A single, strong man in charge who puts everything right and protects them from "the other". Without the communism bogeyman to push them away, they love those dictators who give them just enough of a fig leaf that they can pretend that they're not in love with a monster. So Putin and Russia are the good guys to them. Then they have the bunker mentality that everyone is out to get them. Admittedly part of this is true since they are colossal shitheads and are treated as such, but they don't engage with facts and invent their own reality to justify their conclusions. Putin is a good guy, therefore the media is responding to his goodness by slandering him. And since he's a good guy, why wouldn't Trump be dealing with him? So it's all lies made up to discredit the strong leader who's a straight shooter and Trump is smart for working with him.
