How does level adjustment actually work? Does Malack have 8 more HD, or any other benefits, or is it only a balancing thing, so you get less experience, since you have all those freebies?

I just realized another extra obstacle for the Order - not only have the lost Durkon and kind of lost V, but they just disabled the traps for the possible gate, while the LG's rogue was banished. Kind of a crappy place to be defending now.

I think every caster has his spell 'color' (Durkon had white, V has pink, ZZ'dtri green, etc.). It's just that Malack's is black.

There's so many things going on, that I hope the regular schedule will last a while - Tarquin coming back, Durkon coming to terms with being a vampire, race to the last gate, the gate here, Belkar, Nale vs Order. Also I guess the current fight, but it seems the elemental will be gone soon enough.

How do wands work compared to staves, anyway? Also if one of them (unlikely, but I just want to learn the mechanics) had say Great Teleport, would V be able to cast it? If so, what determines it - his spell level, spellcraft, use magic device?

Well it was supposed to take 7 weeks from the beginning of the book, but I have no idea how much time passed. (at least two weeks, according to Durkon, when they found the Draketooth family).
