Drafthouse has started to occasionally have "rowdy" screenings where their very strict no-talking rules are a bit relaxed. But even those are more about people whooping and such rather than some dingus trying to have an open-mic night from their seat.

Also, there's the story about how the Drafthouse's policy first started (from an old Austin Monthly piece about the history of the Drafthouse) -

I'mma say it: Some Karen poo poo right here. Putting up a little flag to snitch on people talking. You got a problem with someone yapping, you tell them to shut the gently caress up and then fistfight them outside after the movie like the old days.

people like to frame the theater as some kind of 1984 scenario but in reality there's never been any issues to any Drafthouse show I've been to. when I went to see Beau Is Afraid a lot of us were openly cackling at the deranged poo poo on screen

Yeah, the whole "raise an order card and we'll take care of it" thing is a lot more about getting really obnoxious drunks taken care of.

The real reason that screenings at the Alamo don't have a ton of talking and are more pleasant than regular theaters is because they literally don't allow anyone under 18 into any screening without an adult. No unaccompanied teenagers, ever.

Same when my husband and I went to see Cats. We expected to be shushed by the elderly women and couples sitting behind us but they were all cackling with us and commenting on how ugly and poo poo the movie was. An hour into it when the Cats were singing about Jellicles, the woman sitting behind us asked her boyfriend "what's a Jellicle?"

People are allowed to react, they just don't want the situation I had at Scream 6 where some guy and his girlfriend sat right next to me, she kept asking who everyone is then he told her to shut up and they had a whisper fight for 5 minutes and she started pinching him.

Does anyone have that tweet of the couple at the screening of The Thing who started arguing because she asked why the chopper was chasing the dog at the start of the movie?

I've been watching it and it's been long enough since the previous seasons that I'm in full-on old man mode asking "who's that? what's happening now? who's that?" but I'm the only one watching so I just think it. I don't really remember why everybody wants Ciri, what the elf factions are up to, what's the deal with that one dumbass king, etc.

They did a 'previously on The Witcher' at the start of the first episode and I still couldn't remember who anyone was or what they were supposed to be doing.

Watched the Thing with my kid and she loudly proclaimed, “THAT DOG IS EVIL” during that scene and was incredibly smug when proven correct later on.

It’s cool that she happened to be right but surely a child that assumes a cute dog is evil should be locked up?

Yeah I saw that and felt briefly relieved that they'd taken the time to remind us of who was who, what they all wanted, and why... and then it was pretty much just portentous nonsense and it didn't clear up anything.
