VampireRobot posted:1. My mom used to show me this weird horror movie when I was a kid. I think there might have even been a sequel or even maybe a series. It was sort of a monster movie, where the monster was a severed hand. As far as i can remember, the hand would roam around and cause all kinds of trouble and kill people and stuff. I think the hand was pretty gross-looking too. One of the segments in Dr. Terror's House of Horrors? VampireRobot posted:2. This one is even more vague. I think I saw this late one night on TV while I was watching alone. It seemed like it was sort of psychedelic and there were lots of characters with long hair and beards, so I think it might have been from the 70's. This too was some kind of horror movie. i THINK that the main characters were actors in a play, or were trying to put on some kind of production. Or, it might have just been some kind of dinner party. The main thing that I remember about it was that there was some kind of object or something, i think, and when people looked into it, all of a sudden they were being hypnotized by this evil-looking dude's face that may or may not have had red glowing eyes. I believe this face also had long brown hair and a beard or mustache. From what I can remember, people would become possessed after seeing this face, or else hypnotized. Then they either died or killed someone else. All I remember is that something bad went down. The main thing I remember of the movie is just that there was a group of people and they were being terrorized by this evil face that was trying to hypnotize or possess them. Horror Express? Although it's not apparent from the IMDb description, the kind of stuff you describe goes on in this movie. Sir Nose fucked around with this message at 17:09 on Nov 1, 2010 |

It appeared to be some kind trashy 70s/80s adventure movie where the blonde headed hero was traveling with a young female cohort. They were being chased by a guy with a self propelled siege tower where he used this to assault a castle alone (probably because they had no money for extras?). The protagonist/villain (and I think title character) was this big guy who I believe was actually from Africa, possibly a king, who was declaring how powerful he was as bullets bounced off of him. It is a film from the seventies with an actor similar to Stacy Keach, who plays a Bad Lieutenant-style anti-hero cop with an extreme racist streak. Apparently the intent behind the film was to show this characters actions as wrong, but the actor went to a screening of his own film in a coastal metropolis (I think New York, but it could've been Seattle or another similar city) and the audience was cheering the lead on. The actor supposedly swore off all similar roles past that. I'm really curious as to if this is a real story, or if somehow in the past few years of searching I've added or altered details to the anecdote. Sounds like Peter Boyle's reaction to JOE.

Spanish language film that hit the art-house circuit in the late 70s or early 80s, about a matriarch and her relationship with her gay son and his boyfriend. Got some press for the unusual (for the time and country of origin) subject matter, but I remember it being rather toothless... genial, but bland. Lots of annoying Jess Franco (RIP) style zoom-ins. Title may have been similar to "Dona Flor and her Two Husbands"... "Mama so-and-so and her Two Sons" or something like that.

Detective Thompson posted:I'm trying to remember a name of a kinda obscure movie from the late-40s/early-50s, was controversial for its time. I thought it was called Jesus In Concrete, but that doesn't seem to be the case, though I'm sure it had 'Jesus' in the title. I don't remember a whole lot of it, but it was set in New York, or maybe Chicago. The main character worked on construction sites, lived in a run-down apartment with his family, and if I remember right, had an Italian accent. I don't recall much of the details, but I remember him having having lots of trouble at home and at work, he might have had a mistress on the side. He may possibly have been agitating for unions, as I seem to recall his bosses not being fond of him. Anyway, at the end, he decides to pull things together with his life, goes back to work, and it ends with him falling into some concrete from a scaffold or other high spot and drowning in it. He might have been pushed, if the union thing is a correct memory. I remember one of the last images is of him with his head and hands just above the surface of the concrete. And IIRC, the guy was singing either in this number or another, or maybe all of them, in a really irritating parody of Sarah Vaughn's style. Maybe not aimed at Sarah but at the general style.
