I would love this to explode in their faces but unless the Democrats take the Senate along with the presidency I could see them refusing to consider justice appointments indefinitely with little negative ramifications.

I think anyone that points to a YouTube video of a few dozen students at one college one time as evidence of, well, anything, is a loving moron.
If you think this isn't happening everywhere, you seriously aren't paying attention. How about this incident?

quote:

Around 5:45 p.m., as attendees began to leave the conference, students outside chanted the phrase “Genocide is not a joke” and held up written signs of the same words. Taking Howard’s reminder into account, protesters formed a clear path through which attendants could leave. A large group of students eventually gathered outside of the building on High Street. According to Buckley fellows present during the conference, several attendees were spat on as they left. One Buckley fellow said he was spat on and called a racist. Another, who is a minority himself, said he has been labeled a “traitor” by several fellow minority students. Both asked to remain anonymous because they were afraid of attracting backlash.

Or this?

quote:

Protesters at Dartmouth University disrupted students studying in the library, reportedly directing profanity towards white students and physically pushing others.

In a critical editorial, the conservative Dartmouth Review listed some of the epithets hurled by the protesters: “gently caress you, you filthy white fucks!” “gently caress you and your comfort!” “gently caress you, you racist shits!”

In addition, the Review reports that some of protesters became physically violent: “Men and women alike were pushed and shoved by the group. ‘If we can’t have it, shut it down!’ they cried. Another woman was pinned to a wall by protesters who unleashed their insults, shouting ‘filthy white bitch!’ in her face.”
Doing this to students working in a library is pretty stark.

Today I'm introducing VotR, a completely revolutionary concept of Democracy.
VotR users will answer a series of diagnostic questions and then be presented with a read-out of their political inclinations. An advanced algorithm then matches them to the precise candidates, issues and proposals that appeals to them. No arguing, no depending on outside media for your information. Managed democracy!

A lot of(most?) of the countries that formed democracies/republics post US Revolution used the US constitution as a base, but fixed a lot of the more stupid things in it.

Lets be honest though, a political party being a bunch of children isn't exactly a new thing in this country. Hell, in order to even get the constitution ratified one of the states had to send out people to find all the anti-federalists and literally drag them to the building where the vote was being held, because the anti-federalists knew that the federalists could not reach a quorum without the anti-federalists there, and so couldn't vote on the ratification.

This doesn't work against the idea that there are downsides to democracy, merely that many of our attempts to manage those downsides of democracy within our hybrid system sometimes lets things that shouldn't be based on democracy be decided by it (elected judges, gay marriage referendums) and acts in very undemocractic ways in others (electoral college, the senate, the idea of states' rights in general). It's mostly the latter, and I definitely feel that it should probably be more democratic, but there are downsides to complete and utter democracy, and hence you get liberal democracy where minority rights are protected. Now which minority rights should be protected is a question too, and we err on the side of the rich as a minority rather than say, black people as a minority.
