I was watching Ari Shaffir on Theo Von's podcast the other day. He went on a self important rant that "Doing comedy these days is DANGEROUS man!" and then sat with a smug look, feeling like a badass. Gonna be honest I never found JLD funny on Seinfeld and don’t really get the whole “Elaine is just mean” thing. I dunno if they just had lovely writers or whatever but it just feels weird that one of Jerry’s exes just hangs out for 10 years making fun of them and just kind of being a jerk. Kramer tried to do favors for the gang all the time, George and Gerry have been best friends since childhood, and through repeated viewings of the entire series I just never understood what she brought to the show or why she was there. But she’s apparently a comedy genius and everyone in Hollywood loves her so whatever.

I loved Seinfeld but Jerry was an overrated hack and Larry David carried him. The last two seasons after David left are just bad and cheesy compared to the David era stuff.

She is absolutely hilarious but to be fair, the whole cast and writing staff are as well. Like most celebrities, she's a rich kid and would've had a career regardless of talent. But JLD actually does have top-of-the-line comedic chops.

They touch on it some in his documentary, but I think I heard rumors on Pete Holme's podcast. He did quite a few shows with Seinfeld before he got big.
