So, it looks like the new freighter will have "combat power" close to a battleship. Lol, if it turns out that thing can take out at least some gankers, and therefore make ganking less profitable, will every pubbie in highsec just change to the new ship? :allears:

And a new "blockade runner" with the firepower of a force recon? Lol, lmao even. I'm kind of interested to see what the actual numbers are, hopefully we get them on May 16.

Definitely think they have the potential to change ganking in highsec but not because of that.

The damage bonus is to auto-targeting missiles so I doubt you're able to focus on a talos long enough to take it down, let alone anything smaller which it won't apply well to. Even if you're able to take down one or two before CONCORD kills them it's probably not going to be enough to really make a difference if the gankers have any margin. edit: It appears I was mistaken about how auto-targeting missiles work. Still, the 1.35k dps shown in the dev blog video, assume that's like 1.59k heated, will let you deal something like 48k damage before dying in the best case (pulled 0.5) and take down 5 talos in the best case if you don't lose too much to volleys. That's ~2.5 talos of damage less which isn't *nothing* but gankers can compensate for that pretty easily by fitting like, a damage control and two bulkheads (at a cost of a whole 1.5% DPS) and it pales in comparison to the next point:

they're going to be extremely tanky and they're not far below a bulkheaded freighter in terms of cargo space. I did some excel-ing based on the raw HP numbers seen in the video and it looks like you can achieve 770kish thousand EHP against void L / 850k against a mix of EM/Exp with just a DCII, Capital Flex Shield Hardener II and two Adaptive Shield Hardener IIs That's a bunch more than a freighter can achieve (providence with A-type coating and HG amulets has 732/622/578/562k ehp against each damage type, and obelisk with ORE bulkheads and HG amulets has 708k ehp against uniform damage, -/+ 20k for pure damage) and you could push it higher easily with blingy mods or implants and probably start rivaling a max tank JF. So if these are not wildly unaffordable compared to a normal freighter, it'd probably be smart to switch a bulkheaded freighter to a tanked avalanche. You could even have two cargo expanders in the low, since barely any of your EHP comes from shield.

Not sure the blockade runner is going to be good, since the blog post says it's only just above a t1 cruiser in terms of tank. If you're hauling reagents or infrastructure it's an upgrade over a regular BR, I guess.

I don't off hand see how? They might be tankier but not doesn't seem like enormously so. The ability to shoot back at gankers seems unimportant since CONCORD will do that anyway and by the time it matters I imagine you'd be dead.

Brisc along with Mittani are the most powerful people in the world of EVE. Why are you aggroing Brisk? The Imperium has the best strategists, economists, managers, we generate the best content, we have great people who understand the balance of the game. Who do you think is more versed in game balance? The person who fled the ship in hysterics a few years ago, or the person who still plays with us and tries to make the world of EVE a better place? The economy of EVE is a complex mechanism that not everyone can understand. You can’t just come and say that 2018 was good and I only want what it was then. It doesn't work like that. People can't sit on a super ship, farm harbor, and not buy omega for $ and get trillions of ISK. This leads to total chaos. Our respected CEOs of the Imperium know what they are doing and there is no need to argue. Do you really believe that Brisc wishes someone bad or pursues personal ambitions? No. He tries his best for all of us. It is only thanks to our leaders that we feel great in this game and get the best content thanks to our leaders.

Don't worry about being blown up because it's inevitably going to happen if you keep playing. But if you join a half-way decent group they'll help you make in game money to be able to afford more and better things, as well as help you learn better ways to play and have fun. That way when your ship does explode, you are able to just jump into another and keep going.

Do pretty much anything but mining when starting. In my opinion, nothing quite stunts the new player experience like trying to jump strait into a mining career. It becomes a death spiral of social isolation and burnout, and too many never take much interest in other aspects of the game before quitting a handful of months later. Though it may seem like the most straightforward means to get cash, there are drastically better and much more exiting paths to space wealth. Once you build a foundation and get a better understanding of Eve, then you can go mine in more profitable areas of space with better ships and skills for the job.

Also, Baron has very solid advice. Get comfortable with the idea of losing ships, and don't stress when it happens. Every ship lost is a learning experience in the making.

You can do a lot of fun stupid things in this stupid bad game, and it’s very easy to end up doing something you do not like because you feel like you Should Do It. This is a trap!! Do the fun things. Fancy ships are cool but it is also cool to shoot the poo poo with friends and lose ships in silly ways. Optimization is a curse.

What would you recommend besides the agent missions? Combat still feels hard but I'm sorta getting to grips. You'll get free ships from the career missions. You may also be showered with free space dollars by simply taking that new person ship to null security space and trying to shoot other players. Everyone thinks it's cool and cute.

That sounds like a great way to get a target on my back! Might actually try it for a laugh lol. I don't really look like a new player though, my account was created in 2017 but I only played like ten minutes back then. Idk if people can see my skills. I will try to complete some career missions.

i havent messed with it personally, but people seem to both really enjoy and make lots of money from scanning/exploration. An astero seems relatively fast to train into, and the skills needed (both in terms of sp training and actual player skill) are very useful in game generally. I'd imagine you can pretty easily start out by living in highsec and taking day trips through wormholes for cash, and once youre skilling up down that path opening up living in wormholes is both highly lucrative and (imo) fun.
