Tonight's debate will be a good barometer of how competent the Hillary campaign is.

Pence is a trained, disciplined politician who is going to come out swinging, armed with all the attacks Ailes and Bannon have ever fantasized about delivering. If the campaign has drilled Kaine well enough to turn the tables on a berserking Pence, I'll be a lot more confident in their ability to see out the next 5 weeks. On the other hand, if we see Kaine spend the entire night defending attacks on Hillary, the media narrative will flip, and the Trump campaign halts its death spiral when they aren't playing defense.

Yeah I'm sure it'll be super important

To everyone saying lol vp debates don't matter, you're half wrong. Maddow brought this up last night. It doesn't have much of a polling impact, sure, but it can be a big morale boost. Case in point: Biden clowning on Ryan. Obama got destroyed in the first debate, and the dems needed a boost. Biden delivered. It also happened in 84 and 04 after the sitting president stumbled in the first debate.

Oooooooooooh!

Am I the only one checking PEC and 538 multiple times throughout the day and watching the number go higher and higher?

It's glorious. PEC has the distribution chart of all possible outcomes where Trump could possibly get 270 EV and it's in the green sub-5% section, not even in the blue 95% area anymore.

I doubt Mike "Let's introduce legislation to make the X-men illegal" Pence can offer much of a morale boost for the Republicans, and the Dems don't really need one right now.

But if Kaine does stomp his rear end, I'll be more than happy to have another cool thing to be smug about.

The manger babies don't have feelings. You said it yourself.
I think that Trump's supporters will be looking to the VP debate as a kind of morale boost, like how the left treated Biden's utter clowning of Ryan in that debate.

With that said, I do really hope that Kaine takes Pence to task over Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

There are probably some republicans looking at Pence, going "Trump is a lunatic , but if he get impached on day one anyhow, I can vote for Pence". Then again, it is more likely that Pence is so bland, they can't be bothered to vote for the off chance Trump ending in jail.

Pence is a goober who only looks good in comparison to Trump. And I'm not sure how big of a morale boost you can get since I doubt most Trumpkins can even name the VP nominee (and I doubt most people who plan to vote Dem can name Kaine).

And one of the most legendary burns in modern political history was delivered right when it was needed in the 1988 VP debate, to no effect whatsoever. Romney's polls moved up after the VP debate, and Obama's didn't shift.

Pretty funny that these GOP voters looking for a "change" or something "new and different to shake up washington" are relying on a george w bush republican like Pence for a morale boost.

I think he will. I'm optimistic for tonight. Kaine may be boring, but he's a really canny political actor who's way smarter than people give him credit for. Pence is kind of a dullard. I'm expecting a fun evening.
