The upgraded version has always been dyable. Grab a couple temple attire augmentations off the marketboard, or level ALC, and turn them in to one of the Mor Dhona ladies. And those hands are one of the ARR relic weapon steps.

If I have my retainers one job (in this case, AST), can I switch them to another job like RDM? Or do I need to completely reset them to level 1 and wait till level 50?

When I switched one of my retainers to RDM, it kept it's levels. Maybe this only happens when switching to RDM for the first time? It was the first Job assigned.

Hey I'm coming back after a year hiatus, and just got into Heavensward. I love gathering and crafting and am on the cusp on 50 and the new systems are a bit weird (Scrips? Time-sensitive nodes that disappear?)

So far I have unlocked
Collectibles
Weird nodes that only show up for a bit and I have to "reach" to get things?
Leves

What can I ignore so I can continue to just hit a rock and get minerals? Also Can I continue doing Uldah's Flame-faction hand-ins to get gear post 50?

Retainers start at the same level as you would in that particular class, so ARR classes start at 1, HW at 30 and SB at 50.

I can see where the sentiment comes from. Casters in a lot of other MMOs (also like most other Final Fantasy games) ignore weapon damage and look at secondary stats or abilities.

This is something ff14 got right. Those other mmos run into weird issues with balance for caster/melee slot weights. So some of them try to fix by shoving a large amount of stats on the weapon which causes other itemization and scaling issues. But having everyone use weapon damage for all of their actions smooths all of that out.

Those are all important. You don’t need to worry about them all the time, but at some point you should get familiar with them so you can find new, bigger rocks to hit.

Scrips are the endgame currency and you can trade them for new recipes/materia/gear/some other stuff.

Collectibles are the primary way to get scrips. Crafting collectibles works pretty much the same as crafting normal items, but gathering collectibles works a little differently and have their own little minigame (it’s not hard to figure out, and you’ll get skills for it from 50-60). Keep in mind that the stuff you can hand in changes every day.

Timed nodes are super important because they’ve generally got valuable stuff on them. There’s websites that track the time stuff is available, and what slots actually have items in them. I recommend Garland Bell.

Leves are the best way to level, they’re repeatable quests for a certain item (or “go to this spot and gather specific quest nodes” for mining/botany). They aren’t useful once you actually hit 70 though.

The faction handins stop having gear post-50, but the quests are still available. There’s still a few useful non-gear things you’ll want seals for, and it’s still good experience.

Edit: There’s also crafting specializations. You get to pick 3 classes. They get some specialist recipes (these rotate out eventually, so they are only specialist-exclusive for one patch), a small stat boost, and a bunch of mostly-useless actions (the ones you learn at 69 are pretty good). Just pick your favorite crafting classes.

There’s also gathering favors. You can completely ignore these because they haven’t been relevant since like 3.0 or whatever.

Collectables for crafting work exactly like regular crafting, after you turn the ability on: Quality gets replaced with Collectablity, and is increased using the same skills that increase quality. You can turn items with high enough collectablity for XP and scrip.

Collectable gathering is weirder and uses it's open set of skills to improve collectablity, which eats through your GP and the durability of the node.

Collectables of both types are pretty important for gaining XP and buying endgame materials.

Legendary nodes are timed to only appear at certain times of day and usually have rare bits on them that are required for advanced crafting recipes. They aren't needed for leveling, but if you want to make a lot of money off crafting and or gathering you'll want to get used to them. A number of sites like Eorzea Clock can be used to track which nodes are coming up.

Grand Company turn-ins work all the way to 70 and you should keep doing them!

Leves are probably the fastest way to level crafters if you have the time (or money) to produce what is requested. They're nice for gathering too but gathering leves are way more boring than just doing collectables.

Don't forget to hook up with the Ixal and Moogle beast tribe's for that much more crafter xp from 1-60.

AFAIK FF14 also sometimes gets confused when it comes to auto equipping stuff by replacing stuff with lower ilvls even if they are inferior.

Third Graven Image is deceptively the worst mechanic to fail. The fact that it doesn't outright kill anybody but gives a stacking Party-wide damage down and infirm debuff for each mess up instills some false hope for progression teams. I will say that as you're waiting for the left/right arena aoes to resolve, as soon as you see the effect go off, you and your stacking partner can immediately move in to your spot if it was in the danger zone. You also do not have to run too far from middle, which is a problem my group had early on. Our healers would move over way further than they needed to, and just weren't making it to their mark in time.

We started using the 1 and 2 waymarks to line the middle in the north and south so people had a better visual cue for how far they need to move over.

Also yeah, NED was a series of moving in to position mechanics with heal checks. Exdeaths Black Holes were the actual hard mechanic of O4S. Those drat super huge hit boxes can go to hell.

If you don't play the other healers through to those levels though, you'll be blissfully oblivious to how much smoother the other healers feel, so you can keep enjoying ast.

Its stored - but not your house storage, unless that has changed, you have to carry it in your normal inventory and get it off one of the housing guys. Also it is not stored forever, you only have a limited time to reclaim your stuff. I want to say about a month?

At least in 14 it's usually case.

The worst thing about it though is that it will give your tank melee DPS gear with slightly higher ilevels which destroys your armor.

NED's attacks hurt like hell and Grand Cross Omega is scary as gently caress the first time you see it but he is almost 100% choreographed. Nearly everything he throws at you is resolved with a binary choice. Meanwhile Exdeath's black holes are still just about the most bullshit mechanic in the entire game.

Also the cape. gently caress that cape.

It seems to prioritize CP over any other stat. I had an augmented handmaster's bracelet that it always wanted to equip instead of my HQ zelkova bracelet because the handmaster's had one more CP. It wasn't a problem for my other accessories because I had melded CP onto them. I ought to for the bracelet, too, just never got around to it...

If you just want to blow up as many dungeon drops as possible you want either GSM or ARM. I'd lean towards GSM since almost every class seems to have GSM accessories but only the melee have ARM body pieces.
