Yea the guy getting cut down by an F1 car was the icing on the cake... about the only thing I could think of after watching that was it is amazing how far safety has come.

Ziploc posted:Why don't they just disassemble it? Jesus Christ I can feel my mind melting. Time. Takes ~10 minutes or less to destroy an engine with sodium silicate, and then the engine is pretty much junk without a complete rebuild (which may not be enough anyways). It'll take a LOT more time to disassemble an engine and render it unusable by mechanical means than just dumping a chemical in the engine oil and waiting a few minutes. Time is money, and the intention of the program was to take these cars permanently off the road.

Instead of gently caress the police, lets think about it from a different angle. The area is experiencing a serious, widespread natural disaster where over 22 people have already died. Roads are flooded and impassible, emergency services are stressed, and response times to emergencies are lengthy or impossible as some areas may only be reachable by boat. The cop sees risky/dangerous behavior (are there sinkholes? is there underwater debris? is the roadway damaged? who knows!) and stops it to avoid potentially adding yet another emergency and calling emergency crews to a 100% preventable accident, when those crews could be doing better things. Does it look fun? yea. Does it suck that the cop stopped them? yea. Were they using good judgment with their water skiing? not even close.

wolrah posted:No, it's cost engineering. They've done IRS on the late-00s Cobra, it added thousands to the cost of the chassis with no significant benefit for the vast majority of Mustang owners. Some of those IRS cars were even converted back to live axle because a live axle is a shitload harder to break on the drag strip. I don't even think it's cost engineering. I think the live axle is a selling point with a good portion of the demographic that wants that car. Give the customer what they want....

Every few videos you see some shitcan going 2-3X the speed of traffic causing some sort of wreck, or people making painfully avoidable mistakes. Why is driving in Russia so apocalyptic? I saw it explained that it's largely due to the fact that no one could own a car, or even afford to, until very recently. Then seemingly overnight the floodgates just open....
