I just watched the film's a few months ago and I wasn't ready for the amount of off screen deaths.

2 and 7 were butchered by the MPAA.

2 apparently got too creative and the MPAA thought it was obscene to show stabbings in certain areas.

7 was outright gory, and the MPAA said it was too excessive.

And, as always, it's hilarious now that primetime network TV like CSI can show poo poo a billion times worse than anything in any of the first 8 Jason movies, but Terry's nude scene would be an earth-shattering scandal today.

Tommy Jarvis is a delusional, extremely lucky moron and being around him is basically a death sentence.

If we consider this game canon then his character is even more hilarious. Hey yea, now I'm a Jason hunter!!! This gun with one bullet will totally do the job!

The punchline, of course, being that Roger Ebert got his start in porn and Russ Meyer films and from the beginning of his career until his death he always wrote about actresses in a heavy-breathing, slimy way.

The man is a titan of film criticism and deserved his accolades, but his opinion on slasher horror films being "exploitative trash" would give Freud fans a lifetime of poo poo to unpack.

Well, all the guns are one shots in the game because video games.

You are correct that Tommy is pretty delusional and basically a really hosed up kid. It's his fault Jason is back at all after part 6 because he couldn't just leave well enough alone.

I suppose you could say Tommy attempting to kill Jason in the game is just a continuation of his work in 6, which is "OH gently caress I BROUGHT HIM BACK NOW I MUST STOP HIM".

Personally when I get Tommy I try to play him as helping out whoever is still there, including calling the cops if I find the fuse.

Tommy should probably not survive any matches though, I do agree with that.

I still want some Creighton Duke DLC. :black101:

He was a pretty cool kid, I'll give him that. He only gets credit for getting the better of Jason the one time though, you don't get a pat on the back for(temporarily) cleaning up your own mess.

Instead of going to therapy he decided to stab a corpse with a metal stake in the middle of a lightning storm. He's responsible for dozens of deaths.

To be fair, quite often Tommy is incompetent because he is played by the person who died 60 seconds into the match in a really stupid way and didn't have a clue what to do (me) and everyone else is still alive.

If you call the cops as Tommy the cops should

A) either not believe him and hang up on him

B) after multiple attempts of calling they realize it's that kid that should be in a mental institution and start going after HIM trying to arrest him.

It'd be a fun way to balance it out and is always a hilarious trope of authority never believing the protagonist.

The Friday movies took the brunt of the MPAA fury (and this is speculation) because Paramount was backing them. Most of the other slashers we see that popped up in the 80's are all random production companies you've never heard of, until New Line stepped in with Nightmare and started making some real noise. Granted, I think Paramount may have also distributed some other slashers through the decade, but Friday was pretty firmly a "Paramount Production" until New Line snagged it after Manhattan, and from what is said in various docs about the franchise, Paramount hated the Friday movies because they were slashers, but they loved that slasher money that was rolling in.

If you've not watched "Crystal Lake Memories" or "His Name was Jason" you're really missing out. "His Name" is much more inline with your typical "Hey here's a doc about this series of movies" and doesn't dig as deep as the 8 hour (!!!!) "Crystal Lake Memories" does. That along with the book of the same title are basically your definitive history of the franchise and while I have the book and haven't cracked into it yet, I've watched the entirety of the doc and it's really entertaining and interesting.

I'd recommend both, and "Never Sleep Again" which is I believe 4 hours long, but has a ton of great info about the Nightmare franchise.

Well maybe YOU should get off your lazy rear end and use one of those Last Action Hero golden tickets to enter Part 6 and inform Tommy that he is, in fact, in a movie and should behave himself accordingly.

Before you're done in there make sure you get me Megan Garris' phone number, I only know that it starts with 555.

I wish Jason traps were something you could disarm with a mechanics check. Or trigger them by jamming in (and breaking) your melee weapon or something. Or maybe prevent placement that entirely blocks a repair objective? It seems a little harsh that the only way to (safely) get around a trapped car/phone box is by having a pocket knife or first aid spray. My opinion may be influenced by the fact that I often end up playing against my friend who is a good Jason and normally chooses bag head Jason and gets 8/8.

Funny you bring up Last Action Hero, because the kid from that movie was way smarter than Tommy Jarvis. That kid would have instantly known to stay away from that graveyard.
