I think this episode made me realize that I really don't want Roshi showing up as a character in this show at all, and would much prefer him to be banished to the background, never to have a line or gag again.

this episode had roshi as a lot more... aggressive? in his perversion than I remember him being from og dragon ball. like he was a lecher but he didn't literally carry any girls off into a room to chase them around. it also wasn't the only thing he ever did on screen. flanderization sucks, especially when the character gimmick already sucked to begin with next episode looks cool tho. neither has had the best track record lately so I actually believe it could go either way. that's unusual for dragon ball

Last time Roshi was that outright rapey he had the black water mist as an excuse. Goku backing out of the room and leaving her to her fate was dodgy as gently caress. Tien sucks and so do his students.

Maybe because previously it was with characters like Bulma and Lunch who would just whip out guns and riddle him with bullets so the joke was on him and not on the girl? Either way it was actually pretty uncomfortable at moments. At least he switched gears pretty quickly into being a proper martial artist once he recognised her as an opponent so maybe he won't be too bad in the tournament proper?

You could kind of hand wave it by saying "oh they're half-breeds" but Gohan had to bust his rear end to learn how to do it and he is too, so  And yeah the Roshi scenes in this episode were really really terrible. Master Roshi when he's being a cool old martial arts master who likes looking at porno books and panty shots is awesome. Master Roshi when he's locking a girl in a room and trying to molest her is terrible.

The spoilers dude didn't want to reveal/discuss: There's a current rumor going around about episode 93's title being "You are the 10th Warrior, Frieza!" or something. Potentially super fake but who knows. Also why can't Roshi just be Jackie Chun all the time instead of Roshi, at least he was equal parts martial artist and lecher

Yeah, I have to say Molester Roshi is a bit too uncomfortable for me to ignore, it felt they leaned too hard on that character aspect and fell flat on their faces. I didn't like the girl either, but that's because I don't like that type of character, unproportionate response tsundere. But hey, Saiyan Girl Squad is assembling and I already dig criminal queen Caulifla. "Oh, this whole GET HUGE thing sounds cool, guess I can do it then". Also random goon trying to get at Cabba with a knife, good luck with that. I feel Tien was the only dude that didn't get a bump from his recruitment episode. Even 18 got to kick Goku and be a cool battle wife, Tien just got bodied by Shadow Roshi and adopted a murderer. At least he's not Chiaotzu, the most useless of them all.

I'm just trying to figure out how it would WORK It'd have to be to replace Buu, because bringing Freeza in to stand in for anyone less powerful than Buu would be insane. The weaker dudes are here for their talent, skill and team work- NONE OF WHICH ARE THINGS FREEZA HAS. Freeza would be brought in to be raw power and that's it. It'd also have to be Beerus' idea, because literally no one alive would either think about doing it, or would WANT to do it.

Roshi wasn't like that all the time in dragon ball (and I don't think he ever was in dbz that I can remember), but I think it was supposed to be because there weren't any women at the dojo so Roshi hadn't seen one in a while?

There's no way. Freeza can't be relied upn to save the universe. Assuming they wish him back, he knows what his afterlife will look like, and having the entire universe wiped is preferable. I guess they could promise him a better afterlife, maybe? Even then, getting in one final, massive "gently caress you" to Goku might be worth oblivion to Feeza. Beerus doesn't even really want him alive, because he'll almost definitely either tell Goku/Vegeta about why he blew up Planet Vegeta, or hold that over Beerus. I guess Beerus could just destroy him post-tournament, but that's pretty grim, too.

Mannnn that was a very uncomfortable episode and I really didn't care about this lame rear end girl character. The fact we have two sayians girl confirmed is great though. Oh well i guess not every episode can swing it out of the park. Way to make Tien look like a scrub though. I guess we know whose the first one to get eliminated.

Again, I'd be more worried about the characters who have been showing off a lot lately. Gohan is going to enter the danger zone if he plays all of his cards in the next episode otherwise he has a high chance of being super important. Buu is basically doomed, Goku is hosed, 17 will likely go down to some one really powerful. Unless Toei really hates Tien, he's going to get a big moment in the actual tournament. Unless he goes toe to toe with Piccolo next episode I guess. Piccolo is also screwed but that's because Piccolo is always screwed. At this point the saviors of the universe are likely going to be Krillin, 18, and Vegeta.
