I think I would say to my daughters if they were to ask me this question... A shitpost is the greatest gift that you can give someone, the ultimate gift of giving and don't give it to someone lightly, that's what I would say.
Also the current anniversary event and the release of a new rep grind means the goon population has briefly returned.

Thankfully the anniversary event and the rep grind should be over by March, so I can focus on Zelda and Mass Effect and forget about this game for another three or four months.

Ok, thanks. I'm actually not completely new since I have a level 50 romulan (fed) and a level thirty something gorn, but it's been like 3 years or something and even back then I didn't really understand the game that well so I still feel like a newbie. Is it too late to start the anniversary grind for whatever ship that is? The only ships I have besides the leveling one are whatever they gave out for free a week or two ago (something something light warbird refit) and a risian corvette I got from a summer event that I've never actually even tried. It seems like the lack of cloaking would make it kind of a waste for a Romulan.

Also, can anybody point me to a decent build? Both of my characters are tac officers and appear to have been completely reset, but I have no idea where to spend their points and a lot of info online seems out of date.

The anniversary event runs until 23rd Feb and you can get 40 tokens a day, plus the 400 for your first run of the featured episode so yeah, you've got time to do it still.

Builds and stuff are on the wiki linked in the OP, but you'll need to create an account there and wait for one of the slacker admins to give you access.

The point of running a Romulan is getting the superior rom operative trait on all five boffs and then having to buy the iconian warp core twice so you can fly lockbox/promo ships. The cloaking and singularity powers are just fun gimmicks.

Be sure to get the anniversary ship. It's a science ship which is great for admiralty and admiralty is the way to :effort: yourself a decent dil/xp income.

Ah ok, well I may as well do that then as long as the ship is worth it. Is the featured episode easy? I literally have no points spent and no idea what any of my skills or inventory do right now.

For some reason I thought it was just a vanity ship or something. I stopped playing almost immediately after earning it.

I just made the Romulan since they were new at the time and their story was interesting enough that I leveled to 50 with him. I like their ships and everything, though unfortunately my romulan has a ponytail and weirdo eyebrows (just needs a fedora, trenchcoat, anime pillow, and samurai sword to complete the 'IT guy' look). I seem to remember liking my giant lizard dude because he could sell slaves and drugs for tons of dilithium or something like that, but I don't really remember how he was doing it.

The episode like all episodes is easy and you have until the end of the month to actually do it. The daily is just a scanning minigame so you don't have to have skillpoints or dil to get started on that. The minigame also gets you omega particles which you can sell for cash on the exchange or use to craft upgrade kits.

The spacedrugs and slave labor stuff is all done with the duty officer system. The fun stuff is all under the marauding category which kdf chars get instead of diplomacy.

Also you can completely change your characters appearance for free at any tailor. It's not just outfits.

If you're not in the TheNextGooneration yet post your @handle so you can get an invite and you can get quicker answers to questions there.

Oh hey, speaking of the wiki, I've finally gotten around to updating the spacebar macro. The new version fixes a few issues:

- The previous spacebar macro bound 'fire weapons' and 'redistribute shields' to the spacebar, which hosed with weapon firing cycles
- The new macro introduces an 'oh crap' button and a 'fire weapons' button
- The guide now also tells you how to set your autofire up to prevent having to slam the fire weapons button constantly
- The guide has also been revised to tell you where to put the text file, since Cryptic apparently changed the directory it reads from since the last time I hosed around with macros

Comments and feedback welcome!

Up until the release of the Pilot ships, it was easily the funnest ship in the game. Unfortunately it's a tier behind now, I'm really hoping a T6 version comes out at some point.

It's kinda unexpected, but the free Summer and Winter ships are almost universally extremely solid ships. (The anniversary ships generally less so, what's the current one like?)

The zero effort macro I use is Logitech Gaming Software.

Specifically I have every slot on rows 7 & 8 bound to Mouse Button 4 and it's continual auto repeat every half second until I press Mouse Button 4 again to turn it off. Also it only kicks it when I load STO so it doesn't muck up anything else.

It specifically does not include fire weapons or redistribute shields. Power activations only.

Obviously the macro can interfere when you want to activate non-macro'd powers (I don't macro subnuc beams for example) so I just tap off, activate, tap on. It's pretty good, server lag notwithstanding.

I very much want to learn how to do this. Specifically, how do you get the mouse buttons to activate whole rows?

Bind everything to the same button. That's it. I use mouse 4 but you can do it with anything.

I guess what I'm saying it within STO bind all those rows (or whatever rows you want) on one button you aren't like to accidentally press then use Logitech Gaming Software to set up a continuous repeating toggled on/off macro accordingly with whatever interval works for you.

This also has the advantage that you can type while your macro (mouse4 -> wait -> mouse4) cycles. If you want to be able to do things while tabbed out of the window, you'll need to use AHK.

Do you use the txt. file like a spacebar macro to get the rows bound together? Or can you do that directly within STO?

Sorry I've been using a spacebar macro for a while and I'm kind of new to this...

It's a gimmick ship and the gimmick is being the fastest ship in the game. It also has the same boff layout as the JHDC so the same bridge layouts will work.

Yeah, it has the highest impulse modifier by a noticeable margin; I think the JHAS and some of the raiders are close but even they have like a 20-30% slower impulse mod. This is notable since not only is it fast, but all those skills and powers that increase speed are basically a multiplier atop that, so once you hit EPTE, A2Damp, APOmega, and so on, you basically dart around the battlefield several times faster than most ships go at full impulse. It's absurd enough that you basically have to use beam arrays since there's no way to keep dual cannons/DBBs actually pointed towards the target.

It's a total gimmick, but it's a hilarious one to use and really unlike all the rest of the ships in game. And here's hoping there's a T6 version with pilot seating coming...

While most ships get defensive buffs for high speed, the Corvette gets extra on top of that, I think? To really drive home that you're meant to do this sort of thing?

That, and the 'vette could easily hit the turn-rate limit cap. Not only can you go faster than everyone else, but you turn on a dime and literally run circles around stuff.

The pilot ships are closer - they have a .24 mod to the vette's .25, and 20 turn to the vette's 21. It's almost there but it is still a noticeable difference.

Although some of that might be the vette's higher inertia making it easier to do doughnuts. :c00lbutt:

Nah, they'll do some dumbass "fleet T6" thing first to go half a tier and buy an expansion's worth of time and c-store spends. Possibly so they can get bonus double upgrade spending from people for T5U/non-fleet T6 boats. :v:
