially since I was recovering from a pretty routine surgery myself when it was recommended to me.

I'm barely into the first episode and I feel like I want to die.

Thanks! I look forward to listening to it in 5 minute chunks, or whatever the audio equivalent of watching a horror movie thru partially covered eyes is.

I'm going to guess that the terms that they illustrate in the article are the ones that MS cleaned up before going to press.

Regardless, that's hosed up.

Why do people make false confessions to things like that, anyhow? Is it just for their fifteen minutes of fame? Mental illness? For the life of me, I cannot even begin to imagine why you would do that. Won't the cops eventually figure out that you didn't do it?

Hi. We have this rape victim, and her accused attacker. I think the best thing to do is put them in a room together and let him intimidate and browbeat her directly, and sort of cut out the middleman. This is exactly the same as how courts work, which is why accused rapists and murderers are routinely allowed direct access to their “victims” during court proceedings.

I've been sitting in on harassment court in the U.S., a lot recently. Where one party is trying to bring a restraining order on the other party. I've been really impressed at how hardcore the judges are about "nobody here can talk to anybody else here." It might be local (Pacific Northwest), but I've admired how much the judges prevent the two parties from talking to each other.

I think it's usually just mental illness. In some cases I think it might just be people wanting to have their name go down in history but have no other opportunities. That isn't even a new idea.

He wasn't a serial killer, though he admitted to killing one person in an armed robbery before he kidnapped Marion.

The description of exactly how Marion Parker's father got his daughter back is :nms: levels of miserably grim; galaxy-brains Hickman must have decided to kill her and dispose of her body, then changed his mind and reckoned he could still grab the loot and make his escape. Poor little kid.

It felt creepy to me as well. The surgeon went in through the front. Sliced my neck open and pushed everything out of the way, cut the bad disc out and replaced it with a cadaver bone, then bolted that to my vertebrae. Sounds really creepy, but the alternative was living on pain pills and eventually causing nerve damage to my arm and hand. Glad I had it done.

Hope you are able to get your issue solved without too much trouble. Being in constant pain sucks and is debilitating.

From a couple of pages back, but what's up, hernia buddy? :hfive:

Had the same thing: traumatic hernia between C7 and D1 (between my shoulder blades) from a neck crank during grappling training. Thought it was a torn muscle at first. Then I started loosing sensation and strength in my right arm. Started getting really concerned when I couldn't turn my house key in the lock anymore. Also, lying down caused excruciating pain so my nights consisted of sitting in the sofa and trying to sleep.

I was really lucky: in a period of two weeks, I had a CAT and a MRI scan, 3 visits to two different specialists (one for a second opinion) and my surgery. And I has the same reaction you had when waking up: no more pain! You can hardly see the scar anymore where they went to through my neck.
