I’ve only had to dispute one order before, but it was because they sent me the wrong size of a tshirt. Super easy, as long as it isn’t a pattern showing possible dispute abuse, you should be fine!

DRINK ME posted:

I’ve had a handful (out of hundreds of orders). Two for broken items and the rest were no shows - even after the buyer protection was extended out for another couple of months.

The first time the seller was a real dick about it and asked for photos and videos as proof - I took a photo and said ‘there it is but it’s not working how am I meant to show it not working other than it sitting there’. Some try to bargain, like messaging you “half off your next order” or offering sell price minus shipping or half the price in refund, but the dispute system lets you respond by selecting the amount you want and I just go full amount. Others just haven’t responded to the dispute and AE defaults to refund if they don’t.

I’ve got a refund for every dispute and am happy with the process - I wouldn’t trust the ones that message me on the side offering stuff, stick to the process.

Alright, awesome. I guess I won't hesitate to pull the trigger when the time comes, then. Thanks!

The only thing is that you have to keep an eye on your dispute, cause you don't get emails when the seller responds. I lost a couple of disputes when the seller responded with a counter offer of "nothing, gently caress off" and I didn't respond in time

Fidget toys for adults on ali

I clicked on the initial one in my recommendations because I couldn’t work out what the hell it was, it looked like a weird belt buckle and was over $300. I’m fairly sure they are like a fidget spinner but for rich adults who can’t sit still. Made of metal and magnets instead of plastic, some seem to have lights but I think they are actually like those little glowsticks you can get for fishing - one of the videos show them being slotted in already glowing.

AU$399.36 | MUYI Titanium Zirconium Alloy Pop Coin Push Button EDC Fingertip Gyro Decompression Toy

AU$661.99 | Black Mirror 2.0 Chainsaw Demon Fingertip Spinner Adult Decompression Toy EDC

I’m probably in the target demographic for these (unsurprisingly for someone posting on SA). I am that sort of awkward where I like to have something in my hand/s to play with all the time but I just settle for a pen when I’m in the office. The price would need to come down somewhere around $3-$30 for me to consider buying.

You can find sellers that fit branded hubs, but fwiw the Novatec hubs most sellers use are pretty easy to press new bearings into.

When I bought from Ali I used this seller
https://a.aliexpress.com/_ms8uBLE
They have 100% positive feedback even 3 years later

It looks like they'll print your own custom logo on a wheelset for you now too!

Ive been extremely happy with the wheel (an 88mm fixed gear bladed spokes) and it's even been rebuilt once due to a chain drop nuking the drive side spokes, and is still true.

I think the big thing is not buying from seller who sell fakes of branded stuff

Like if you buy something with HED decals and a Novatec or unbranded hub it's gonna be shithouse bottom of the barrel factory seconds rim built as cheap as possible.

But if you but but from a seller who's business is the outlet for a major carbon manufacturer and really all they are doing is dropshipping for random fly-by nighters you will probably get the same wheelbuilders used by major players and maybe even the same moulds/designs.

I meant that sellers on AliExpress selling fake branded wheels are not to be trusted, you want the ones that are acting as outlets for manufacturers offerin drop shipping and/or customisation. These guys will be the ones that smaller boutique brands use to make their stuff.

You'll still get a fairly generic novatec hub (unless you pay for them to build up on a Chris King or whatever, which some of them will do) and generic spokes but at least it should be properly built and on a good rim.

I say this as someone who has bought multiple wheelsets following this rule and they have been amazing (barring a bearing failure in one of the hubs, which was easily fixed)

I've always been morbidly curious about these mega-expensive fidget toys. I know the target audience is rich nerds and tacticool EDC bros but I wonder if any of these listings are legit or if they're just scams.

If you're looking for something to fidget with that's less obtrusive than a fidget spinner, I recommend a worry stone. They're small, polished pieces of gemstone with a concave side so you can hold them and either spin them around in your hand or stroke them depending on your fidgeting preferences. I got an obsidian one from a local eBay listing. I can't find many good ones on AliExpress so check out eBay.

I actually found a nice bit of tigers eye in a carpark recently that might be doing the same - my brother who’s into gem and mineral stuff id’d it for me as I thought petrified wood from the grain. One side is a bit rough and I’ve been thinking about how many thousands of hours I’d need to rub my thumb over it to smooth it out: this is what I do while sitting on long work calls as we’re still work-from-home.

—-
Good to see others have built those kits and they work, was kind of worried about a bunch of wrong or dead components. I realised I actually have this one tucked away and not built so I started with it yesterday.

Took me about three hours of dicking around to do one row including working out what temperature to set a bloody soldering iron to, never had one with temp control before. As well as testing and each row with the multimeter and fixing a few joins.

I think there has to be a better way to do the LEDs than the Chinese language instructions, provided through a google drive link on a scrap of paper. It has you do all the bends first and then solder the over (+) leads, followed by the under (-) leads. Which doesn’t leave much room to manoeuvre.

I reckon if I bend all the negatives first, solder them and then repeat for the positive, it should be much easier.

Got my fake shoes. Look fine. I wear a US 11.5 so I ordered 47 1/3. A bit big but there’s no way I’d have been comfortable going the next size down. I usually end up in an 11.5 mostly for width and not length, so that may effect other sizing. I never tie up casual shoes though, so when I did lace these up they felt pretty well sized.
