The only bands that I can think of off the top of my head isn't reaaallly post-rock but eh, My Disco is kind of angular and mathy. And Eleventh He Reaches London is more drawn out indie-core with some post-rock elements or whatever, I just think that maybe people will like them because I've liked a lot of the stuff posted here and I want to contribute with some lesser known Australian bands.

Nikko do some post rock-ish sort of stuff too. They have vocals in a lot of their songs and I don't really listen to them enough to know all the track titles and stuff. I think the instrumental stuff they do is OK but it's kinda "safe".

Check this out if you've never seen them live before, or even if you have. If you haven't, this will help convince you of why you need to.

One of my absolute favorites; definitely one of my top 5 post rock groups. Recently just picked up Ocean Songs on vinyl (I'm relatively new to that game); can't wait to get their s/t, Horse Stories, and Whatever You Love You Are on vinyl eventually as well. One of the better live acts as well. My favorite song is definitely Deep Waters.

I've commented on here before about how I think this thread pays too much attention to current acts while tending to neglect discussion about the greater (IMO), older acts; well, here's a song of theirs from 2012 that I enjoyed more than GY! BE or any other post rock act song from that year: Ashen Snow. I'll have it on record that I am a huge GY! BE fanboy, I just tend to think they are praised too much.

I know it's not a good show anymore for the most part, and it really should have been cancelled a decade ago, but drat man :stare: The earlier seasons (and even some of the later ones) have some classic episodes that you should probably see, much more than 2. Hell, most of the Treehouse of Horror specials alone are worth watching.

I heard about Sigur Ros being on it earlier this morning and my reaction was pretty much " :wtc: ". I mean, I'll definitely watch it. It just seems...out of place? I've seen several other bands on The Simpsons before, like Smashing Pumpkins and The White Stripes, but to have Sigur Ros among them just seems weird. I also had no idea Carl was from Iceland and that doesn't seem to make much sense. Whatever, I'll watch anything with them in it.

I guess that sustained tremolo picking with loads of reverb is just so normal in my mind that I didn't notice it.

This festival looks so good, assembling a party myself at the moment and been rinsing The Fall of Math. Not post-rock but relevant to Arctangent: I check out Rolo Tomassi again as well and it seems like they've got better since Hysterics and I actually like them now.

Have there been any notable/good post-rock releases this year whilst we wait for Sigur Ros/65dos(?) (I assume 65dos is due this year but I'm not sure). Actually I just remembered the ASIWYFA album and I quite like it. Not their biggest fan, but it's fun.

Just wanted to throw out a recommendation for El Ten Eleven. I saw them live in concert on Saturday (they were opening for Bonobo) and they loving killed it. They're not slow and brooding like a lot of post-rock bands. Rather, they have the kinetic energy of a band like Maserati, playing fast and incorporating lots of dynamics. They're only two guys - a guitarist/bassist who plays a double neck (and does lots of cool looping and e-bow work), and a drummer. And between songs at the show, they made a point of saying that they only use live instruments and no computers (which was simultaneously eye-rolling and kind of impressive).

Their newest album, which came out last year, is called Transitions and the title track is reeeeeally good. It was just as good as this live, too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaJxGtI4GvM

I used to listen to them years ago when their album Every Direction Is North came out, and I really liked them back then, but I fell out of touch with them for one reason or another. Really glad I got to see that show on Saturday to knock some sense back into me. This band rules and I shouldn't have stopped paying attention to them.

I've been listening to it for the past few days, it is defiantly more focused and clear than their first two LP's, but Quiet City will always be my favorite.

The new Sigur Ros album leaked and I just finished my first full listen through of it. Have to say, I'm kind of disappointed :( It sounds more like a Jonsi solo album than it does a proper Sigur Ros album in the way the songs are structured, which isn't a bad thing but it's just not terribly memorable. This is less of a post-rock album than pretty much all their others. Brennisteinn had me amped up because it was different and cool and I thought maybe the rest of the album might have similar characteristics since they're now a 3 piece and all. But aside from Brennisteinn, there were like 2 other songs I really enjoyed and the rest were instantly forgettable.

It's not an outright bad album, but if I had to rank it next to their other albums, it'd be close to the bottom (Von would be at the very bottom and this would be above it).

I honestly liked Valtari more than this and would happily listen to that album over this in the future.

Well there's your problem.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the album yet (I shall fix that soon), but I remember what new tracks I did hear at the show here in Vancouver I really enjoyed. It's definitely different from most of Sigur Ros' previous work, but I wouldn't really say it's inline with Jonsi's side project. Jonsi's side project was more so pop where as the new Sigur Ros is more so rock. But they still use all the same sounds we've come to love from them along with new cool ones. The heavier percussion is awesome.
