Are DOTA games really like 40 minutes? This is my first dip into the genre but if that's the case I don't really care if this is the baby version, I don't have any interest in matches that long.

Has anyone gotten all the heroes? I've managed to amass all but D.va and... Thrall. I've spent a good chunk of money on this game but I've also played it casually since alpha.

I usually don't do it until a player has been reckless and gotten killed for nothing once or twice, if they're gonna annoy me by throwing, I'm gonna annoy them back.

I ping twice because it's easy to miss one ping, and gently caress you if an extra dinging noise is really going to destroy your gaming experience.

I don't ignore them, I just don't believe that in 99.9999% of situations, five will convey anything more useful than two or three. In fact, to me personally it's LESS useful. Because when someone is spamming them all over, my brain starts filtering them for the map even if I don't mute them.

The shorter game times is one of the major plusses for HotS. "Make a mistake at the start that has you slowly lose over an hour unless they mess up too" is neat for optimization-fetishists, but a headache for actual play.

Depending on the map and who you're up against you may want to go all on on the inner beast talents. Really good if you wanna burst down a tower on ToD or kill the Immortal real quick. Hit W then hit E and chew up the target real fast.

Differentiating between weak suggestions and strong suggestions is really important in high level Dota Dota is a pretty complex game that moves in real-time (more complex than HotS), and as such, it's hard to have all the facts constantly. The single ping means that you should do something based on your own understanding of the situation. That means that you should try to kill a hero, but give up on the plan if it doesn't seem right to you. Being pinged multiple times, at least in my case, taps into my "muscle memory" instead of my logical thinking, so I will just trust the guy who pings me and do whatever is needed without thinking. Obviously that fucks me up sometimes if I'm playing with people who ping badly but it's usually beneficial. Also spamming retreat pings in Hots is pretty useful because a lot of people will ignore the first retreat ping if they think they can still win the fight, but multiple retreat pings usually gets through and they'll peel off immediately

If minimap pings did not exist in the original War3 engine then Dota players would be vehemently opposed to them and actively fight against their implementation. That's really all you have to know about Dota.

My level 10 Nazeebo loot chest gave me his emote pack, which was super disappointing. Or would have been, had it not included the Murky announcer. He just sounds so proud of me when I get kills, and encouraging when I die.
