Probably many times over. But instead lets lower the taxes on the rich by 7 or 10 percent, get rid of the estate tax, and also ensure that they all become incorporated and no longer have personal income so they can take advantage of the 15% business tax rates.

I remember I was in Malta and my wife hurt her foot so we went to the ER. The doctor kept asking about if we had insurance and when we were going back to the US and I kept trying to get him to understand that it was OK, we had insurance. I finally realized he wasn't worried about how we would pay. He was wondering if we had insurance, because if we didn't he was going to get her a bunch of X-rays and MRIs there where it was going to be about 50 euro instead of getting bankrupted in the US. So you know, Malta feels bad for us.

I think his ego and people's opinion of him matters so much to him, that eventually he will realize if he gets universal healthcare in this country, his name will go down in history as being one of the most effective presidents ever. So eventually he will warm up to it.

People talk about the added cost of single payer, but it really is much simpler than that. Imagine this: All the billions of dollars that go to private health insurers... go to the single payer system instead. Done. Paid for. No taking it out of the military, no raising taxes on rich assholes, the money is already there. In fact it would cost us less because private insurers have an overhead of around 16% while Medicaid and Medicare's overhead hovers around 4%. It would cost doctors and hospitals less as well because they would need less staff to process billing as the whole process would be vastly simpler. Plus a single payer system would be in a much better spot to negotiate with healthcare providers and drug companies. There really is no reason not to do it this way other than the "S" word socialism makes people nervous.

Haha socialism doesn't make people nervous, it makes them gurgle tribalistic nonsense about places they've never been and the type of decency they only know as a prelude to theft. And yet, LOL, their paranoia only makes them more apt to be taken by conmen. Truly, the deepest LOL we can know is found in the fact that, despite reaching the very stars themselves, we are, nevertheless, still a nation of uncivilized rubes.

Now America's only hope is that everybody involved is too dumb to actually follow through with that (which isn't even that farfetched a hope), while a significant part of the American populace - invariably those that would be hit the hardest by those legislative measures - cheer these same death cult politicians on in blind fanaticism.
