I always download your stuff to show my friend Chazy. He only ever really got into Muta and hardcore Puro so I like to, you know, educate him.

Ditch posted:Anyone watch this? I don't watch much puro, I feel even the best matches tend to drag a bit, but this one didn't at all. They just beat the poo poo out of each other for half an hour. Probably the best puro match I've ever seen, except for maybe one of the Misawa/Kobashi v Kawada/Taue matches (I can't remember exactly which one I loved, I watched 3 and one was just way, way better than the other 2)

Like he's a wannabe Giant Baba, and the only reason's he's kept a job for so long is he's one of Misawa's guys.

The second time I watched the match, the pace is what really impressed me. Better pace than any other top-tier All Japan match. That plus the hard-hitting nature of it, plus the depth to it, is what makes it so standout.

What would you all consider Kobashi's best singles match ever? I'm always saying his fight against Takayama back in '04, I believe. I also loved his bout against Steve Williams, his NOAH fight against Misawa to get the title belt and a battle he had against KENTA in late '06 I believe where those two made me think that wrestling was real... I'm certain I haven't watched all of Kobashi's singles bouts but listening to opinions would be great. <3

The "consensus" pick is him vs Misawa from 1/20/97. Others I'd include are vs Hansen (7/93), vs Kawada (CC '95 & 6/98), the Takayama match, vs Taue (9/04), vs Williams (8/93 & 9/94), vs Misawa (10/97 & 10/98).

Ditch, you mentioned your 2nd favorite match was the 1996 tag, and though I'm sure you've mentioned it before, what's you're favorite? Unless it's another tag or six man, I'm going to hazard a guess and go with the 1994 Kawada/Misawa match.

Misawa vs Kawada 6/3/94 isn't even in my top 10. Maybe for singles, but only maybe. My #1 is Misawa/Kobashi vs Kawada/Taue 6/9/95. Here's the old Puro Pimping thread: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3224126

Ditch posted:Anyone watch this? Yes, and it rocked my socks off. Really well paced, as everyone said. I was also a big fan of the final stretch, wherein Misawa and Akiyama get MURDERED. When you see Akiyama get chokeslammed from the apron to the floor, only to fight back just enough to get backdropped by Kawada. Really awesome storytelling, as you see Akiyama try and bigger badass than he can manage at that point. Also, I'm a big fan of Kobashi vs. Kawada from January '95, while I think Kobashi vs. Williams is overrated. And Kobashi vs. Misawa from January '97 rocks rocks ROCKS and needs to be seen by everyone.

HulkaMatt posted:I think he's talking about various stretching that goes on in this video You are correct, Hulka. Stan Hansen, as stiff as he is, is one of my favorite all-time wrestlers. But this poo poo just crosses the line to me--there's no need for some of the evil poo poo he's doing. And the current Tiger Mask is the dude who had a mask vs mask (or mask versus hair, perhaps) match months ago where his mask flung off in the middle, put it back on and threw a fit and immediately ended the match, right? He suuucks.

Current Tiger Mask has had the gimmick longer than the first 3 combined. But he sucks so much he's still thought of as the new guy.
