Fabulous film. Very original. I haven't seen anything like it before or since. Excellent storytelling, excellent characters, excellent direction and acting all the way through.

I saw an interview where Quentin Tarantino was asked that question and his answer was very plain:

"It's whatever you think it is."

He left it open to the viewers' imaginations. So when Ringo asks Jules "Is that what I think it is?" the answer is yes, no matter what you think it is. It's different for everyone.

My first thought the first time I saw the movie was that it was The Holy Grail (don't ask me why), so for me it's The Holy Grail. If you think it's Marcelles' soul, then it's Marcelles' soul. If you think it's a McGuffin (whatever that is, sounds like a bird or a car), then it's a McGuffin.

This is yet another reason why this movie is totally brilliant.
