So, swolefriends, any lifting resolutions for 2017? Mine is to stop with deadlifts, I absolutely hate them. Also to get to benchpressing 100kg and squatting 150kg for 5 reps by the end of February. But mainly the deadlifts.

Mine is to just be consistent. I've been pretty bad about skipping a day here and there. Also the diet/cooking thing. e: I actually didn't go tonight, my excuse was tomorrow the gym will be empty so I'm going then.

I do have a big mechanical disadvantage in the squat so I don't expect it to be that close to my deadlift, but my current squat number is just sad. It feels like I haven't progressed at all even though I know that's not true. I've made massive gains in form and speed at lower weights, but at the same time I still have issues once I get above 75%-80% 1rm or so. I suppose I've also lost like 40lbs in that time, but everything except for squat is blowing up. Definitely going to change how I train it now that the cycle of the program I was on finished. Probably going to do a 3x5 or 5x5 linear progression for squatting or something until it plateaus then do something else while keeping bench and deadlift programming similar to what I have been doing. I do crazy deadlift volume right now and love it. Resolutions are like: -Keep improving form -Drop another 25-30lbs then gain some weight slowly -Keep gaining strength and size Khorne fucked around with this message at 11:27 on Dec 31, 2016 |

It helped a ton, in fact I think it's still somewhere in the last few pages so I could just resurrect it and keep going. Although I never got punished for breaking the Toxx, whatever it was.

have you tried sumo? I know that's been a fad, but different body types, etc. I took my measurements and found out I'm generally set up for conventional(I did try sumo before and it just felt odd for me). Pretty average torso/leg ratio but my arms are on the long side.

I feel like I want to make another long, discouraging post to the resolutioners who are about to step foot in a gym for the first time, but most people don't get that it is done to help them... If they don't have the mental fortitude to tolerate a little shade, then they don't have the necessary mindset to make the changes needed to get and stay in shape. They should stick with it, prove me wrong, and in 6 month tell me to GFY. That's how how get respect in the gym. I would like to say though that if your weight is north of 300, the gym is not your correct "step 1." Make the dietary changes first, if you can't you're just wasting your time.

The guy doesn't know it, but he's motivating even fit guys in there. If his rear end is in there every day doing cardio with an extra 200lbs of body fat on him than you....well, you better get your rear end moving, too, buddy. Don't get discouraged.

The thing that kept me out of the gym (I used to do DDPYoga at home exclusively), was being worried about other people being in the gym. Having a sort of gym anxiety is a real thing. What if I'm doing stuff wrong? I don't know what I'm doing! Everybody is watching me! Everybody is in so much better shape!! Then, I started going and realizing that all that anybody does in there is Reps >> Mess around on phone >> Reps >> Phone. Everybody is sucked into their own world with their headphones on too much to notice or much less give a poo poo about what your routine is. All of that stuff is just in your head. Get your rear end to the gymmm!
