I watched Akira maybe 8-10 or so years ago because everyone (like even normalesque people offline) talks about it as one of "the animes." That poo poo made no sense and to this day I have no comprehension of what I saw. Could someone give me a run down like they did for that other anime?

Government kidnaps and experiments on some kid, his friend tries to rescue him but the guy likes his new psychic powers, goes crazy turns into a monster and gets killed by his friend is the gist of it. Bear in mind I haven't seen it for years so there's probably more detail

My main problem is it's run time is 2 hours and 5 minutes, but the plot summary is one sentence. It should have been an hour and fifteen minutes long tops. What was all that nonsensical poo poo that made it 2 hours and 5 minutes long?

Anime seems to have a glorification of good food. Either how great it is, how great cooking it is, how great the artisan crafting of it is, how the spirit of the cook is infused with the dish, how perfect a specific ingredient from a specific place is, all sorts of poo poo. Even Cup Noodle is literally treated like a divine cuisine. It seems like just about every show has some element of that.
