One of the most depressing times to be working is Day Shift on ANZAC Day, Christmas, or Good Friday. Because these are the days they were mandated by law to shut. So they shut on Morning shift, (4AM-Midday). So when you work Day shift on those days, you see people who had been kicked out at 4AM the night before, waiting out the front to RUN back to their favourite pokie, which they had probably been kicked off the night before, the very second the doors opened. And you knew that very few of them had been home in the meantime.

My Coles opened at 1pm. So did the other supermarkets around here.

Exploration is ill-advised.
So I got a large cappuccino at a bakery for around 6 bucks and it came in a comically oversized mug filled to the brim with what I'm pretty sure was like half a litre of coffee

That'll keep me going for a while

great ocean road was also a work for the dole thing, and is the worlds largest war memorial because it was dedicated to the returned soldiers who built it by hand

The soldier settler scheme was a post war job creation thing as well. Give PTSD addled veterans a large chunk of barely farmable land to work so they can be alone in the countryside with their demons and a loaded gun or two.

Do you often sing or whistle just for fun?
Most depressing pokie story I know is from the guy teaching the RCG course I did. A woman playing next to him wins some link jackpot of $250K and doesn't react at all, the guy is all "hey don't you see you just won a fuckton of money?!" and the woman replies "so what, I'm still in the red".

Not linking to real estate poo poo in the age but figured I'd share this property article gem

quote:

They said they quickly fell in love with the quirks of the home which included a wood fired oven in a second kitchen, a painting of “the last supper” on the wall, and an indoor/outdoor space with a pool table.

But they were the only party to raise their hands, with the rest of the small crowd remaining silent when Love & Co sales agent and auctioneer Eric Brown called for a $10,000 rise.

After taking a “half-time-break” to check with the vendor, Brown returned unsuccessfully to ask for further bids on the home, which had a $1 million to $1.1 million guide, before it was passed in.

However, the property sold just minutes later to Sladic and Loncarevic, who had only inspected the property once previously.

They said they quickly fell in love with the quirks of the home which included a wood fired oven in a second kitchen, a painting of “the last supper” on the wall, and an indoor/outdoor space with a pool table.

Bloody loved the newspaper trading post, me. All sorts of vintage synths, Rhodes pianos and Hammond organs were mine for the taking, until ebay came along and buggered it all up. Applies to Cash Converters too
