Quoting from the GBS OSHA.jpg thread as they had this exact discussion about the video.: Arrath posted:I highly doubt they put that up themselves. It's probably a relic of some industrial site or a valley spanning tram line or radio antenna or who the hell knows, its Russia. But to run a cable like that popular methods include: Tying that bitch to a rocket and shooting it across as well as the much less metal "hook it to a helicopter and fly it over" and more mundane ways like "cut a path along the valley floor, pull the cable then tighten it" Platystemon posted:The trick is that you don’t start with the heavy cable. You run a much lighter line first and once it’s in place, you can attach the heavy cable to one end and pull it across. These days the initial run can sometimes be done with remote‐controlled helicopters. For the Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge, they used a kite. The Sidu River Bridge used rockets.

Seems to me that it's not really schadenfreude because the article states they're going to be more than likely giving the money to charity. I would assume that the people who paid the 5$ were probably more than aware of this considering they clicked the box. It's just a funny charity drive at that point.
