HOLYFLAMINGCRAP posted:I asked in the recommendation thread and though I got some good recommendations I already had most of them. Basically I'm looking for something like post-rock with a folk twinge. Ive been listening to the new Agalloch EP "The White" a lot which is basically acoustic folky stuff with some post rock and ambient stuff thrown in and I'm really loving it. Thanks! Yndi Halda in a flash. JohnnyTwentyThree as well, perhaps.

Red Sparowes at Corporation, in Sheffield, were outstanding on Saturday night. They played what I think was every track off the new digital EP, and a good mix of first and second album. Can't wait for the new album now, they've changed a little in sound but they're still the Sparowes.

Going to see Explosions in Sheffield, and trying to scrape the cash together to go to 10 Years of ATP to see them again in December. And Caspian are playing in Peterborough end of September, trying to work out how I get 100 miles east on goodwill and favours. Such a good year, this.

Pelican updated on facebook to link to this. I am honestly excited about this album, it cannot come soon enough.

Well they do have the guitarist from Sunn O))) playing with them, so I went in expecting a lot more drone than previous releases. For the record, I really enjoy the new album and have had it playing at least once a night since I got it.

Yucca Flats, 22nd nuclear test - that's about all I can ever make out. I scanned google and wikipedia for a bit to pin down which tests (and perhaps the video), but nothing so far. I'm surprised by this, given how hyperbolic his monologue is ("Today before first light, when the m-- life of man is supposed traditionally to ebb lowest..."). "And here comes the soundwave!" is an awesome sample lead-in. EDIT my theory is that it's Walter Cronkite. Can't confirm that, though. Interviews with Red Sparowes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBOLfmzQ_6Y) and Russian Circles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSHKsGzl2Ow) at F3F last week. Some interesting topics and a few scraps of information - prospective March 2010 release for the new Sparowes album

I am genuinely excited for the new Red Sparowes release - the mix teaser is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UA9GwejwkE I hope they pull some more dates in the UK for a tour, they were phenomenal when I last saw them play, in Sheffield.

thehustler posted:Agreeing with both of these points, I saw them up in Preston, and yes the resemblence is quite good. They played Academy 2 in Newcastle maybe two weeks ago, and I was surprised they didn't draw a bigger crowd since they've played here before. They're still thunderous when they play, and the new songs sound good too.

Jan posted:Do Make Say Think, Tortoise and Caspian are also real ambient and will put you to sleep instantly. Also putting forward Lights At Sea, Signal Hill, This Will Destroy You and The Six Parts Seven as potential mellower artists you might like. My friend and I actually fell asleep at 10 Years of ATP in December, listening to the 2am Tortoise set. I also can't find Albinobeach's EP online to buy anywhere, for love nor money. It looks like their record label, Forgotten Empires, just flat don't sell it any more . Souldark fucked around with this message at 11:51 on Apr 23, 2010 |

Tortoise are very relaxing, but Stars of the Lid take the prize for music you can actually lull yourself to sleep with. E: well, what I remember of them was pretty good, but I do think it was an error placing their slot so late on... Souldark fucked around with this message at 16:35 on Apr 23, 2010 |

It sounds like a Foals track for the first third, but I usually view tracks that are sub-2 minutes as a fill between lengthier tracks, especially when EITS usually pump out averages of 8 minutes. So I'm not taking it as indicative of the rest of the album, although I'm hearing some new stuff in the last third that I'm liking.

A friend linked me this http://emmaruthrundle.bandcamp.com/album/electric-guitar-1 quote:During the Red Sparowes EU tour last fall (2010) I spent a lot of time in the back seat of the van looking out the window and playing a little travel sized electric guitar. I recorded several meditative ambient improvisations which became one continuous piece of music about 30 min long. Think DeadMan soundtrack - textures, drones and melodies that break through, repeat and fade back into the drone. Its an instrumental guitar work, somewhat improvised and recorded in a moving van over the course of 6 weeks. For fans of Earth, Grouper, Bohren etc. and of course fans of Red Sparowes and the Nocturnes. Bryant Clifford Meyer was kind enough to help mix the thing when we got back home and now it is ready to be released.
