Trip report: 65daysofstatic/Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies/Tired Irie/Palmstruck, Manchester Academy 2, Wednesday 7th November.

The 5th time I've seen 65daysofstatic, and the move from the smaller room upstairs to the bigger room downstairs didn't bother them one bit.

Palmstruck were pretty cool, their guitarist had a Steve Vai theme going on, and he had the skills to back it up. Definitely recommend you give it a go. http://www.palmstruck.com/

Tired Irie are a name I've heard for ages now. Bandied about with the current UK indie scene, and friends of everyone from YMSS to Edmund Fitzgerald (RIP) and countless others. This was the first time I'd ever seen them before, or heard them at all, and it was pretty good. They had a disco-math rock theme going on. Definitely one to look out for soon. http://www.myspace.com/tiredirie

YMSS didn't disappoint, as usual. Andrew, their singer, recognised me from their gig a few weeks ago at the Night and Day cafe, and came over to say hello, which was nice of him. I finally got myself a tshirt after telling him I'd been putting it off for years. The best bit is that they are finally releasing an album early next year. About loving time...

65 were so awesome that my body aches from dancing so loving much. It was hands down the best gig of theirs I've been to, and I managed to get myself a set list to go with the drumstick I got from the last Manchester gig earlier this year. They turned some of the songs, Radio Protector in particular, into huge, hulking, drum and bass masterpieces. This culminated in members of all of the other bands from the evening getting on stage and dancing around. Then stage diving. Lots. Graham from YMSS nearly kicked me in the face.

I did get some pictures, but they're pretty boring, so I won't bother.

Tusk: You should check out some post-metal. Isis. Mouth of the Architect. Pelican. It sounds like you need some heavier stuff.

Where can this be downloaded (legally)? I can't seem to find it anywhere, not even on archive.org, which has tons of GY!BE shows. I'd really love to hear it.

Seconding this request.

Incidentally, I have a folder called GY!BE live which is made up of songs from archive.org

Basically what I did was go through each GY!BE song and download various versions from every gig on there, and find the best version of each, based on various criteria. Minimum audience noise, maximum volume, number of instruments able to be picked out when you listen, etc etc.

Then I just encoded the FLACs to -V0 and bunged them on the old iPod for my journeys to work.

It's a really awesome collection, I suggest you all get some live tracks. Sometimes they're different from the CDs, sometimes they're better :)

Check out the lineup! It's awesome and it's nowhere NEAR complete.

Some non-post rock bands on there too who I'm really looking forward to, namely Trail of Dead.

We've managed to get 65daysofstatic to headline a media and arts event, The Van der Waals Attraction.
65daysofstatic will be playing, along with These Monsters and a load of art and video showcases. Best of all, it's only £6!

Tickets are here. I hope this doesn't seem too much like an advert. I am helping promote it, but I figured some guys might be interested if you live in the UK. We don't often get good post-rock gigs up north, and 65dos are my favourite band by far.

They have a new remix up too, on Calvinballs Myspace

Oh, you're involved in that?

I'm very tempted to go, I love both 65dos (obviously) and These Monsters.

No, it's really not. Shame, really.

I will try and sort something out. I'm in Blackpool so it's not exactly local, though. I do have a friend who has parents in Milnthorpe so maybe we can crash there if he comes with me.

http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=batch_download&batch_id=dVlwSXR3Mm01R05MWEE9PQ <- awesome beyond belief. The bit where it all goes quiet apart from the drums is where there was a power failure and the drums just kept on going in complete darkness.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S8ZW44X2 <- Recording of entire Leeds Cockpit gig, not the best quality but still ok.
