Are these... art analogies for a car debate?

Snow Foot Car

The subtitles roughly translate to this:

Our product is intended for converting standard cars into snowmobiles.
Which makes it possible to comfortably drive long distances in the winter
It takes one hour to convert, while nothing on the car is changed
Fuel consumption is 20l/100km [around 12mpg I guess?]
Extremely simple design explains its reliability

Remember that snow foot car thing a few pages back? Well here's the same thing, but with tracks. You drive your Niva (or another 4WD or RWD car) on this thing, connect the wheels and brake lines, and go blasting around the tundra (if the voiceover is to be believed).

Yes but does it use less energy than the oil it makes contains? If not, then its not very functional.

This is not my forte unfortunately, so bear with my back-of-excel sheet calculations:

1kg of plastic makes 1l of oil, according to the video, or ~0.850 kg. Let's go along with this.

Let's say we need to heat the plastic by 100 deg. C. to start the evaporation, as I couldn't anything on this. But even 200 or 300 degrees shouldn't change the result.

Plastic has a thermal capacity of ~ 1500 Joules per kg degree Celsius, so we need 100x that - 150 kJ.

1kg of oil (depending on the type, I guess) has the energy density of 35-40 mega Joules, so we spent 150 kJ to get 30-35 MJ of energy. Sound decent to me! (unless I hosed up somewhere)

Contraband posted:

Yeah but those lines are white, which indicates that it is a lane separator from another lane that is going in the same direction. That would be a hell of a desperate attempt from the lawyer, but might as well I guess! :v:

Must be regional differences, all lane markings are white around here. Also I don't think we have "wrong way" signs at the off-rapmps, but then, I haven't tried getting onto one yet :D
But yeah, I know it would be pretty desperate, but desperate defendants demand desperate defenses.

:golfclap:

That's actually a fake show with actors pretending not to be able to drive for poo poo, right? I mean, how can somebody who's driven for more than a day not know the S-turn? Or the guy who couldn't make a lane change without skidding into a parked car. But then... they wouldn't have an actor run over some crew members... so it's probably real, isn't it? :gonk:

Lance just seem to have a psychological problem, although that's really a pretty common issue with the contenders. Including Brad's land-whale's who's completely terrible though, and anyone driving her around would go nuts in short order. Scott is a douche, but besides the drinking and driving a bit too fast I thought he was fairly competent compared to most of the others. Dale is just terrifying, I have no idea how anyone can willingly stay in her car for any length of time. She's by far the worst of the bunch.

Check out the previous season, it has a guy named Mike Butt. It's also pretty interesting that they have some of the same type of terrible drivers: the abusive pair, the slow one, the careless distracted bitch, the immigrant, etc. On the down side, they beat the poo poo out of some cool cars like the Silver Shadow, G-Wagen or the CL coupe, it's just so much more fun when it's an ugly green automatic Camero.

Normally you wouldn't expect someone coming in the same direction over a solid line, but I've learned to always check anyway. Not that I jump out of the car all the time, but it does happen that you need to get something from the back seats (not with a Miata though!) or trunk, or just take off your coat/jacket or something, so this part is not much of a mystery.

Throatwarbler posted:

I think it's one of those offroading things where you can ford a surprising amount of water if you just keep gunning it and don't stop, because as soon as you do the bow wave rushes back and swamps you.

Obviously if the water is already up to your windowsills you've probably overdone it.

This video was posted on autoblog and everyone was calling the guys making the video assholes for not supporting :911:. Apparently the trucks rode in while the water was still very low, but then the levees broke and flooded the area. Still seems pretty stupid to just keep driving straight when water is already over your roof, but maybe it was the only/best bet.

The rider catches the already (slowly) opening door with the handle bar, just like Dave Inc. says. Here's that frame:

He was also way into the oncoming traffic lane before closing right on that car. Sucks, but I'd say it's mostly his own fault.

Edit: does anyone remember or have a link to the video (cartoon) made with some text to speech service, where a goony car guy talks to a "normal" person about cars, and basically tells him to buy a Miata no matter what requirements he has?
