Now that's what I call a geekMAN!
I’m not that abnormally proportioned, especially within the country where these bikes are made.

Their shirts come in 5X. You’d think the bikes would.

edit: so far, the Africa Twin and V-Strom had the best geometry I’ve found for my apparently disastrous body.

While yes a cruiser will have different ergos that might accommodate better, it wouldn't have anything to do with seat height

Ah, sorry Geekboy, thought you meant it was too tall. My mistake.

Fun Shoe
To be fair they make more selling shirts than bikes and not all that buy shirts will ever buy their bike.

If you need to do custom screwy things to ATs theres a suspension parts company out of aus/nz that builds 50mm lowering parts for em. You'll need to disassemble the forks and cut down the damper chamber unless they're supplying those now.

factory inch lower seat too which will help your seat to footpeg distance.

Ignore me.

The dealership we normally go to also had one and knew enough about the bike to set it up properly. Actually very comfortable without the seat in its low setting and the bars at a weird angle.

Or grab the st1300, same engine, more sport-tourer (with an emphasis on the tourer). Does it have the st’s nightmare braking system?

Sorry, let me rephrase, a detuned variant of the st1300’s 1261cc 90 degree v4.

You're thinking of the CTX1300 with the transverse V4, this CTX has a 700cc ptwin. I have no idea what Honda was thinking with the naming.

…things I never knew existed. Whoops. Also, did they lighten the bike to put that smaller motor in?

Honda releases a bunch of bikes that don't make much sense and WOOSH they are gone just as quickly without us ever knowing. They only made it for 1 year! AFAIK the CTX 700 and CTX 1300 don't even share a part, the 1300 was much more like a Goldwing with a transverse V4 instead of a flat horizontally opposed six.

Just put a deposit on a Tenere 700 that should be in within the month. Have to drive 200miles to pick it up but you can't find one of these anywhere so I'm ok with that.

Yeah you’re doing ok there, guy at the trumph/Yamaha dealership I visited last weekend said it’d be September before they had one to sell and I wasn’t even looking to buy one, it’s just the poster child for supply shortage right now.

I loved my test ride on the Tenere. It was the bike that made me realize that one day I'm going to go with the full hi-vis riding gear/dad bike combo down there line.

Congrats on getting one. I couldn't find any at all close to here, so I've been thinking to just get another bike. Any thoughts on how the V-Strom 650 compares?

the tenere isn't in and I found a tuareg 660 locally that is in stock(a buddy bought an rs660 from this dealer and when he went to check it out he said they were unboxing a bunch of tuaregs). i have a deposit down on it. it's like 1400 more than the tenere otd. am i being a dumbass?

it seems very loving nice from all the reviews i've seen but there is more to break with advanced electronics and it's also italian. the suspension being stiffer and more adjustable than the tenere is really nice as a fat guy.

i'm thinking i will pick up the tuareg this weekend if no one talks me out of it.

this forum is also full of 46yo IT professionals with Low T who have never done a wheelie

that being said if those are your only two choices I’d still probably get the t7. but really I’d roll the dice on a 901 since it’s the least boring of the middleweight ptwins

I have an MT-09, one of my coworkers had an S-1000RR and two women PMs had RC390 and an R3 respectively, they also went hard on track days with them which was cool. Some sales dude had a GSXR of some displacement and another marketing guy daily commuted a Ninja 650.

Not sure where to post this but I have what looks like a KTM manufacturing story here. I wanted to see if KTM's biggest fan in NZ or anyone else thinks this is a common problem. I don't work on many KTMs. Got an 08 690 Enduro in the shop which I assume was ridden hard given that the owner travels to Africa in his free time to do rally races (not on this bike though). Barely ran at all. Had low compression even after I disabled the decomp thing on the cam. Pulled it apart and couldn't find anything wrong but then noticed the cam chain tensioner didn't work correctly at all. Seems to be messed up internally, very sticky, doesn't ratchet the way the book says it should. I'm assuming this caused the cam chain to jump a tooth. Is this a thing?

The real fun of living wisely is that you get to be smug about it.

I finally got a (brief) demo ride on a Ninja 1000 and it was everything I wanted it to be, easy to ride and smooth and comfortable and effortlessly quick.

I'm also going to a Yamaha event next week and now I'm desperately curious how the MT-10 will compare. I'd love to ride a GSX-S1000GT as well but with Suzuki being Suzuki the chances of scoring a demo seem pretty slim.

Came with quite a few mods already on it. gently caress knows why they removed the decals near the engine on either side but the rest generally make sense although I don't like the shorty levers they fitted.

Take a pic of the levers as they might be the ebay chinesium deathtrap ones.

Otherwise: noice, well done, try not to buy every green thing you can to stick on it now (it's hard)

Consumerism is a hell of a drug. If you bought the bike to fill a bottomless hole in your heart you'll keep buying poo poo to put on it to chase that high.

I'm partial to the story of the moto america 600 superstock racer who went through thousands of dollars worth of forks before settling on the factory Yamaha unit his R6 came with.

Which is not to say the factories are perfect or your can't improve your bike, all production bikes are a compromise and can be improved on. But you have to have an actual issue you're trying to address, randomly bolting stuff on isn't actually upgrading anything.
